  • on the canon hv30 do you record the video digitally (onto sd card) or onto tapes??? Because tapes seem like a pain. Please respond anyone

  • what format did you record it in? 60i, 30p or 24p?

  • You didn't de-interlace. Beyond that, great fotage

  • thats a nice rack focus there a t the beginning is this the camera with just its normal lens?

  • @chrisw443 yes, just the camera, nothing more

  • Hey, wait! who are you going to kill? :)

    Nice work, man.

    Greetings from Brazil.

  • what format did you record it in? 60i, 30p or 24p?

  • @stanlymanly2 50i

  • The best hv30 clip on youtube by far! 5 stars!! Post more.

  • Wow.. i gotta get this camera

  • How many fps does this get max? And max with HD? I'm looking to get one thanks.

  • @joblessalex 60i and 2000/1

  • sonicballer8888 has a great request. I use the exact same filming/editing equipment and would love to know exactly how you did this! Could you explain thoroughly or post a quick video tutorial?

  • woah woah woah hold on one minute there.

You turned 60i slow motion using only premiere pro CS3??? I'm using premiere pro cs3 and I've been trying to do this, but it won't create smooth slow motion.

Can you please explain the deinterlacing and slowing down process to me please?!

  • Shoot using a higher shutter speed. Be careful not to close up the iris and use a 35mm lense to get that shallow depth of fields. Hope this helps. Shoot 60i not 24p.(Important) and then de-interlace it using after effects.

  • omg who were u gonna shoot?lol

  • thx for the video, I watched this then went out and shot mine. It helped out alot!!

  • what settings did you have the cam on for slow-mo? 30 fps?

  • oh my god its perfect!

  • this is great! did you use any colour correction or lighting?

  • Some contrast adjustment and that's about it.

  • Hi mikamulperi. The reason I looked at this video is because I wondered if it was made in Finland. It looks like it may have been. Nice work.

  • Yes it is, Jyväskylä, Finland :)

  • Hey mate you say you use adobe premiere, how much did you slow the footage down to achieve this, cheers joey

  • 50%, half speed

  • and how much do the camera go down? in percent and framerate, please?

  • @mikamulperi and where in the setting to do make that, or was the slow motion done in premiere?

  • How do i achieve the 'actual' speed of the 2000 fps on my hv30 when capturing from tape to pc...or do shoot footage on the mini sd instead? plz help me out i'm lost when it comes to getting the full actual slo mo speed when shooting in 2000 fps on the hv30

  • You can't. The Canon HV30 can record each frame in 1/2000th of a second, but it still only records 30 frames per second.

  • thanks

  • @demodeiowa

shutter speed isn't the same as frame rate dude.

  • thanks man

  • @demodeiowa The shutter speed is 1/2000 not the framerate. Shutter speed is

how long the chip/film is exposed to light. Therefore, frame captured in 1/2000 of a second repeated 30 times a second.

  • Looks great.

  • that's awesome!!! Please could you possibly give me a brief outline on how you got this so smooth (in the filming process and the editing process) Thanks a lot

  • using faster shutter speeds allows crisper motion, so when it slowed down in post it is more appealing than using slower shutter speeds. Crisp slow motion also depends on the frame rate. The hv30 only records 30 progressive frames, 60 interlaced frames (60 half frames-30 full frames) and 24 frames (film frame rate). The more frames the better the motion as well. The hv30 isn't the ideal high speed cam because pro slow mo cams can record many more frames.

  • thats great! thanks man

  • Hey! Thank you for your videos!!!

Maybe you can help me on this question:

If I record in 25p and then render (?) with 1920x1080 resolution, is my movie 1080p?

Nobody could answer me this question...so I hope you know this :-)

    Ciao!

  • As I understand it: yes.

Even though HV30 doesn't record it straight to 1920 it is stretched to that resolution.

  • The HV30 records in native 1080i.

  • I know that. That wasn't my question but thank you anyways :)

  • The hv30 as full hd sensors (1920x1080), but when it is compressed to the tape while recording into the hdv format it becomes anamorphic (stretched) 1440,1080. (the resolution loss is so insignificant). Even 3,000 to 9,000 prosumer/professional cameras use the hdv format even though it is not technically 1920x1080. Some may say avchd is superior to hdv when they are about the same quality. Some superior formats to hdv include hdcam, dvcprohd, uncompressed hd, and redcode raw.

  • what happens next???!

  • is it videotaped on miniDV cassette? or HDV?

  • HDV is a format, not a physical medium to record onto. it records onto a miniDV tape, in the HDV format

you can also buy 'HD miniDV' or 'HDV' tapes, but the quality is the same, the hdv tape is just supposed to have less dropped frames while recording in hd

  • thank you!

  • Also, effing faved!

  • Cool, what is the max fps on this camera?

  • i just ordered this camera and i am snooping around at videos. i am a little confused on something.. when people have 24p video in slow mo, i would expect it to be choppy because there are even less frams the normal.. do you record in a higher amount of frames, and then render it in 24p or what? a detailed explanation would be SO apreciated!

    thanks

  • No... If you are planning slowmotions you need to plan it before you shoot it otherwise its not gonna be goo.

eg. Always set the frame mode to 60 or 50 if you are pal. 1000 or idealy 2000 shutter if you get enough light or using a good camra. Then using BLENDING or PIXEL MOTION you can get a very smooth slow mo.

