Ummm, you should mention that you're measuring "the same stuff" as the air around the balloon; obviously if you used helium to fill the balloon, the balloon would weigh less after inflation! Keep making videos; kids relate much better to demonstrations than textbooks!
@MapleOryDude the water vapour inside the can gets cooled back in to water wich takes up less space as he says, and the pressure inside the can becomes lower than the pressure outside it
The explanation on how planes work is WRONG, planes can also fly upside down. Unfortunatly it is not simple to explain how planes fly, you need vortices and vector calculus :)
The explanation is CORRECT. Do you dispute the Bernoulli effect? It is just not a comprehensive explanation of every detail of what makes a plane fly nor was that the intention of the video.
Of course Bernoulli was right. It is known that this explanation of 'Bernoulli causes lift because of the difference in velocities of air around a wing' is wrong, and, as you said, it is an oversimplification of the problem. It is explained with the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations.
When blowing a balloon up by mouth could the condensation from the lungs give a false reading of the mass of the air?
Nice clip was fun. Since I started flying I have become completely fascinated by air. I wish to build an aircraft and I will be experimenting with drag and airfoils in water.
Your right but doesn't air have a certain concentration of water vapor anyways? Different air levels will have different readings because of the density of air and the temperature will change the SVC level making the SVC and AVC closer or further apart.
This experiment was to simply prove that air has mass. I did not intend to show an absolute value of mass. It would vary based on the mix of gases one happens to capture.
Thanks for the compliment. I don't believe I called it oxygen, I just said "air" on purpose as this video was made for middle school students with learning disabilities. If we were to argue the point we would need to say that the balloon was mostly filled with nitrogen, a little carbon dioxide and some unabsorbed oxygen. Aloha
air pressure is surly cool !!

Yeah, planes can fly upside down but you still have to change the wing shape to get the necessary lift.

Correct, the vacuum pump removes air from the chamber. Crack the glass and it'll implode upon itself all caused by the surrounding air pressure.
atemme 3 years ago
@atemme Does this mean that if you hit a democrat on the head his noggin could implode?
supressorgrid 1 year ago
There is a vacuum in that glass. No air pressure. Tell me what happens if you crack the glass.

Physics was never so much fun when I wuz at school.
However, perhaps your video can help the people that keep asking why the water doesn't fall out on the "Romaurie Effect".
