My wife had insurance coverage denied for MRI scans of her breast after the doctor found masses in both breasts. Blue Shield does not cover this. Even though her mother had died from breast cancer. We petitioned the insurance company, we spoke to the medical director - all denied. We even sent them copies of the NEJM article on the effectivendess of MRI scans for breast cancer - no luck. Don't give false hope on insurance coverage, only Public outcry can change the insurance policy.
