Current iPhone 4 Cases Won't Work with the Verizon iPhone 4?

when i buy a cheap case on the go if mine breaks (has happened 3 times) and i run to the drug store to buy a cheap $5 case the only thing i notice is that the volume lock key is a little out of place. i can still receive calls and surf the web, no issues. i have a verizon version btw

Or they could make a universal case, all they have to do is make the openings bigger so that it works for both. All you will have to deal with is a centimeter gap at the top for the Verizon i-Phone and a centimeter gap at the bottom for the AT&T i-Phone... problem solved.

I bought an AT&T version of the otterbox defender. There is a SLIGHT, and I mean VERY slight overlap of the case on the silent button. It still works just fine. That is the only difference I have found.  My volume buttons fit perfectly.

pretty cool. im happy verizon is having iphone. i dont know what the big chaos was about. if anyone wanted an iphone all they had to do is switch companies or unlock the iphone, plus im pretty sure you can get mobile hotspot on an iphone if its jailbroken and you have the hacked app.

This video is not a 100% accurate, Not ALL of the cases for the iphone 4 won't, because it's the not the volume rocker that is lowered, its the vibrate/loud switch. Cases such as the incase sliders and snap ons that have open ports to all the switches and everything should work just fine. But mostly all bumpers won't work anymore.

It sounds like the real problem is left on the case companies. I will just have to buy one that says that it will work! This is NOT a big deal at all. Though, if this is the biggest problem that you have to worry about right now, then I would say that you don't have a very complicated life.

I have a Speck fitted case for my at&t phone, and there is just a large opening for the 3 buttons. It looks like this case would work fine for the Verizon phone given the buttons are a probably in the same general area, but no way to know without actually trying. I'm sure there are plenty of other cases out there with similar shape that could work for either phone. Bonus for them.

Cryptonate no one not even Verizon tells Apple what to do. So the antenna redesign was all Apple. Also there are 4 lines on metal band as there are 2 antennas for CDMA. Apple was not going to have antennagate 2! That was the first time I have seen that picture Larry! Great video!

Did you really think that Verizon would have let Apple keep the iphone4 the same? It's all about money! However, on the other hand:

1) I've heard rumors that the iPhone 5 will be released NEXT January. If this is true, no new iPhone cases this summer.

2) If they're trying to fix the antenna issue, I'm sure they'll switch over to the new model for ATT as well. If I was making cases, I'd cut off ALL ATT version production right now, as the switch is imminent.

Though I agree that this is still a pain, especially for new iPhone case companies, who now will have these Verizon cases to produce.

So here's my take...it's better for manufacturers and consumers that the verizon iPhone keep the same volume and sleep/wake button alignment because the case quality will be much better! How many people remember when the iphone 4 first came out in June and the cases weren't fitting right, etc.? Manufacturers are continuing to learn and are now generating some really good cases. With the new design, they have to start from square one again thus will result in some ill-fitting cases for verizon.

Great video Larry - it really will be a nightmare. I would guess Case manufacturers will try to update their most popular line of cases to fit the VZW iPhone - however from now on it would be smart to create cases with open cutouts, which will fit both phones.

I think most manufacturers are going to make cases that work with both. Not cases that work with one or the other. I think cases that are made with the cutouts will just have larger cutouts and the cases that have the softer rubber materials over the buttons will have a not as nice look to them. This would save the companies a lot of money in the manufacturing and I think most consumers wouldn't care or maybe even notice.

I beg to differ. Manufacturers are happy about this. Different phone = more money. As for users, unless you have both versions, why would you need both to be the same? And when you go to the store to buy a case, just look if it says att another Verizon. I buy my cases at the Apple store, and they will be able to tell the difference

When a new iPhone comes out, manufacturers can charge more for their case, product, etc. Just look at when the iPhone 4 came out in June, or when the iPad came out in April. Almost all cases were super expensive. Now, while there are still many that are expensive, there are many that can be found cheap. If the phone were the same as the ATT version, people could find older cases that have gone down in price.

Honestly I never needed to use the Internet while of the phone. And when using my 3G into WiFi app on my Droid 2 I can still answer the phone. Even if you couldn't is it that hard to simply wait a few minutes to talk to the person and then go on the Internet, I mean maybe I'm old fashion, but patience is a pretty easy thing to have.
