What's really sad is that Raul Julia was supposed to play Bucho and was cast to play him but he died before he could finish the film. It's sad because he was truly a great actor and he would've been awesome as hell in Desperado. One of my favorite movie trilogies, El Mariachi is a badass!

I used to go to that church that comes out in Desperado as a little boy with my grandma in Cuidad Acuna, Mexico. The mural of Christ in the boat with the disciples is still there to this day.

the 1st is El Mariachi. And it is done in spanish. Antonio isnt in it. He is in the 2nd one which is Desperado. and then he is the 3rd Once upon a time in Mexico.

actually desperado is a remake of El Mariachi.... Rodriguez rewrote the script and remade the film with more equipement and new actors.

I misunderstood this post because you left out the "not". Sorry if I was overly hoistile, but I think an artist (painter, sculptor, writer, filmmaker) should be judged on what's IN the artwork, not the press about it. To me doing "research" on a film begins and ends with watching the film itself.

the whole trilogy is about el mariachi regardless of which actor played him, the actors are just players in the directors stories. shame you didn't see the first one before the others followed, rodriguez what a guy with great imagination, have you seen his home studio where he does all the music

It retells parts of the story in El Mariachi, because most people weren't going to watch a shot-on-16mm film with bad special effects and bad sound, but it leads to a place way past the end of El Mariachi. Desperado begins with the Mariachi on the trail of his lover's killer, this murder happens BEFORE the movie starts! It happens on screen in El Mariachi. Watch the films, please.
