  • I want this video on my Pulse Mini unit.

  • I think the latest Hornby 08/09 shunters are excellent. Sound is superb.

  • Small but it is very cool!

  • I like the 08's sound effects! Also like the concrete floor effect - I've got a similiar sort of effect on my layout, only I've used balsa and fine sandpaper, but it seems to have worked quite well.

  • @Railenthusiast1967

The concrete would probably have been much easier to do using your method. :)

  • Nice! I wish these sound modules were available when I used to dabble in model railways.

  • nice how much did it cost

  • @emochiken99

Can't remember exactly, but think the SWD decoder was about £90.

  • hi how did you make or were did you get your track fillers from

    thanks

  • Excellent shunting. Whats the key to getting slow speeds without breaking the bank?

  • Clean track and wheels

  • use a transformer with the momentum function, you can lower it slowly and use a brake, they only cost baout 60 bucks

  • Neato!

Needs an exhaust pipe now :D

  • I like how you've created a works yard. What materials did you use to submerge the rails in? I was going to try polyfiller or something, but opted for fine ballast. Your looks much better though :)

  • heyy!!!! brill 08 shunter sound!

where did u get the concrete floor that goes over the track?

  • See a previous question/answer. I used regular household wall filler.

  • o yer its a really good affect

  • @andersley is it more effective then using card?

  • @branchlinedisaster - I have also used card, also works well

  • Great Shunter. Cool Video. Awesome sound of the shunter thrashing. 5 stars.

  • wow nice custom paint job, you got some nice clean lines there. 5*

  • Thank you!

  • wow did u put knuckle couplers on it?

  • yes, the Kadees just plug into the NEM socket

  • o nice, where did u get it, and do u know where i can get these european style trains if i live in US?

  • It is a stock item by Bachmann here (except I did the custom paint job), but not sure where you can get them in the US. A search should find stockists of European models, or you can order direct from the UK sealers, or on ebay.

  • ok thanks

  • getting pullman shunter soon

  • No way a class 08 horn sounds like that

  • Yeah, if I remember correctly they sound more like a steam engine whistle!

  • Well Done!

  • chbitter, Galisoneh, GoldRushDuch, thanks for the comments. :)

  • That looks so realistic! Good job!

  • Cool layout. 5 stars

  • where did you get the concrete from between the track?

  • The 'concrete' was Pollyfiller. ;)

  • what is that and where do u get it?

  • It is a regular household filler for cracks in walls, etc. From any DIY store.

  • like squirty stuff? or not

  • It is a powder which you mix with water.

  • how do u make it so smooth?

  • just smooth it with a scraper whilst it is still wet. styrene sheet does the job.

  • y has it got old cuplings on it

  • I sold this loco some time ago. It had Kadee couplers.

  • Nice video. Did you fit the decoder yourself? This loco is not DCC ready, I do not think but should be the same as soldering a normal chip to a non-dcc loco.

  • The loco is dcc ready, but there was not room for the plug, chip and speaker, so I cut off the plug, removed the socket and soldered the wires direct to the motor leads. The chip went where the socket was, and the speaker behind the radiator grille. Holes were drilled in the inner plate to allow better sound.

  • Is it the Bachmann offering? When I was looking at the box on eBay, there was not a DCC Ready logo.

  • No, it is the Hornby one. Better than the Bachmann. :)

  • Hornby only do the 09 in this livery, have you added transfers or is this a completely repainted body? Bachmann made this loco in this livery but it wasn't DCC ready.

  • This is completely repainted. The loco is actually for sale now, as I am building an HO scale Slovenian layout!

  • Where are you selling it?

  • where are you selling it?

    have you sold it?

    i want it!!!

  • nice video is it dcc sound?

  • Yes, it has a South West Digital sound chip, with a speaker just behind the radiator grille.

  • thats a brilliant sounding model there, wish mine had that!! layout looks wicked too.. keep up the good work!

  • I cant wait to get sound in my locos.

  • It's looking good so far Alan, sounds great too!
