I would like to know why I have been called an asshole, As I know all about playing all types of organs for over 50 years. And I do not wish to be insulted. So please keepm those kind of remarks to yourself
Hello, I am from Germany and I play organ too. Now I try also this masterpiece. This video is in my opinion the best interpretation of this piece here on youtube. Congratulations!
Yes a little fast but it is probably a rather larger room with lively accoustics? Console placement is probably less than perfect so... Thanks for the "personality" in your playing, Bravo!
What an interesting take on the Stanley trumpet, lovely organ, great contrasts and imaginative performance/improvisation. Some great ideas I might try something with the edition I have (in D major)
@Contratrombone64 Thanks :) This is a Tamburini Organ of San Giovanni Bosco Bologna (Italy) Is a very big organ 5 manuals 110 real stop and 13,500 Pipes
I think his Phrasing is fine. I like that hes playing it staccato and not legato. This pieces would sound a mush if he played it anymore legato. It needs the space. However i do agree that its a little rushed.
@Jackx598 two or three keyboards are quite common. Organs with four keyboards are more rare, but can be found occasionally. This is however the first time ever I've seen a organ with five keyboards.
Try searching YouTube for Olivier Latry and Notre Dame Paris. The organ there is a massive 5 manual instrument, so is the one at St Sulpice in Paris. These are magnificent instruments, and their organists some of the finest in the world.
I agree, the organist is an excellent technician, however I prefer a "natural" instrument (as opposed to electric.) Just a "little" slower with more phrasing (it felt a little "rushed,") in other words, ditto to some comments. :)
What's with the complaint? The sound is produced by air moving through pipes. Whether the air is released by electrical and pneumatic apparatus or by finger pressure alone, the sound of the pipes is ultimately what you hear. And in this case, that sound is incredible!
The instrument has some truly great voices. In my humble opinion, the organist is a good technician but needs a bit of polish. I don't hear any soul transmitted to his fingers. The "blow-them-away" playing will, itself, be gone when he matures.
Every musical piece has its own speed, in order to be audible, as the composer wants. Furthermore when the piece is played in such a big organ inside a resonant building! Every organist has to respect the audience and of course the musical piece. I agree with ncguy207. The organist is very good and talented! I think he can play it slower in order to be perfect! :)
i do not think restraining music to a fixed speed is a good thing. This interpretation is a new kind to interpretate this piece. I think he would be able to play slower if he wanted to....
Yeah, its gonna, I think this organ in this vid, is somewhere around a 220 rank, and probably more than 5,000 pipes. Not only is it a huge organ, only the largest of catherdrals have them, or orchestra halls
i don't know... but i guess there's no arrangement for especially this ;) , get the tune and create the best possible arrangement for you organ by yourself?! :)
For the original Stanley version, just search for a book of theStanley Voluntaries for Organ.
This is different though. There's a whole extra section in the middle, he's playing the left hand like a continuo part, with the bass in the pedals, and the registration is totally unauthentic. Stanley never wrote pedal parts.
You know, I even knew that, yet I put down what I did above instead... I've played that song 1000's (seems like) of times on 3 different instruments. Maybe the repetition is making me lose it...haha
Unless I'm very much mistaken, this is not the original Allegro written by Stanley, as that did not include pedals: none of his organ voluntaries did. Is it an improvisation?
There aren't such thick chords in mine, or one of the flourishes that he puts in. All of 51 to 108 is extra, are the chords subsequently. I have two lines. Of music, and 1.22 or so is almost all extra.
Dear Luca, Your playing fascinates me with its peppiness and the utter ease with which your fingers (and feet) fly the keyboards. These organs you are playing seem not or be trackers (or am I wrong?) but the action is quick, as is your playing. How is this possible? To my somewhat naive ears, this does sound like a high pressure theatre organ of the 1920s, an impression augmented by the booming drums of Rule Britannia Grendiers and God Save the Queen. Can you refine what my ears tell me?
hi,just fascinated with the organ you're playing..is this commercially available or commissioned for assembly, i played the out in the market 2-staves like Yamaha,Kawai and Hammond, but this is amazing. thanks for the post.
as we say in French - comme en se jouant -of a so massive instrument obeying at your fingers and feet like a giant to children or a dragon to an angel would be more appropriate
What a tremendous exposition of this piece! Played with verve and precision, so that a massive instrument is shown capable of handling sprightly pieces without wrecking them.
its one of my favourite pieces and I recorded myself playing the organ part once just so i could play a Bb Trumpet part with it - was quite odd accompnying myself! haha
Yeah. On B-flat, though? That puts you in the lovely key of E major... not really a lovely key on the trumpet. I've performed this on C trumpet and D trumpet, and I actually like C trumpet better. I know some people who play it on A piccolo, which I guess works too.
Where can i have a stop list of this organ"?
