  • Just found your vid and had to subscribe.

I like how you have vacuum packed your stuff to keep space taken to a minimum. What method did you use???

  • put some Kendal mint cake in there :D

  • impressed with ur kit but afterwatching the whole vid i noticed uve vacum sealed almost everything the MRE's are a great idea but i think it would be alot better with resealable bags you would like to be able to reseal them to keep them away from the elements ie. fire kit the charcloth needs to be sealed and water tight same with cotton balls also u would like to keep cloths fresh or atleast dry

  • great vid i only want to ask two things first y dont u apply 4 your firearms licence then u can get a shotgun and a .22 and the other was what is the name of your ruck sack and where did u get it?

  • Nice to see a b.o.b that's not filled with guns&ammunition like our american brothers!

  • Also anotherone to think about instead of the sling shot - which i presume the idea was for self defence rather than hunting - is a pistol crossbow which are totally legal in the UK provided you don't leave the house with it assembled, or try to hunt with it

  • @direx2008 .....as if the rules apply when SHTF.

  • Not thouht about using vac pack before with my kit. I wud highly recomend a better first aid kit with some Israeli bandages which can be used as a bandage, compression, stretch and as a tourniquet as well as used for splinting. Get Some quick clot too incase of arterial hemorrhage.. Also i'd pack some dioreha tabs, rehydration tabs, asprin and activated charcoal incase of poisoning. I'v also got some IOSAT Potassium Iodide incase a Nuke goes off. oh and don't forget the Duck tape! All from ebay!

  • good effort, personally i see a BOB as a means to get out of the house if needs be and BEGIN survival, anything you take can be used to survive, if you need to go longer than 3 days, you seem to have sufficient gear to make a start.. where does the list end for stuff to take? no one can really critisise though as no one has been at the moment of SHTF! sure you can go out for 3 days and see how it goes but when SHTF, no one knows the circumstances.. once again, nice vid and good effort

  • 2012 use by date.. brilliant, they should last 'till the end of days then? ;P

  • Good video, you are very precise.

Just a couple of points... No need for the fishing kit. If you're into the vital 72 'bugging out' hours I doubt you'd spend a couple of them fishing, especially since you've already got your rations.

Antiseptic cream with local anaesthetic is a bit showy. Unlikely to be powerful enough to help with anything serious and quite expensive for the average joe.

  • Hmm... those of you in the UK seem to pack more for a hiking trip compared to other nations ideas of the bug/bail out bag, there is nothing wrong with it, i just enjoy comparing the different mind sets

  • brilliant b.o.b and great vid man!

  • I just subscribed because of:

"Better than using a pine cone".

    :D

  • @MrHarryA Thanks for the sub :o)

  • whats that noise at 07.14...sounds creepy

  • Wow! That is a lot ov plastic! NO probs gettin a fire goin there then, lol u could deffo make that lighter'

  • I would say to include a gas mask for the event of "nuclear" or "biological" outbreak.

  • Seeing as you have enough MRE for three days in your bug out bag. You should take 3 days and try to survive in the wilderness for that amount of time to make sure you have enough of everything you need in your bug out bag in a real emergency.

  • dude all that plastic vacume pack stuff must weigh a ton! wheres the link for the vaccume pack food?

  • I have found as far as food goes the following have superior shelf life & nutrition

Small type pastas the smaller the longer the shelf life (less air in pkg)

Orzo is great. I also noticed these pastas give a great ratio of proteins, cal. & carbs. tuna in olive oil , its hard to get fats that do not go rancid Yellowfin tuna has less mercury

Butter Ghee- clarified butter best in can form look in Indian and Arab stores again store those stable fats

Vinegar- so many uses its insane !

  • How much does this all weigh?

  • Great Vid, Havnt you herd Bugging in is the new Bugging out : )

  • u need a sharpening stone m8 otherwise a real set of kit

  • brilliant vid, its amazing how much it all adds up to :0

  • Good video good kit list.

