  • i can honestly say chicago detroit well basically the whole midwest share alot of similarities.

  • thank God for youtube that can bring this to us... but also for the God given talent out there...there's not enough hours in a day to hear everything I'd love to hear. i don't get sundays off work soooooooooo.........take me to church!

  • @Josh78413...what makes this Chicago Style is this style was originated at the First Church of Deliverance in the 1930's when the Hammond Organ was first invented and the first Church to have a hammond organ was First Church of Deliverance in 1934..so this style came from there..the COGIC style and Jubilee style is the same style..just beat patterns are different

  • Alrite now Pastor.Thomas!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love it!

  • Sounds like sactified music there. Love it! I'm COGIC.

  • what makes this a "chicago" style?

  • Old school with New school...LOVE IT!!

  • What church just has 3 Hammond's lined up like that...geeeeeez

  • YES! Incredible music right here!

  • Goosebumps all over........respect & so more !

Thanks for being out there :)

  • This is one of my favorite clips. Chicago just can't be beat for their Gospel flavor.

  • If you can listen to this and not tap your toes or clap your hands, you must be clinically dead.

  • ...Pastor Eric, you do know the Great Manual; Swell Manual; Pedal-board, and the Chorale/Tremolo Switch, will have to cool off before touched again...

    Chicago is the place!

  • cool, you play very well.

  • @Pianoman42100 so if one mess up you'll have a back up lol..

  • Wow

  • i felt the lord all through that just made me wanna lift my hands and shout....

  • Wow...such feel. Seeing two people with such insane melodies jamming out like that always makes my day. THIS is what real music is about. Take it from a young metal/blues guitarist xD.

  • Oh my, Oh my, Oh myyyyyyyyyyyyyyy this is serious playin' here!! love it, will listen over and over again...

  • HALLELUJAH! MY GOD, WHAT SPIRIT FILLED PLAYIN'. Such a blessing to see a young man with interest in keeping this music alive. I used to listen to an old Chicago TV program called Jubilee Showcase on Sunday morning to hear this kind of music.

IF YOU CAN'T FEEL THIS MUSIC DOWN IN YOUR SOUL, THEN YOUR FEELER IS BROKE!!!

I can see while old school churches were still in session until 10pm with this kind of worship goin on.

MAY THE LORD BLESS YOU ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE !

  • Yall betta play that!

    Allll right!

Go head on! Don't hurt nothing.....take ya time....work it on out! Yes!

  • Could listen to this all day!!! Love it!

  • You guys are truly sounding good, you all are as "off the hook", excellent music.

  • OMG!!! PLAY PASTOR THOMAS!!! Whew! This just took me back to the days when he was over the young adult choir at Greater Harvest, playing over at Fellowship and Sunday night service that didn't let out until after 10 pm!

  • Dang...this cracker is impressed. Jumpin' !!!!!!!!

  • You play, thats what I call playing You Go!

  • Wheres the offering basket?

  • listen to that grind @ 2:26. Damb.

  • Pastor Thomas shows why Chicago is the place where to be to hear that gospel sound.

  • If you can sit still through this you are probably dead.

Hmmmm. There is a third Hammond in there. There is a Leslie cabinet there, too. I wonder if they ever do three at once.

  • Wow! It is amazing to see this clip. Could you imagine being a service with these two playing together, wow.

  • i feel a trot in this here library!!!!!

  • That song makes for really goooood "offering" walking music. It has a happy positive tone (and rhythm) about it.

  • Amazing this is so wonderful. I love this.

  • You know the hammond organ is one of the greatest intruments ever

it can be soft and gentle or it can scream like a fire alarm and i love it.

  • @Denvermorgan2000 If you thinkk, the Hammond can be used in EVERY Genre. Gospel, Blues, Rock, Jazz, Pop, and even Classical.

  • @RayManzarekGod Yes it one of the most versital instruments ever built.

  • @Denvermorgan2000 The original synthesizer!

  • watch my vidio of the dreams and visions i have seen of Chicago, i love you all in Jesus Christ Our Lord Fear NOT Said Jesus.

  • I've got a lot of organists that I love to here, but ET is definitely at the top of the list somewhere of favorites... Great man also! There's only 1 true ET!

    Eric Thomas...

  • this song here is a classic. i love to hear pastor t play it @ 1st church n da city. now, he got his protogie right next to him. wicked combo.

  • He's Whuppin that organ FO>>REAL

  • Gospel music is never static and unchanging. Many young people do something and think they made it up. Some older musicians been monsters on their instrument for years. The point is, younger musicians need the seasoning from QUALITY older musicians. Not just OLDER musicians. Just because you're old don't mean you know anything helpful. Anointed, seasoned ministers should train the younger.

