Wow, amazing informative video!!! I just came across this while looking for valve jr mods, veiwed it, ran upstairs to take apart the VJ! Mod works great and for free it can't be beat, took less than 10 minutes to pull it apart, do the mod and reassemble. My amp really came to life and running through a vintage 70's g12-80 celestion 1x12 open back it really has a british feel to it now instead of the muddy, blanketed sound it had before.A+++!!!! 5***** for sure.
i have the third version of the combo the one with the black board instead of green. i did the mod and it works, open and really brighten the sound. on the combo the main reason of the dark sound is the eminence speaker that sucks.
I did the JP1 mod RIGHT after this video, I never thought it would make that much improvement, amazingly simple...awesome! Great great video and directions! I hope to see some more mods of the VJ from you.
Should have done a before and after sound demo to illustrate the difference.
Thanks for the vid, but I think I'll pass on snipping any wires and voiding the warranty for 2 extra flakes of treble. I have a better mod that doesn't require and tools:
I cut the jp1 jumper wire put the amp back together pluged it back in.But I now have no sound at all!!!!.great!!!.so I took it all apart again made sure I had cut the right one ,yes I did cut jp1 jumper wire.
So I put the wire back together and the sound came back.Maybe the newer combo model is wired another way?.anyhow my valve junior combo sounded great before.I think you should warn people of this.
Excellent bud, mines been dust collecting for last year, set it up today, tried celestion in vj cab, fizzier n iron-bru,stuck lady luck back in n cut jp1,amazin difference, volume at 3/4 now gives convincing Highway to Hell tone, wind guitar volume back an u get excellent U Shook Me tone,vj vol at 11 o clock gets decent paradise city intro, good work bud.
Nice, thanks for the 1st of many VJ mods to come Gabi. I hear the dryer going in the background there lol. I really want to mod the hell out of mine. Have you seen or tried the Palomino V32H heads? Now discontinued but man those heads and cabs are amazing boutiques. Bought the last one off MF luckily. It would be interesting to know some good mods for that.
will this mod effect the longevity of my head? and short circuit problem or fried wires i should be aware of?

I did this mod and HATED it. It sounds very tinny with single coil pickups and sounds like the Presence control is all the way up.

Switch will work excellent. But once you hear the difference you will not want to go back anymore -

Hello, i'm thinking on a mod to this mod.
You could solder two cables to both sides of jp1once it's cut.
Then put a switch on the other side of cables, and make a hole to front, to put this switch over it.
Then you have a With/Without JP-1 mod, and you can change between them. You have your original VJ and your JP1-mod one on the same.
I wouldn't do a permanent mod as this to my amp, or at least, i would put that switch for having the two options in an easy manner.
( sorry for my bad english )

Yes - that speaker on the combo is a joke. This thing needs a decent 1x12 to sound as it should.

cool man ! love the simplicity of it !

Thanks for the great video, but a quick question; Can you do this mod to a Valve Junior combo?
SuperKnox 3 years ago
Probably not - it is a different version of the board.

Saw the interest in the Palominos but never check their potential out. There must be something about them too. Heck ANYTHING with tubes sound decent!
SoundGarageTales 3 years ago
Thank you! Yes, definitely, that's a major one. But first I want to show how much of these mods can affect the tone.
SoundGarageTales 3 years ago
Cool thanks for the awesome video! Are you planning to do more Valve Junior mods in the future? If so, I can't wait!
