I have a 7 yo that we are going hiking and camping in the spring.. we live in MIchigain looking for a pack and a bag also a pack where would i start looking with breaking my bank?????

I am a side sleeper, and when your a side sleeper you do split your one knee to sit over and support you, hence side sleepers are pretty stuffed into sleeping bags :( Like me.

If you are a big guy, finding a sleeping bag sucks. They don't really make these things to go over wide shoulders.

@zerk54 I found a good sleeping bag for big guys. I wanted something that was roomy and comfortable. Everyone loves their Wenzel Tundra Oversized sleeping Bag 6 pounds but who cares.

Don't get the small one get the oversized that is like sleeping on a puffy cloud.

Don't get it wet and make a liner to keep it clean.

@zerk54 Agreed, I have yet to find one that I like and I am not even a "Big Guy". Im just tall with wide shoulders.

@beactivelife I started using a wool blanket and poncho liner. It's working pretty well. Being big means big sleeping bag. Takes a lot of space in a pack.

@zerk54 Thanks for the reply, sounds interesting. I have a lightweight Bivy and sometimes I take that with a polyester sheet on warmer summer outings. I have a Marmot Trestles 20 sleeping bag, but the main problem for me is the height issue. At 6'4", which isnt really that tall I find it hard to fit. I also toss and turn in my sleep which is also an issue. Take care.

How does the roominess of the sleeping bag affect it's ability to keep me warm? I mean , how much warmth am I giving up if I get a bag that is roomy enough to let me sleep on my side?

I got a really good friend of mine one of these, a noted female dj from Chicago. Just in case she got stuck between chicago and Milwaulkee in middle of winter.
