  • the original version is on dvd and blu ray with 25 mins added and the 80s version is coming out next month

  • i hope the Moroder version of this film will be released on DVD

  • The movie will be reissued in October on a limited release with a Blu ray to follow soon after.

  • @Gilesfly you just made my day! THANK YOU!

  • Please, someone teach me how to make this an Mp3

  • Her sweet voice melts my heart.

  • This is one of the loviest songs I ever heard. THX for your posting.

  • I'd love to hear Pat Benatar sing some operatic melodies. It's nice to give vocal cred to rock; thanks Pat!!!!!

  • where can i buy the 1984 remake on DVD, it reminds me so much of happy times

  • @thuggie1 An official version of it will be available next year. Kino Lorber was finally able to clear all the rights issues with the music. There's supposedly a limited theatrical release planned for later this year, but only New York is being advertised. I'm certainly hoping Chicago gets it. Not only was it the first serious restoration attempt, it was also the first time anyone tried to use digital multichannel sound in a theatre.

  • @cubdukat I went to the theatrical showing of it. The Regent Square Theatre in Pittsburgh showed it Halloween weekend.

  • @BassPlayerSusan I caught it myself at the Music Box in Chicago a couple weeks ago. I'd never seen it on the big screen before. Now I wish I'd seen it when it was first released, especially at the LA showings where they had the digital sound.

  • you've done the song and this great movie proud.

  • @pyschobabble101 someone posted the full movie 7:49 minutes on YT; yeah!

  • The best song from the best version of "Metropolis". There's more to restoring a silent film than getting all the footage and the technical bit. The decision to use sub titles instead of interrupting with dialog cards, running it at 24 fps and this great music...they were all the correct decisions.

  • @jscottupton The recently-restored complete version of the film cannot be beat, but this is certainly the best treatment of the "chopped-up" version.

  • >petie71. All good , thanks !!!!!!!A sweet song!

  • Thanks Petie71. A beautiful song suitable for this gorgeous actress. I love this film and soundtrack. You have condensed all of the shots of the beauty into this vid.

  • i love this version of this song....there's a best quality CD???

  • ...there is a best quality for this song???.....

  • For those asking: I got this from a bit torrent of the film. I ripped the audio directly from the closing of the film. x

  • @petie71 , thanks very much -- captivating music and film!

  • Thank you so much for posting this music. I saw the 84 version when it came out. I can't figure out how you got the music, was it from the movie? Thank you again

  • I love this song, no matter how many times I listen to it!

  • Too bad this was variant never included on the original soundtrack...

  • BEAUTIFUL~ thank you.

    Stunning! 10* ~ Roses

  • I had not heard this version. I have the lp and it is more like a pop style on the soundtrack album.

The one you have featured is my fav.

  • AMAZING!! This song is so pretty, never got the respect it so deserved! Thanks for posting!

  • WOW!! Thank you for sharing this!! I didn't think this version was available!! How did you ever find this??

  • Always works me up at the end of the movie. Such a beautiful voice and perfect for the finale'.

Thanks for posing this in total.

  • I totally love this version!!! It is the Best! Thanks for posting!

  • Wow-thank you so much for posting this!!!

    :-)

  • I love this version of the song. It is much better than the soundtrack version. Where can I get this version?

  • Unfortunately, the only place is on a copy of Moroder's "Metropolis," but good luck finding it. The movie's been out of print for years, and it's highly unlikely to ever be released again since Kino International owns the rights to all of the footage. Your best bet would be to find either the Laserdisc or VHS Hi-Fi tape and dub the soundtrack from there, as I suspect this user did. But be prepared to pay crazy money for it on eBay.

  • i been waiting for the movie version to show up on here for years, the moroder synth and orchestra sounds so much better

  • Really good video slideshow presentation to accompany Pat Benatar's tremendous vocal's.......thanks for posting this !!

  • whatuswattingat - Benatar recorded the vocals for the movie version as wsell.

  • What do I have to do to get this in my I-Pod?

  • Thank you. Great music to move. I cried too the first time I heared this. The best of Pat Benatar and Moroder

  • The first time i heard this I was moved to tears. This song still does it 25 years later...WOW!!!

  • Nice rare track- thanks for posting.

  • This is the movie's end title.

It's fantastic but it can't match the slow version Pat sang when Maria was seen the first time. OVERWHELMING!

The CD version is only a rerecorded version, very boring in my opinion opposite to the very touching movie versions!

  • Not that I have anything against Pat Benetar, but I loved the movie version of this song better than the soundtrack. Thanks for having this. Hoping that the movie will hit DVD soon!

  • As she sang both versions, no worries!

  • True!

  • Anybody know of a third version?? There was another posted here a few years ago. Not the one from the soundtrack, The version in question is much slower and Pat's range is higher. That version is awesome!!

  • As far as I know, there's just the album version and the ones she sang in the movie.

  • @innamorata40 Yep, I remember what you are talking about. It sounded totally different from this and even better.

  • I heard that they discovered the COMPLETE version of the film in Argentina, and that they're cleaning it up for DVD-- and possibly theatrical-- rerelease!

  • @MaskedMan66: They already did that.

The almost complete version premiered February 12th at the Berlinale Festival in Berlin in the Friedrichstadt-Palast, live orchestrated by conductor Frank Strobel and his Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin. It could simultaneously be watched open air at Brandenburg Gate and in the "Alten Oper" in Frankfurt, as well as on Franco-German cultural TV channel ARTE.

Quite an evening, I can tell you. ;-)

  • @BleuDeQ "Almost" you say? What's still missing?

I'm glad for you that you got to attend the event; I only hope we can have somthing similar when it reaches the States.

  • The copy they found wasn't in its original state. It was edited and copied on a 16 mm negative. Almost all the scenes that have been missing since were contained except a couple of frames that are still missing.

Due to the fact that the original had been copied on that negative with all the scratches and dirt, it was not possible to clean that version up as properly as they did the rest in 2001.

Anyway, it was still worth watching and a real event to a cinema lover like myself. :-)

  • @BleuDeQ I'm sure!

Still, they should keep hold of it until movie restoration techniques are a little more advanced; then hopefully it can finally be seen as it was meant to!

  • @MaskedMan66 Believe it or not, Maria's escape from Rotwang and the fight between Joh Frederson and Rotwang which led to that escape. Such a key moment, I can't believe the American editors cut it out. The Argentinian print and the New Zealand print was pretty damaged, and some of it couldn't be fixed. Wikipedia mentions that the climactic fight scene is missing a few frames. Overall, the re-edit is amazing.

  • best movie of all time!

  • great song....i love it!!! but i would like to have this version...where i can find it??? help me please!!!

  • Great song, great movie!!!

  • I had the movie on BetaMax from an HBO airing, and so have waited over 20 years to hear this full version again. Thank you.

  • I would also love to find the mp3 file for this version! That said, a DVD version of the Moroder version of Metropolis is in order. I have the restored version of the original . . . now it's time to complete the set.

  • Who has the mp3 file of this song?

  • petie71, thank you. i have been looking for the original giorgio moroder movie version of the song in futility for years. although the version you posted does not seem to be exactly the version it is brilliant. thank you, thank you. ( btw, i do not think the moroder's version of metropolis will ever see the light of the day )

  • I have the soundtrack version of this song on CD. I love it!

  • i thought i was losing my mind, i bought the soundtrack for this song and it never felt right....

  • Love it - thanks so much for posting this! Brings back memories of first seeing Metropolis ages ago ...

  • I feel this song is better than the one on the album. I wish this movie (this particular version) would have received more attention.
