  • I thought,, 'WTF'

  • Magnification seems great... quality is not. But interesting stuff.

  • Reverse ring - £2, extension tubes - £4 = win :)

  • that is really on a budget... but nice try though the photos arent that good in quality

  • THE PHOTOS LOOOK LIKE CRAP

  • WHO NEEDS THAT ?!?! THE F*CK IS WRONG WITH YOU ?!

Just USE The Lens NORMALLY !!

... And that's why Instruction Manuals were invented ...

  • @PhilippAndFriends I think, sir, you are retarded.

  • @PhilippAndFriends hahahah your comment is my favourite.

  • Why you should rename this video "Macro Photography on Debilitated mental comprehension"

    ~$129 cost of dremel

    ~$89 vise

    ~$200 for 50 mm lens

    ~$6 for black spray paint

    ~$6 for nikon body cap

~Estimated 10 hours of time required to build

~Fabric strips from a now ruined black t-shirt used to pad lens

    OR

    ~$400-500 for Macro Lens

  • @rezanaghibi You're obviously an idiot. For ANY kind of tutorial or build guide such as this, tools aren't calculated into the build cost because it's assumed that you already own them. If you don't have one or don't have a friend with one, don't build it. Boom, problem solved. Also, it's spelled Vice, not Vise. You're welcome.

  • @TylerHasAChannel My very dearest Tyler, I'm not challenging the assumed ownership of the above, just that compared with buying a macro lens, this tutorial is just anecdotal at best. I was amused.

    Also:

    vise

    1. any of various devices, usually having two jaws that may be brought together or separated by means of a screw, lever, or the like, used to hold an object firmly while work is being done on it.

    vice

    1. an immoral or evil habit or practice.

  • @rezanaghibi Well then, turns out I've been spelling vise wrong for over years. And so has my shop teacher... Interesting. Also, your use of unnecessarily large and complicated words in order to make yourself come off as intelligent is mediocre at best. Nice try, good chap.

  • @TylerHasAChannel ;) is this about that date i never let you take me on? i was only trying to sound like some long winded letter. you kno i could never be too good for you! just not into guys, mate.

  • @TylerHasAChannel : Its spelled "vise" OR "vice", both are right.

    Also, @rezanaghibi : You're a douche.

  • its microscope.

  • just use a reverse ring on a regular lens

  • i got something called retro adapter. cost me less than 10 euro and i can use a nomal lens without this procedure ... and the shots are much better in my opinion...

  • i can afford a dslr, a saw, and all the other equipment, but i cannot afford a pringles can!

  • too bad we can't do this with G lenses anymore. Thanks, Nikon!

  • It is funny, but the results are horrible.

  • @scripta1manet i hate that they took ratings away, i was gona give you a thumbs up

  • what a useless video, order one macro ring from amazon, cost 7 pounds, and it has 3 different rings for different macro level... I cant believe you did all these job for nothing and you destroyed more material

  • @planetrics those macro rings won't get you even close to the magnification a setup like this will.

  • @nickbownz seeing the bad result of this "lens" I dont think you are right. If you take a closer look of these photos they are blurry, not sharp at all. So maybe the rings dont take you this close but you zoom a bit and you got the better quality photo.

  • why not just buy a macro attatchment for your lens, then if you have 1 lens you can use it on that

  • @tt01dwifta yeah, you can order macro rings for canon, cost 7 pounds on amazon with 3 different rings... and looks good and stable. Not like this lol

  • he can afford to ruin his camera lens because hes running a nikon

  • Kipkay rather

  • Shame on you kipkag for using a nikon

  • @zoedimax56 what is it with you young kids and your brand wars? Jaysus, I love my Nikon and I love my Canon, and to my knowledge they haven´t fought yet.

  • pahaha i really hope nobody does this :L

  • Images look awful, this totally sucks.

  • @FabioKeitar0 hahahah ya

  • @FabioKeitar0 Did you honestly expect professional results with something homemade?

  • @Shadowtjestalker Not really, but this is hopeless.

