  • Yup, i remember i was at the, Ritz, September, NY NY,. and every club they played, great band, forever in my heart THE LUNA MAN now in Peru, Chad Smith was just here for a concert with Chili Peppers, come see Machu Pichu and the Amazon river 2 of the worlds greatest wonders of the world.

  • Is that Chad Smith on drums of the Red Hot Chili Peppers

  • They were way better in the 70's doing the heavy rock stuff..!

  • Yes it was! I was lucky enough to play there April 1984 when they used to have open mic night. It was called The Main Act and the MC that night... Bob Bowers. It was the first club that I ever played and it started an incredible odyssey for me. It was the best times of my life and it gave me a lifetime of great stories. Since my own children saw a video of me from back in the day, now all three of them are into singing, dancing and acting. Great times, great people and great memories! Chris M

  • @Speedwire1 Post some stuff of your kids! Pass the music on!

  • I saw Toby Redd open for Bob Segar at the Mikatam lounge out side of Flint. I think it 1975 or 1976. They were great!! They made Segar look bad. After hearing Toby Redd it was hard to listen to bar band. I wish I could get my hands on a CD.

  • @nabmcm

Thank you nabmcm! You just solved a mystery that has lasted for about 25 years. The Mikatam is the bar where my band opened for Madame X, not realizing until years after that the AMAZING singer in that band was Sebastian Bach. No one I know has been able to remember the name of the place or where it was, we just knew it was a long way from Ypsilanti. Thank you again!

  • these guys played at the pub at fanshawe college in london, ontario - must have been 1986 - i remember them cos i grew up on detroit radio and i told everybody that the pub was gonna be PACKED - there was hardly anyone there!!!

  • saw these guys in the old fryfoggels in london ontario back in the 80,s........I'm getting old..........

  • What about Vicious Circle ?????

  • We had a lot of fun opening for you guy's at the Main Act and Septembers back in the day.

Thanx for having us and partying together

Chris / Drummer Bobby Wise Band

I wanna say hi to my long lost girlfriend at the time Starr Verhelle.

    I love you honey

    xoxoxoxoxoxoox

    Chris

  • Main Act....omg and after that it was the Ritz. Or vice versa..... Now it's a K-Mart. I go in there every once in awhile to remenise. I tell my children "You see right over there in ladies lengerie?...that's where the stage use to be... man..at one time kids this place ROCKED!!!" they just look at me like i got 2 heads and go back to looking bored..

  • actually the first drummer was Chris Mazola i caught his drumstick at Royal Oak Music Theatre and got him to autograph it . Chad was only with the band after they started to go downhill.

  • @limofarmer

In my opinion, A To Z is so much a better album than In The Light, it isn't even funny.

  • wow what a blast from the past. used to work at new york new york in the 80s and dated chad for a while, sure miss the old gang marcy, dante, judy, celeste and the rest of ya. thanks for the memories!!!

  • I used to have a copy of the album this song came from. This song is called Every Time I Run and the name of the album it came from was Into The Light. I remember reading that the name of the drummer on the album's cover was Chad Smith and that immediately made me wonder if it was Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I'm surprised to find out that it was!

    ~Mr. Make Believe

  • played Leamington high school around 1980 or 1981

  • they should of made it!!

  • Seen them at the ritz in roseville im michigan many time the good old times

  • Ritz is in Warren!!! But Toby is an old Home boy, some of us know him, he was okay for a local act

  • I thought the Ritz was in Roseville before it was in Warren

  • I think you are talking about Septembers, which has since changed names and that was on Hoover in Warren. The Ritz was on Gratiot in Roseville. I know this because I was one of those scantally clad waitresses back in the day that worked there. Toby Redd played those places on a regular as well as all the other bars in the metro Detroit area. These guys had a huge following. I have alot of respect for Denny, Dennis, Tony and Chad because they worked hard at making sure their shows were great.

  • used to see these guys at the Dover Hotel in Pain Court, Ontario, Canada, about 40 miles east of Detroit. They were one of the best bands this bar hired and there were lots of good ones. The place got raided in the late 70's and shut down. Now its full of apartments.

  • wow a blast from the past i saw these guys weekly and the 33 and a thirds. love it.

Bill Doss trenton and the harbor house gang

  • I couldn't remember off the top of my head who usually opened for Toby Redd, but it just came to me.....Second Self. Danny was unbelievable on keyboard. He would sing a part of "Unguarded Moment" that was unbelievable. I'm still his biggest fan.

  • I remember seeing Toby Redd almost every weekend at The Ritz (I worked there one summer) and Septembers. I still love their music and play the CDs often. We had such a good time back then.

  • this Band is Special to me being a long time 101 WRIF local. Hey maybe with the Red Hot Chillie peppers being broke up toby redd might get back w/ Chad smith

  • Check out Tony dressed in white with a white guitar in Quiet Riot's "The Wild And The Young" video here.

  • That's Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing drums.

  • Prior to being the Main Act it was the Rare Cherry

  • Was this on "The Beat" hosted by Podell and broadcast on 56?

  • was it called the main act before the ritz?

  • yes it was. Just as NY NY was September's before....

  • @spdskte ....at one time it was called The Rare Cherry....if I remember right.

Do you remember The Struttin' Club....just down the road from there?

  • Toby Redd @ New York New York and the Ritz!!

    AWESOME. Denny is the best!!

  • Live in Cally but grew up in Riverview Mi. Toby RULES .

  • Oh Yeah! Toby Redd was the shit back in the 80s' in Detroit. I grew up in Lincoln Park and The Side Street Lounge was my home away from home. Must have seen them a hundred times there. Who ever has more videos PLEASE POST THEM ALL. I can't get enough.

  • I played the Sidestreet lounge, opening for Toby Redd, in a band called 33&the Thirds for many, many nights back in the early eighties. These guys rocked. Tony is , to this day one of my favorite guitarists.Chad gets all the attention but Denny ,Tony and Dennis were the original members and song writers

  • thanks! justy got my toby fix! sooner or later ill put up some footage of the reunion show. i filmed a bunch of it..