  • its nice to see some one in the uk with the same mind set. how ever bugging out in the uk. is realy unwise because there is no where to hide

  • @biguglygadgie Correct, nowhere to run nowhere to hide, constant CCTV, no self defence, arrested "on suspicion of attempting to commit a crime", trumped up charges by the police/courts, political correctness gone mad, too many laws - not enough freedom, too much red tape/bureaucracy, legal system biased against the victim and in favour of the criminal etc

  • @biguglygadgie Of course there places to hide. Maybe not in and around the major cities, but in very rural parts of the country its very easy to vanish if your competent, especially in the North of England, and large parts of Scotland and Wales.

  • I don't get why you put your under-wear in a vacuum-seald bag, I would put it i a zip-lock bag anyway.

  • Half of that isn't necessary

  • I dont know if its true but iv seen on some other videos that the swiss firesteel will decay if its in contact with sulfer fyi

  • Although it's not terribly reliable, check poundland and 99p store for stuff if it lasts you one bug out for the price it does well, only draw backs are quality, using a box of matches to start a fire every time isn't ideal but at least your alive and have fire, dont use a main bag from poundland, that is my only regret but live and learn :)

  • Sora, lol.

  • are you cross-eyed (cockeyed)? just wondering not critisism

  • i think you should consider a crossbow rifle to

  • Good video! You may want to consider putting documents in your "BOB". For example Drivers license, ID card, any licenses you may have. Copies of titles to cars, house documents, marriage license, military discharge paperwork, ect. I put all mine in a sealed waterproof bag. These items are very hard to replace if burned, water damaged or lost. Also, any family pics or pics of friends "memories" you may want to hold onto. You can put them on a jump drive.

  • maybe a few para cord bracelets to have on just for more cord

  • Check out my U.K Survival bag guys! Look in my vids :D

  • finally a uk oriented survival channel keep up the good work rick

  • get a firearms license, then a shotgun and a 308 rifle (can kill a man from a mile away) and if you have any money left over you can get a semi-auto AR-15 or 10

but it has to be semi-auto. then youl be sorted my friend

  • how much did all this cost?

  • @sonicsickosixx see video notes :o)

  • @sonicsickosixx Ive been trying to look for a Sport Berkey Bottle but they are so expensive! Any ideas on where i can find a one at a fair price!?

  • @sim0b You can usually find them on eBay - if you're in the UK, kernowrat sell them. Mention my name "Rickvanman" when ordering and you should be able to get a small discount too :o)

  • get a bow or crossbow

  • a 15 pound water bottle dam thats heavy

  • @ipodcharger1 i think he means the price. was this ment to be sarcasm?

  • Vacuum packed food seems like a good idea really, do you have a domestic vacuum packer? I've had a look for one but they dont seem to come cheap?!

  • I definitely think that you could cut some wait out. Try not to pack so many” just in case” items. Personally I’m not a big fan of glow sticks. Can you send me a link for that SAS book? I have the US Army survival guide and it’s fantastic. Would defiantly recommend it.

  • @lonewolfTKD Thanks for the tip - I agree with you. Go to amazon and do a search for "SAS survival handbook" by J wiseman

  • @rickvanman Are all the SAS survival handbooks the same? I’m assuming no? And I wouldn’t store all of your fire-starting material in the same box. It sounds a little dumb but if you drop that box of a cliff or something you won’t be SOL if you have a backup somewhere else. And I think it would make more sence to package your cotton balls individually but that’s just me.

  • @lonewolfTKD all the copies I've got seem to be the same - although they come in different sizes.

am due to revamp the BOB soon so will have a look at the fire kit - thanks for the feedback.

  • @rickvanman Here’s a weird question why did you package your soap with your underwear? lol and it’s good to have a multi vitamin too

  • you did good juust take at least 3 things out that u feel are the heavest

  • Try NATO waterproof matches. The whole stick is covered with the waterproof / flammable coating. The will burn under water. The matches you have are sketchy. The tips are all that is covered in wax. the stick will get wet and extinguish the flame after the very tip burns.