Shootin 24p and slowing it is not gonna be anywhere close to that but again BLENDING may help (24p 1/2000)

  • Yes, this is not 24p, this is 60i.

  • this might be what your thinkin of

shoot 60i w/ at least 1/120 shutter speed. (Faster works better)

    Capture the footage normally.

Bring into after effects, set the timecode base to 24 in your project settings.

Set the frame rate to 24 in the comp settings.

In the interpret footage menu change it to 24 fps and then "separate fields" to "lower first"

Drop the clip in the comp, do a time stretch (layer menu) and enter 200%.

Add to the render queue and enjoy.

  • sweet dude, those are great directions, i love you

can you use the same directions without the time stretch to get the normal (o not slow motion) 24p?

  • i think so but it probably wont look good

  • hey what's up...I was wondering if you can please help me out. I went out and bought the canon hv30 because of all these awesone vids i see with such quality, especially the slow mo. I did exactly what you said in after effects for the slow mo, but, it's choppy as hell! No smoothness whatsoever to the vid. When you say 60i, you mean in in TV mode? I did that and the shutter speed to 1/2000 and filmed some cars passing by my street....CRAP! PLEASE HELP!

  • sorry, wrong reply!

  • Does it have an manual focus ring??? or did you install any adapters? or did you just use it right out of the box?

  • yes manual focus ring and out of the box

  • Do you slow it down from a function on the Camcorder, or do you slow it down in a editing program?

  • recorded at maximum shutter speed and frame rate, then slowed down in editing program

  • did you uplpoad this footage via firewire or hdmi?

  • hi

At first it has DOF like fx.

Did you just shoot straight off thebox ,using manual focus or buy any additional DOF?

    thn

  • only hv30

  • badass man...so u need a firewire connection for this? what exactly is that? How much is it? Good job again man. Camera looks freaking awesome.

  • a-w-e-s-o-m-e

looking forward to buy this camera

    did u use a 35mm ?

  • Did you add a 35mm video adapter to it?

  • nope

  • imagine how dope it would be if he did. i recently saw the lense adapter its insane

  • God I love this camcorder!

Very nice clip, by the way.

  • nice picture. I'm trying to decide between this or a GL2. right now the HV30 looks like the best choice.

  • Did you use an adapter of any sort? How did you get such an amazing image?

  • great vid

    M.V.B Films

  • Wicked, i like it

  • I have to say awesome job. This video is a major reason I invested into a HV30. I do have some questions that I would really hope you would answer. 1. how did you capture it? 2. what settings in premiere did you use to get such fluid slow-mo? I am using premiere elements which might not be the same. i would really appreciate the help...

  • Very nice video. Please. could you tell me what kind of render did u make to upload into web format?. I have a project (with my HV30) filmed in 60i (wide) and edited using that format, I made a downconvert to 720x480 but when I want some web format the wide format deforms. Thanks in advance.

  • I really need to know: How many pixels does the Canon HV30 have?

  • 1440x1080 actual pixels that are stretched to 1920x1080

  • this video is incredible! I just got my HV30 and now getting familiar with the controls. Glad to see it's so versatile. I'm already disappointed with 2 things...the view finder is fixed on the body and focussing it is hard if your eye has to see the image. shell of the camera looks like cheap dull plastic. Hope it holds up. Canon should have polished it a bit.

  • 60i or 30p?

im assuming 60i because more frames = smoother slowmo

  • Was this shot with a 35mm adapter, if so which one? And what was all the floating stuff? Looked nice and added depth and atmosphere

  • No 35mm adapter. Floating stuff was from the flowers

  • So how'd you get the shallow depth of field? Was this achieved by zooming in and shutter speed?

  • Just put it on manual focus and try, the dof is actually very shallow on hv30. And yes zoom.

  • Yeah, i recieved my HV30 today, and the first thing that i noticed (from my hc3) was the shallow depth of field. I still bought an adapter anyway :)

I am fairly new to manual shutter, aperture and framerate control, but shooting with a higher shutter speed (ie, 2000) and a frame rate of 50i (pal) or 60i (ntsc) produce smooth motion when coming to slow in post production?

  • Yes indeed, higher fps / shutter speed produces smoother slow motion

  • I've gone through every button on Hv30 and i don't understand how you could change fps? All I find is "HDV" or "cinemode", not all the other futures people are talking about. Is there a hidden button somewhere or am I just stupid?

  • You need to switch the camera from auto into M mode by flicking the switch on the right side of the camera.

  • Yeah I am getting this camera. Looks really clear and movie like. :D

  • nice vid so is that known as 24p because on my camera i get priorty speed but nothing that says 24p 20p 60i whatever?

  • this is shot in HDV 50i mode

  • is there a button or somnthing you have to press to get that?

  • Yes, Func->menu, there is rec mode or something like that, cant remember now but when you see hdv-something you are in the right place.

  • cheers will look

  • That looked FANTASTIC. And im not just talking about the qaulity - awesome shot

  • Tällä sä kuule jätkä teet aivan mahtavia elokuvia vastedes. Keep up da good work.