  • dats wat i ment...more seasoned muscians....because they understand the swagger a lil better and know what role they play on the instrument...i totally agree and u put it great words

  • Train up A child n a way they should go...older cats r not doin this with younger musicsions now because younger guys r earning wrong.....this is how it should be..younger cats should b up under people who r more seasoned to get the skillz they need ... N this case it's dat ole time church feel...which most younger cats really need....love this video..playing like that will b passed down generation to generation....

  • alot of these younger cats are on a whole nother level than these older ones....gospel music changing

  • Good stuff! Why did the video have to end?

  • Awesome and anointed... i wanna be yal seriously!

  • very good sound !!!!!!!!

  • There is nuthin needed with this kinda playing! You dont even notice the fact that there are no drums playing!

  • This dude is the BADDEST on organ!!!!!! If pastor Eric Thomas opens up on dat organ ITS A WRAP!!!!!!!!!! There ain't gonna be anyone else singing or preaching, just a whole lot of running, shouting, crying, and repenting. This dude has mastered playing in the key of JESUS!!!!!!!!

  • See people, YOU DON"T NEED Robert Tilton and others to make a joyful noise to the Lord!!!

  • What about the Word of God...I thought the Preached Word was more important that music? If the music makes the church in and of itself then we live in sad times as it relates to the church and its divine message to the world.

  • Dear MethodistPreacher, What in the world are u talking about? The video clip is simply showcasing great talent in relation to playing gospel music on an organ,Chicago style.Who said music is more important than the Preached Word? This video clip has nothing 2 do with preaching.U might not b aware of this, but music can also b used as a tool 2 minister 2 others. Curious as 2 where u do your preaching and who ordained u,if in fact u r ordained.

  • Please sir, read the box at top right where the poster of this video said 'it is b/c of these two organists that this church is the most dynamic church in Chicago. My point is that the preached word be the reason why churches be dynamic not the music-relax, not meant to hurt or insult anyone-just adding my 2 cents...whew...btw, I am ordained and historically speaking, it is as legitimate as one can get-through a line of succession my ordination can be traced to the Apostle Paul...hand to hand.

  • Dear MethodistPreacher, I took your advice and re-read the video clip posters comment in the box at the top right. I was unable 2 find where the poster said 'it is b/c of these two organists that this church is the most dynamic church in Chicago'. However, i did notice at the end of your last comment u seem 2 favor the term 'hand to hand'. You might want 2 consider the term ' WORD for WORD'. hmmm?

Anyway, I truly admire and enjoyed these talented musicians.

  • it is there as you listen to them playing...the one who posts the song had it there...here it is...i copied and pasted: [If this performance doesn't make you want to "Shout" you had better check your pulse!! Mathew Jones and Elder Eric Thomas show why Greater Harvest is one of the most dynamic churches in Chicago.] Regarding using the term WORD over hand...you missed the point still. I mean actual hands for ordaining into the priesthood. A line of succession from Paul to ME.

  • A line of succession from Paul to ME .... Sure !!! mainly if YOU are in uppercase and Apostle Paul in lower case...... funny eh ?

  • Get a life! This is precisely why the Methodist church is closing in droves RIGHT now! Music Ministry IS word ministry! It is the word sung to music and has just as much place among the spoken word.... UUGGHH!!

  • I cannot speak for 'other' Methodist Churches, but where I pastor we are growing--with young people!! The music is 'off da chain' and we're expanding the youth ministry of my parish. However, my concern and focus as pastor is on the teaching and preaching ministry. Worship becomes more meaningful when we are informed more about the God we worship and why we worship. The preached Word is the zenith of the Worship Experience. Instead of being mean, try being nice before making rude comments

  • I love it! You all have made me get up and cut a step!!

  • Between about 1:35 and 1:37 they simultaneously did the same run! Too bad we can't see their feet working the petals. I need to catch my breath!

  • Cosmos! GREAT! :)

  • They're playing my soul happy. That sounds like COGIC style!!!!

  • Eric Thomas is one of the coldest B3 specialist in the Chi for y'all young bucks take notes and learn some real church music from him like I've done over the years.

  • I pastor COGIC in the pacific NorthWest and THIS is what I grew up on. Chicago style is what I patterned my own style after. I love it. The old folks called it "deliverance style"....great licks

  • 'Bout time! Finally, some sho'nuff Chicago playing. And by none else than the legandary Eric Thomas. The man is an institution @ Fellowship, First Deliverance, and now he is pastoring. We worry about harmony so much that we forget that the real saints feel the rhythm of the organ. Thats what we got here. Yalsah!