  • Is this a 3 day kit, or are you going camping for a couple weeks? Your pack will weigh 35 lbs with 2 liters of water in it. 35 lbs is significant for many people. RULE #1 is DONT GET HURT. You need zero calories to survive 3 days. Take fewer. Soap? What are you going to be cooking with that cooking system? Your rations? If you need to cook something, bring some tin foil. Utensils? Sleeping bag and a tent? Get a "Blizzard Bag" and use a tarp. Sling shot to hunt with? - for 3 days? Get a PLB!

  • I'm a southern boy from America. I love the way y'all explain stuff! I.E "slingshot" you called a catapult. and flashlights are touches. not pokin' fun just think the cultural differences are cool. BTW i have a couple vids on my small bug out bag, go bag, whatever you wanna call it. In america we can have guns so i took advantage of that in my survival kit. We don't have to think outside the box too much. probably makes you guys a bit more inventive though!

  • Great vid thanks.

  • Iwas having a great day but then my cat died :(

  • OR Air rifle or air pistol

  • OMFG!!! you are allowed guns in the U.K shotguns and rifles. semi-auto in .22 any other has to be in bolt action

  • how did u get on with the shotgun license?

  • A set of padlock picks would be a good addition for your BOB as you can then access fresh water from cow troughs. Cow troughs are fed by the main water supply and is safe to drink.

  • @ukprepare Thanks for the great tip :o)

  • Great video.

Why only 72 hours? If the SHTF, it's not gonna be over magically in 3 days is it? Or do you have somewhere you intend to travel which has more food and water?

Feel free to check out my BOB video, i'm also from the UK....but I think better armed tbh lol :p

  • @Marktheshtfgenius

The 72 hour thing is that the general consensus is that government help will take on average 3 days to arrive.

    Hence 72 hours.

Although I do agree with you about not gonna be over magically in 3 days..

I'm off now to check out your Vid's

  • My bag is slightly different.. I have a solar powered ereader it also has pictures on so i can have a map and radio and mp3 player, i also have some personal details on a memory stick, The only comment about the lighter is i put mine in a balloon, makes a cheap waterproof container..

  • i would get a air rifle better than slingshot for hunting/defending yourself

  • Subscibed after about 4 seconds. Great bag but if you want something really light have you tryed just a small tin can. Mine is a basic soup can with a lighter, pen knife, and fishing wire and hooks wound up inside. I also have some coffee powder in it and some nurtients tablets. I have two bottles of water (380 ml ) plus a soda can converted to an alchahol stove and some alchahol for the stove all of this clips onto my belt (apart from the fluids) and is very light. Just an idea though

  • Great video! It might be worth adding some zip lock bags, to put things in once youv opened the sealed bags.

  • what is your fixed blade knife called???

  • @penguin8128 Mora Green Clipper

  • what is your fixed blade knife called???

  • I would also sugges geting a large - at least 8" long - proper survival knife, as these are more adaptable than axes (and weigh less), and can be used for chopping large pieces of wood using the battoning technique. Check out nutnfancy's site for info on good survival knives. Heinne Haynes is a good supplier to check out for survival knives, and other things as well.

  • Nice vid , good to see a UK specific one for once :). However, may I suggest getting a decent crossbow to go with it? I know they are illegal to carry around, but if things get bad enough to warrant 'bugging out ', I suspect that not being completely legal will be the least of your worries.

  • Check out a tool called "pocketwrench 2" you can find it at leevalleytoolscom . Poke around on the site there's a ton of nifty items such as tarp clamps. they could be used also for attaching things to your bag or help in making shelters

    Cheers from Canada

  • there's a youtube user called "chickenbonewatt" ---> "Wax firestarter - awesome method" and he made an interesting compact firestarter using paraffin wax, dryer lint, and a paper towel tube. also if you take a lil bit of chocolate you can rub it on say a bottom of a pop(soda) can. It will make an excellent signal mirror...and depending on the angle of it to the sun on dry grass it will catch fire...eventually:)

    Cheers from Canada

  • High end telescopic fishing rod, monocular, duck tape, portable lightweight folding solar panel, some kind of pepper spray, minis sewing kit, a little bottle of bleach or chlorine powder...back woods maps etc

  • Just one more suggestion, I don't think shrink wrapping your whole food pack like that is the best way, once you open it you cannot reseal it, try coghlan waterproof packs or just heavy duty ziplocks, especially if its stuff thats already in its own wrapper its kinda pointless. Anything resealable and water proof.

