This song is like a pill that encapsules your perception in the moment, draining your mind of the shrouds that hinderd you to truly pursue your self-fulfillment...
And it suddenly all comes down to one question...
Are you going to get BUSY AND CHANGE your life?
Periode.
....now stop reading these lines like they'd give you salvation.
17 million people. This is got to be the fifth biggest economy in the world and nobody knows each other. I read about this guy who gets on the MTA here, dies.
"Hey Max, a guy gets on the MTA here in LA and dies, Do you think anyone will notice ?!" That's one of my all time favourite lines in movies , EVER. I sure as hell don't wanna be "that guy
@MarioTransformer7001 It is at the end, when Vincent asks Max about the dead man in the metro (I don't wanna give away spoilers, if you saw this movie you know what I'm talking about if not... well.. see it!)
@MarioTransformer7001 Guess what, I have ears aswell...... does that make me gay? Cuz if you can't hear this soundtrack in the movie, you don't have ears
I watched this movie in 2004 and I was too young to understand many of the ideas in the story. Now I'm sixteen, and I am able to find the meaning in Maxx and Vincent's conversations about life and being a realist. This is truly a masterpiece!
For all those of you who have written that you wished you had seen this movie at the theater, I can tell you that I liked it so much that I went back on four consecutive days and paid $8.60 to watch in on the big screen and then I went to store and bought the $20.00 "directors cut" special version in DVD and I have watched it about 40 or 50 more times... One of my very favorite movies of all time ! Miles Cobbett
@Merlin851526 Absolutely. I usually hate Tom Cruise and always find myself wishing he was someone else in the movies he's in (personal preference of course...) but in this he was incredible.
This song basically captures the esscence of America's collapsed, bankrupt economy and culture. Even the seemingly misconstructed, chaotic dialogue is more like a definitive philosophy for the road America's self-destruction:
@betatalk357 "Look in the mirror. Paper towels, clean cab, limo company some day. Some day, some day, my dream will come? One night, you'll wake up and you'll discover it never happened. It's all turned around on you. And it never will. Suddenly, you are OLD. Didn't happen. And it never will, because you were never going to do it any way. You push it into memory, then zone out on your Barcalounger, being hypnotized by daytime tv for the rest of your life."
"Don't you talk to me about murder. And all it ever would've took was a down payment on a Lincoln Town Car. Or that girl. You can't even call that girl. What the fuck are you still doing, driving a cab?"
And the only thing we have to say for ourselves is: "Because I never straightened up and looked at it. You know? Myself. I should have. I tried to gamble my way out from under, but that was just a born to lose deal."
Or, if we're to make a comeback, follow Max's philosophy: "But do you know what? New news. It doesn't matter any way. What does it matter any way? We're all insignificant out here, in this big ass nowhere. That's the one thing I gotta thank you for bro, because until now, I never looked at it that way. 'What does it matter?' It don't; so fuck it. Fix it. What do we got to lose any way, right?"
I'll never forget when this film ended, and I stood up to leave, but this amazing piece of music was still playing. I sat back down until it ended. Great music, and a great film.
Yeah, it's a real masterpiece. It makes you think about so many things that no one has ever noticed in their rushed meaningless lives. Absolutely amazing, absolutely impressing. A piece of art.
@lusiplushy94 I know exactly what you mean. I felt like there was an EXTREMELY poignant feeling in the air after watching this movie because it shows a man who puts no value on life whatsoever and shows how dissociated we are from eachother and our feelings, and in a weird way makes you see the beauty of life and how important every moment is. True accomplishment from Michael Mann here.
@futureboyzi i noticed that part of the scene.i think it was a little mistake of the movie. But just a little.the movie itself it's a unique and dramatic and all the intense and action moments that rarely you see in movies.Perfect.
this movie is more that terrific, it's one of my fav, as I have seen this movie countless times I noticed one misstake in the movie, it's when Vincent is chasing whem in the metro station he stops at one scene thinking where to go (downstairs or stay at 1st floor) and he decides not to go downstairs (but Max and his girl went downstairs), did someone notice that as well?
@futureboyzi Hey mate, I noticed that and i figured that they wnt deonstairs and came up the other side of the station to try and fool him, that is why vincent jumps accross the tracks. I agree, in my opinion the best ever movie!!!
words can not express, just terrific , you can really feel how passionate Michael Mann is when it comes to create a movie, he knows what to do to get you astonished !!! I've seen it many times and can't get enough
I agree gunraid60. Not a hole anywhere in the movie. I remember when I first saw it. My GF bought the DVD to my house and she was so amped up about the movie. She NEVER gets amped about movies. I kept fooling around and not really watching it and after finally paying attention to it on the third viewing I was HOOKED. Easily Tom Cruise's best. Just like someone else wrote I wish I had seen this in a theater.
wow, this is the most amazing movie of all fuc**g time, I can't find any movie to compare this one, amazing job of all team who made this movie so terrific, Micheal Mann is my fav director for sure and this flick as I know is the best work of Mann, words can not express this movie..
Fave film for 6 years, probably always will be. Wish i went to see it at the cinema and got the big screen experience. The music captured the mood of the film perfectly, well done Antonio.
Commendable, through thematics and visual form that flows from that, bookend to 'Heat'; the relationship between the two principles plays on this, as does the flipped-bookend nature of the two films' openings and endings. Symmetrical, complementary -- Cruise arrives by plane dies by train, DeNiro arrives by train and...both dying in and because of the chiaroscuro tableau that Mann sets up as a visual expression of the internal.
I agree it's a great film, with Cruises best performance since Magnolia, but, I feel that the nightclub scene was a bit unrealistic. Theres gunfire going off and everyone is still dancing. Plus he had all the time in the world to shoot the dude, reload and shoot again while there are cops everywhere. But these are just little gripes. Overall it was beautiful to look at and smart enough to keep me enthrawled.
I find myself feeling so sorry for Vincent at the end, especially with this suitably haunting music. I enjoyed Cruise'S perfomance in this. He looked the part of a hired killer. Well done that man!
God why couldnt this have been appreciated more?!..... I'm gonna track down Micheal Mann just to tell him theres nothing wrong on his part... shake his hand and whisper,.... "Hollywood's shallow".... I think he needs to hear that.... lol
@irishgotee This is defintely one of the most underrated movies of the decade. Michael Mann did great with this movie, but sadly dropped the ball with Miami Vice. Maybe because it was done in Florida and not California, lol.
i have watched the movie 10 times or more and in the end my eyes start crying by it self and every time when i watch the end it looks better than beffor
I always cry at the end of the movie when I hear this. I dunno why... possibly because such an amazing movie is ending. I would like to see what happens next. If Max and the girl manage to survive after the drug bosses find out that he only play Vincent to get the list and knew Felix in person. And I cry for Vincent, too. Even if he's a sociopath, he still has some good inside of him.
Too bad we never get to hear Antonio Pinto's Requiem on the soundtrack like we do in the movie. Same can be said about Tom Rothrock's LAX. If they can release a Special Limited Edition of the Runaway Train soundtrack, then they can definitely give this soundtrack the same treatment.
It just builds and builds and builds until it reaches an inevitable crescendo of desperate, powerful music and declines into a sorrowful, mournful decline. Much like the film itself.

Yes. Once again a Brazilian musician shows to the world how musical Brazilian people is. Thank you, Luke! :)

It just builds and builds and builds until it reaches an inevitable crescendo of desperate, powerful music and declines into a sorrowful, mournful decline. Much like the film itself.
