I think squee is right... There is no way attacking a government website will make citizens under the protection of the government scared of that group...
In all wars the army with the larger resource will always wait out the enemy with less
Or disarm the enemy's greatest weapon, and right now that weapon is the inter-web
And yes The American government could had done something more productive,
i agree that mega upload was in the wrong. but i think that anonymous and people are just saying that the internet is a sort of free place. and you cant and shouldn't sensor it.
Glad this is working out, looking forward to some more of these. You had me worried that you were driving and doing this after seeing your video of driving in what I think was GTA. ( prehaps we can get some history lessons too. ;D
I understand your point of view. Under current law Megaupload was doing something illegal. However look at lobbyists. They pay money to introduce special interest bills and pass them into law which infringe upon people. So while I respect the law, I do not respect double standards like these. What are we to do when there is legal infringement occurring in our country? I have no idea since it has been happening for hundreds of years and no one stands up and says it's wrong.
@Ryu416 I agree it's not the best reaction, but what legal avenues do the common people have to stop people who are using the system to harm them? We can contact our representatives, we can not vote for people, but we can not actively rally against a law that is so clearly flawed and potentially harmful. I would never do anything drastic, but I feel powerless to stop things that I feel may stifle my voice, and infringe upon my own life.
@Ryu416 One final thought. SOPA and PIPA shouldn't even be the main concern of our country. It should be mending our economy and broken systems. It should be about restoring jobs and ending borderline illegal activity perpetrated by some of our own rich population which is hampering our economy. Lobbyists payed for this to be introduced and pushed to the front when there are people suffering at home. I may be wrong, but I feel this is irresponsible of our own government.
@Ryu416 While I agree with almost all of this, it was not that they broke the law, but that they broke the law in such a way that harm might come to innocent people. I also ask how what they did was any better than those legal avenues you suggested? Writing you official may or may not help much, but at least it does not hurt your cause or others. Finally, the internet blackout showed that there are legal AND effective ways to combat legislation.
@SpiffySquee True enough. I don't really condone what they did. But if that had failed and this was the response I might agree with them. I agree it can harm their case and in some cases regular people. But yeah I agree with you. What I wrote is just how I feel about the subject matter.
i have to agree with you on the whole "anonymous" thing. I can only see one small thing that might possibly hurt SOPA on this, that being that good hackers can weave their way through systems without any trace already, so theres no point in trying to fight it. I doubt the government will see this and i would have much preferred anonymous to keep their big mouths shut on this but nonetheless I do see what they were trying to do. i always look forward to these sessions squee.
You're welcome. : ) Always happy to encourage people to share their ideas and opinions, and for the record my internet handle is pronounced like the acronym N.A.T.O is (Natozs was based on that acronym) and then the zs is pronounced like the "zz" in buzz. Another way to look at it would be N as Noon, A as in ate, and tozs as in toes. slight difference in the ending sound but whatever works at that point.

What anonamous did was not a correct reaction, yet it did give a very clear sign of that people are not going to take this SOPA stuff. The reason why people support anonamous is because it gives them a sence of fighting back, it gives a sence of standing up to the goverment and saying No Sir we will not take your SOPA and PIPA. I personely believe the bill wont ever pass because it is simply not realistic. So everyone should worry so much about this, because something as stupid as this wont pass
What you meant by "Good" I think could be described more as "Appropiate". Still not 100% the same meaning, but I think that word would do the job ;)
I haven't watched your recent LPs, mostly because of time restrictions. I'm waiting for a holiday to happen so I can immerse myself in a Squee-a-thon, but you do make a good point. Of course I don't know the context, but I think you're right.
@masterplusmargarita By this, I mean that, apart from the factor's you've explored, a good story/film/book CAN'T be objective. I think Twilight's story was creepy, strange, and even morally suspect. My older sister thinks it was an OK story were the romance came across as slightly cheesy. The reason I often disagree with the way English is taught in schools is because the basis is that a text can be objectively good or bad. It all depends on the point of view.
Another important thing to note is "Whatever floats your boat." As with all things, good writing and bad writing is very much a subjective matter, and if you don't like it you don't like it.
I personally couldn't care less for vampires as the concept never appealed to me, but that doesn't mean that Buffy the vampire slayer is a bad show - it's just not my cup of tea.
The amount of civility you possess is impressive Squee, I'm glad I found someone as openminded as you here on the internet.