  • What kind of radio is that?

  • You could condense enough efficient types of food into those massive packs for 2 months. 24hr packs??? You are being too good to yourself. Use space more wisely. They whey powder is good but you gotta think in an emergency situation you won't care about being picky, its about survival my friend not candy.

  • I have a thought for you to improve your "BOB"..... 1 is to get braided wire for making snares for small game, also larger mouse traps are good too. There is a US guy who has made improvements for hunting/fishing mod for a slingshot. The web for this guy is "thepathfinderschoollc" . some truly neat ideas for survival he has youtube vid's as well.

  • @clinmo Thanks for the great tips. I'll have to check this pathfinder guy out

  • @rickvanman His name is Dave Canterberry. I think his youtube is wildernessoutfitters. Hope this helped if you havent already found him.

  • if you want to cut down weight buy a cold steel folding knife because they are as strong or stronger than a fixed blade and you can carry it in your pocket.

  • how do you live without guns!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @falsto24 dont have to we are aload shotguns and rifles he has just been misled

  • @falsto24 we procure knives, catapults and crossbows...

  • At last somebody England based !!!! Great video mate..Subbed !!

  • Great video, nice to see one based in the UK, my bug out is alot smaller, no clothes, but loving the vacuum packing xx

  • @wildrose39 Thanks for the great comments - and for featuring me :o)

  • @rickvanman You are very welcome &;) xx

  • @LeoTheSpartan1 LOL! My flat friend! Twas a previous video experiment from an old, removed video.

  • What is an estimated price of the contents of the bag. I am preparing to make one and was wondering what the expected cost would be.

  • @BrushWolf574 I've just added an itemised list to the video notes for you :o) I have to admit the total figure shocked me a little!

  • All you gotta do now is making a vid were you use your gear. Lots of unused stuff there m8 ;-)

  • hi just letting you know only handguns are illegsl in the uk shotguns and rifles are legasl alll u need is a license

  • guns arnt illegal in the uk ecept handguns all u need is a license just letting u know

  • is there a difference to jungle or woods?

  • lol, when you said pinecone a guy went augh!

  • insted of a slingshot why not use a pellit gun under 14fp

  • @retroanglefilm It's 100% illegal to carry them in public in the UK - they carry the same penalty and very long prison sentence as possessing a firearm. - unless you have permission to use them on private land in which case you can transport them to and from that land in the appropriate case.

  • I have one of those knives. It was my dad's old scouting knife. he gave me one of those old penknives too, you know the ones with the tool for pulling stones from horses hooves. I can't imagine today's scouts being allowed anywhere near that kind of stuff now.

  • i have that model of sleeping pad, i didnt get it till my 4th boy scouts campout, the first one i had to use a shag carpet, the next two i used a yoga mat. they teased me, at least you can do some streches in the morning

  • To bad you dont live in usa because we can own guns. We dont just half to have slingshots

  • @michael1231231 we are aload guns this guy has just been mislead by someone

  • @wildoutdoors1 If I've been misled, then please do enlighten me. I live in the middle of a city with no access to private land and no legitimate reason to own one (in the eyes of the law) so I'm intreagued to know how I can go about getting a licence?

  • @rickvanman for land ask local farmers go on organised shoots or join a clay pigeon shooting club. (location doesnt matter) to obtain a license u need to decide what gun (shotgun or rifle)u want as there are two different licenses to apply for license contact local police dept and they will send u the paper work and do the appropriate back groung checks and u need a reference off a doctor to say ur sensible and after all that if u qualify they will give u a gun permit allowing u a gun. thanks.

  • @wildoutdoors1 Thanks for the info - i'll have to look into it.

  • @wildoutdoors1 na I am just sayin that we have the freedom to choose weather you want to buy a handgun or rifle with out getting licences

  • @michael1231231 ah, yes I guess you could get one if you are determined enough. The consequences for being found in posession of an un-licenced one though, are ridiculously dire :o(

I wouldn't be prepared to get involved with something like that.

