Our system, despite what the anti-educated crowd may think, is 37th in the world regarding service for payment. Regarding Tort reform-this "magic bullet" that right-wing turds always bring up - I want an answer: How much is YOUR eyesight worth to you? What is a reasonable "cap" for you to maybe lose your legs? Malpractice settlements work out to roughly 1% of the ENTIRE cost of healthcare in the U.S. Doctors complain about paying high insurance premiums? Sound familiar?
I find it very interesting that the party of limited government, wants the government determine what my child's life is worth, should she be a victim of medical malpractice.
Tort reform is a red herring argument. It siply will not make that much difference. In Missouri where there have been reforms in the legal system, doctors liability insurance has decreased by 24% but over all health costs have continued to rise. Tort reform simply is not the answer.
I don't understand why these people think that lawyers who hold irresponsible doctors accountable for their actions are what's wrong with healthcare. It doesn't make any sense.
If a doctor amputates the wrong leg on a patient, leaving them with NO LEGS instead of just one, or they leave surgical instruments like forceps and scalpels INSIDE their patients and then sew them up, they should be in jail. So how is it that lawyers get blamed for holding doctors accountable?
@okplayer420 Exactly- These idiots in this video have "drank of the strychnine" that GOP lawmakers (paid about $350,00.00 by health insurance companies) are pouring down their throats. Insurance companies are experiencing record profits for CEOs & shareholders,spend a million a day to fight any competition to unbridled greed, & still have enough left to buy off turds like John Boehner-Tort reform is a percent of a drop in the bucket & far from a "fix" for the 37th best H.C.system in the world.
what about opening state borders for insurance companies in addition to tort reform. also, tax cuts for doctors who treat chronically uninsured people? this could fix the system better than government control
People, we don't need Politicians. We have been brainwashed for centuries to think we need these leaders to make desicions for us. Not any more. We have the internet to stay informed and we can vote as often as we need to on issues.
So, we get rid of these elected people and put managers in their place that are hired and fired easily if they fail to do what we require of them.
We the people vote on all issues that the managers only think up. Our vote is all that counts in any law making.
That is a true strict democratic form of government. The last time we had that was during the pilgrim colonial age.
The reason it won't work now is because our country has grown a million times more at least. Also the majority of Americans are not informed with political and legislative procedures, so most likely we might screw ourselves over with bad decision making. Average Americans do not have the capacity to make such complicated laws.
And the Journal of the American Medical Association says 225,000 Americans die from medical mistakes each year, many from unecessary surgery. You want to take away the estates of those 225,000 who die each year right to sue for the malpractice that caused their deaths.
I'm going to keep it simple: Fuck tort reform! Read the 7th Amendment.

That is why we established more of a republican society, so educated people can establish the laws that average Americans know very little about.
And we always have a choice on who we can choose so power still resides within the people.

Sure our system may need some UPGRADES but overall it AIN'T BROKE.

So why do 45,000 Americans die from lack of access to health care each year, as they would in a third world nation?
murphyj87 2 years ago 2
Since the Tort Reform laws took effect in Texas:
* The cost of health care in Texas (measured by per patient Medicare reimbursements) has increased at nearly double the national average;
* spending increases for diagnostic testing (measured by per patient Medicare reimbursements) have far exceeded the national average;
* the states uninsured rate has increased, remaining the highest in the country;
* the cost of health insurance in the state has more than doubled;

* growth in the number of doctors per capita has slowed; and
* the number of doctors per capita in underserved rural areas has declined.
