There was good music back then but don't feel bad because you think you missed something. To get up to the Sunset Strip and go to the clubs you needed to have money and if you were working at McDonalds part time and going to school it was very frustrating and having ance did not help much. By the time I had a chance to see music up in L.A. Glitter Glam David Bowie at Rodney's Club was the big thing which was fun.
In all seriousness.. Why can't today's pop music put out gem's like this! This is REAL pop music!!! My Generation sucks. I wish i could go back in the 60's!
@djbooda there was never a time when good music was always there. only the gems survived amongst wave after wave of shit which is why we get you kids saying "I WISH I COULD GO 2 DA 6ITIES"
For those of you who thought this sucked, and yeah, it's dated, let me give you a bit of a rundown. First off, if you have ever seen SAC live, you realize how badly the recordings were. They are great players. As for the band, Ed went on to play for Lenard Skynard and wrote and played what is one of the most recognizable licks ever. He wrote the music for Sweet Home Alabama. The flute player who you can't see is Steve Bartek who went on to play lead guitar for Oingo Boingo. I could go on...
@EvilSkeptic I didn't mention that Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins chose Mark Weitz to tour with him a couple of years ago. A fan of psychedelic music, and the SAC, and a guy who knows a good musician when he hears one. Billy Cargan had SAC do a cover of Mr. Farmer by the Seeds, as part of a project that he is doing. It's an amazing recording.
Not only does Ed's guitar change, but Randy is gone (he has some kind of appointment) in the final shot and George, who was playing the flute is now sitting where Randy was sitting, playing bongos and singing lead. All the changes happen at about 1:46. I think Ed changed guitars as a joke. And that's the movies for you!
@EvilSkeptic Another thing. At 1:46, the keyboard changes from a Vox Continental to a Farfisa Compact Combo, which was what they used to record their debut. But you can see the chrome Vox legs in the beginning, then you see the red fold down apron for the Farfisa.
My god this is terrible, this horrible turd of a song makes my ears bleed, people who consider this to be good music have a terrible taste in music. I could make better sounding music by taking a shit.

@Nusbeganikizinus i agree, this music does blow. But you have to understand that people have different taste in music. Some people like good music and others prefer shitty music like this. No need to insult them though. They enjoy living in the past, because their best years have passed them and its kind of nostalgic to listen to crappy 60s music i guess.
SAC was and is, a very good and important group. A form of psychedelic rock, more on the pop side, yet more psychedelic than The Lemon Pipers. Such a vital element to explore, for serious musicians or historians. Amazing that Ed would go on to work with Skynyrd, although he grew up in LA,, not FL.
@wherestheunity yip too true but the 60's is long gone and will never be repeated UNFORTUNATELY , so just give me a time machine and I would go back forever and ever and ever
@staypress Its not all gone. My parents were there but totally missed the point - they like Cliff Richard and Frank Sinatra. Identifying a few members is a bit confusing. Who is playing the flute? Who is playing the bass, Gunnels? In wikipedia it says that Lovetro, later Bunnel, played the bass? Is it Freeman on drums instead of rythm guitar? Is Lovetro or Bunnel there?
@ahniditab I think it might have been George Bunnell on flute, Lee Freeman on Drums, and Gary Lovetro on Bass, i can't really remember, i'll have to ask George Bunnell
I know that Steve Bartek (later the guitarist for Oingo Boingo) played the flute for SAC on the first two albums. However, that doesn't look like him in this clip.
I know that Steve Bartek (later the guitarist for Oingo Boingo) played the flute for SAC on the first two albums. However, that doesn't look like him in this clip.

It's really a shame how some really good bands were done in by one or two commercial songs played on AM radio during those days. The stigma in the success of bands right before FM radio began to rule the airwaves changed everything. Don't get me wrong. God bless FM. It sure fed my head when my brain was starving for ear candy. Great days.
No mention of the incredible Steve Bartek rocking on the flute on this one. SB is probably the most underrated guitarist in rock history. I am a lifetime musician and was never a big fan of Oingo Boingo until I saw them live. Steve Bartek is up there with Vai and Satriani in terms of virtuoso (if you scoff, just look at some of their live videos first), and incredible musician that can play, score and compose. And as a kid, could play flute on songs like this. He is also incredibly nice guy :-)
Lee Freeman died at 2:30 A.M on valentines day. He and his music will surely be missed. He was a great guitarist, singer, drummer and harmonica player!

@lovelyflares: I'm here in So Cal if you need a tenor vocalist who can do harmony as well. I'm 33 though, about to be 34. As the saying went in the '60s, you're not supposed to trust anyone over 30! LOL.