  • Hey rick, how about adding an ordnance survey map, They are small and light and don't take up much room.

  • You should turn that sling shot into a sling bow. look up a video on how to make a sling bow

  • @beasty1066 thanks for the tip - will look it up

  • you should use a different container for your first aid kit..

    but its a great video

  • Hey thats much more like it Rick, far superior to that other post you made, I really like this piece of work, good stuff.

    NR

  • @northernraider Cheers NR ;o)

  • great video, but use a tripod next time.

  • btw, if you find yourself using that bedroll, i'd advise putting something soft beneath it, such as grass or leaves etc.

I have one that im pretty sure is the same, and it's very lacking comfort-wise, as any bump in the ground is easily felt through it. when ive taken mine to music festivals i've borrowed a friends, as he used an air bed.

You can get thicker ones for around £10 i think, they're not much heavier but they're a lot more comfortable.

  • @TheLordSod Thanks for the great tip - i'll look into it.

  • Just wondering how much did you get the black widow for?

I've had a cheap £3 catapult for ages, it works well and is durable, but im considering getting a black widow because of their repuation.

    great video!

  • @TheLordSod Was about £8-£10 on eBay I think :o)

  • Good idea on the protein powder.

  • Great vid! Quick question: How much did the end bag end up weighing by chance?

  • @futonking about 30lbs

  • why dont u just have a knife?

  • Great video and bag, refreshing to see a sensible bag which may actually be useful. Shame you missed out the AK47, M16 and enough ammo to take on a small army. ;)

  • really cool video... but out of curiosity... am I the only person who hears the weird scream at 7:12 ? lol sounds kinda like a woman in labour.

  • @TaskForceXXII LOL! it was in reference to using a pine cone for wiping your backside!

  • thanks for your tips!

  • I realy like your vidoes, they are down to earth and informative, not like some of the videos out there that's only focusing on guns and amma. keep up the good work!

  • Great vid again Rick and the BOB is well thought out. Thanks for sharing.

  • cool bob m8 defo for us uk residents, alough if the shtf really bad i would make sure i had a 12 gauge and a 22 which u can legally own over here without to much of a problem

  • I'm starting to really like your videos.

This one is very interesting. Your b.o.b. is a lot more practical and realistic than a lot of others you will find on youtube (which are usually made of army-surplus leftovers, guns and no food).

I've put together one of those bags last summer and I'll probably make some changes after watching your version of it.

    Thanks again.

  • @Unicron4ever Thanks for the great comments - glad you found it useful :o)

  • hi, nice vid. it's about time we see a realistic bug out bag (not the teeny tiny bags which we all see on here) a couple of items i think would be very usefull for ya bag;..a medium billy can or pot, this can be boiling water on your fire constantly and then cooled to replenish your water bladder and bottles, thus giving you water to BRUSH your TEETH with every morning..can you guess what you forgot?

  • @hungrynick99 Yeah m8 well how about the Issue Brit Army 120ltr DPM IRR bergen with the side pouches!? Thats what ive got on standby packed and ready to go if need be. Its rot proof and heavy duty. Millbanks are excellent and cheap too for water filtering. Damn right take 3 tooth brushes and 3 tubes of paste cos theirs nothing worse than waking up with a grotty mouth! Also check out the Anti terrorist on youtube.... hes also ace and we can all learn alot from him too.

    Good work Rick..

  • @sim0b Thanks for the feedback, and for the info abou the Milbank - this is the firat I've heard of them - will look into it. Toothpaste - good idea. Already subbed to the antiterrorist - he's good!

    cheers

  • @hungrynick99 Toothbush? Thnks for the great tips :o)

  • How about a bow? There is good take down recuve that do not take much space. Also aren't you not force by law to train using longbow? :P

  • Hmm, if there's anything i could tip about from my kit it would probably be the Dynamo/Wind up Flashlight, got it for only 2 Quid so it was a good buy... i see you have the dynamo radio, it's identical to mine.. and the thinsulate hat, i also have the same :) * Subscribed *

  • Comment removed

  • hello rick, great BOB you got there.

can you post a video with the stuff you use to vacuum and maybe how you do that? thanks in advance.

  • If you can't get hold of waterproof matches, dip the heads of normal matches into melted candle wax. They still strike and light easily.

  • @TK42138 Thanks for the tip - I would add to that not to use "safety matches" for this technique, as the wax clogs up the striking surface and they stop working :o)

  • @rickvanman

Good point. I suppose candle wax would be easy enough to remove before striking.

  • Add some Aloe Vera to your list. Romans, Greeks and many other ancient cultures were using this stuff to treat burns, cuts, and as an antibiotic at least 2000 years before penicillin based antibiotics were invented.

  • @derfy26 Thanks for the tip - will check out the videos :o)

  • U have to buy windproof matches . I bought some for 1.50 in a waterproof case.

  • @Lodgeyy thanks for the tip :o)

  • @rickvanman I'm very surprised you don't have a magnesium brick. Guaranteed wind proof, and with a reasonably sharp edge to shave off the magnesium plus some practice, it's a guaranteed fire starter. Another solution you could use with the magnesium versus char cloth is small packages of thermite. There are much, much better ways to guarantee yourself fire starting ability than matches - water/wind proof or not. If you find yourself hypothermic to start off with, good luck using matches.

  • I've seen a lot of bug out bags on YouTube and Rick I have to tell you, I think you have one of the best bug out bags assembled because you have air sealed and compressed a lot of items to give you more room and it also protects your items from water. In a worst case scenario where there is no law and order and there is pure anarchy, you should figure out ahead of time where you might access some real weapons, starting with a sword, spear, and then up to fire arms. A fencing epi is a good one.

  • @johnny102marvin Cheers John. I think I can still go one better and try to seal everything inside a plastic bag within the main pack. Thanks for the tips - I do actually have a few self-defense mechanisms in place for a severe SHTF situation, but can't/won't talk about them.

  • @rickvanman

Good that you can't/won't talk about self defence mechanisms. That way potential aggressors in a SHTF situ have to guess what they cannot see. That means you would have the advantage.

  • @AtheistGuy2 I've actually got some - Amoxycillin - its called Fish Mox.

I'd only use it as a last resort. exp date is march 2011 - not sure how long these things are safe to use for after the exp date.

  • do you ever go out ? with all that ?lets see a vid with yo carting this all about

  • @joecrx1 Not as often as I'd like :o) - hoping to change that in the coming weeks and put this equipment to the test.

  • @AtheistGuy2 Thanks for the tip - will do that. Hope to get some practice in with it shortly

  • @AtheistGuy2 difficult to bug-out in the UK. I have a few places I can head for locally, but the main plan is to "bug in". I have a bike standing by and suspect it would likely be used in a BO situation.

  • @AtheistGuy2 Thanks for the feedback - my main priority is to "bug in" - bugging out is a last resort move when there's no choice.

  • @AtheistGuy2 Thanks for the tip. really difficult to get here in the UK, although you can buy fish antibiotics which are said to be the same - but it's dodgy.

  • Very comprehensive Rick! :-) We actually have the same tools and bits, it's uncanny!! I have to laugh that the serious topic of B.O.B's is the only time us grown men reveal to YouTube

"and here are my spare pants, and here are my spare socks"

    lol

  • @ProjectEndure Same bits -they say great minds think alike :o) - or it could just be a cse of that's all the equipment we have available over here in the UK.

    LOL at the underwear observations!

  • Brilliant video Rick! Really enjoyed watching!

  • @GamingReviewsLive cheers

  • Very good advice and kit here Rick, many thanks Paul ;-)

  • @007vauxhall Cheers Paul :o)

  • @rickvanman ecamo which is a uk based website have a bushcraft all in one tool for £10.99 which is a shovel, saw, hammer and axe. Its 15ins long comes in a mesh bag and weighs just over 1kg. Another item worth taking a look at in case you have to leave your van is a ploo which is a portable toilet for the outdoors you can find it at the brown corporation.

  • @lisaloolibell Thanks for the tips - been looking at the all in one tool, looks ok.