  • @Shadowtjestalker there´s a safer trick fro macro photography, and easier:

you put an old lens from a projector in front of your regular lens (better control with a zoom lens)

  • @ArturoDabdoub and the photos are usually nicer, and you dont need to use a tripod always, because if you shoot under regular daylight, or using a mirror, you can test fast speeds.

  • "And cut some strips", some bacon strips.

  • something i wouldn't do because the images really look awful.

  • haha brilliant

  • could not look any worse

  • I used zuiko 50mm f1.4 in front of Olys kit 40-150mm lens to get this shots that you can easily find:

    disco mosquito by ~quaoarus

    B_quaoarus by ~quaoarus

Uploading ate away some sharpness, but viewed at full size they are very sharp.. (Only lost to sharpness comes from lenses, so if both are at their sharpest aperture you should have no problems)

DoF is a problem (as with all reverse macro) so it helps if lens in front has manual aperture, so you can set it while it's not conected to camera.

  • p.s. as others suggested.. using just a reverse ring or macro extension tube would work nicely.. I just found this method to give me sharper results than with extension tubes and zoom function can come handy..

  • i didn't knew something even existed known as bullshit photography before watching this. :) thanks buddy

  • id rather buy a REAL macro lens

  • I wanted to be impressed, but then I saw the results.

  • It's a great idea and a lovely thought for those of us on a budget, but the quality of those pics- the first two especially, was pretty crap. Thanks.

  • garbage photography on a budget?

  • lol if u had money to buy those camera u also have money to buy objective once day

  • "Can you guess what this is?" first thing that came to my mind was "out of focus"

  • stupidest thing i have ever seen why would i put tape on my lens... going through all that trouble might as well by a macro lens

plus its not even that good

  • i have a dozen brand new 55mm 1.8 macro lenses. why am i watching this?

  • @BerkeleyBuilt bcaz yer a cheep besterd

  • @fateless78 every single word you typed was wrong except "a." tell me how is having 12 legit lenses cheap compared to you using a Pringles can as a lens?!

  • Or just flip your fast 50 around with a reverse mount filter thread.

  • I love how he says ''budget'' at the beginning, like he's been waiting to say it for a long time....

  • you sound alot like KipKay

  • @ChiversVinny it is kip kay

  • dude how high is your table?

  • @beathatdrum maybe he's kneeling..

  • I know this defeats the whole purpose of the video but honestly you can buy a proper macro extension tube and a reverse ring for 10 dollars

  • @ernis1100 IKR

  • @ernis1100 yep this video is very bad and i would not recommend anyone to do this

  • 56.......

  • @zoedimax I guess you have little info on cameras don't you??????

  • I need to buy p ringles (and eat it)

  • Dude, you are stupid to purchase a nikon. Nikon sucks. Get a canon

  • @zoedimax56

Man... your comment gives away that you know little (if not nothing about photography)... Some of the Nat Geo photographer uses Nikon, are they stupid to? Comparing Nikon and Canon is just.... lame.

They're both good in different aspect, so they're not exactly comparable to each other

  • @zoedimax56 Have you actually tried both cameras ? Because if you haven't, then you've got no clue what you're on about, If you have, then you've got no clue what photography or cinematography is. Some Nat Geo Photographers use Nikon and some use Canon, both produce amazing photos. Again, It's not about the gear, it's about the photographer.

  • If you can afford a DSLR then you're most likely not on that much of a budget :p

  • hay kipkay you should use a PVC pipe and end caps (the ones with the instant end not the rounded ones)

  • building a lens is no child's play.

  • looks funny :D

  • Tools to do the devices cost as much or more than some macro lens ...

  • so i can take a micro sized picture of justin biebers penis.Oh wait! it will just look normal

  • cool

  • god that is ugly

  • Did you say you donated unused cameras? If so I would to have one please. Thanks

  • how can he fit his hand in the pringles can????

    O____O

  • I used to be a photographer, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

  • @SuperiorHawke I used to make unoriginal jokes, but then I visited the internet.

  • @wigglesyjiggles Cool story, bro.

  • cool ideas

  • no sharpness. waste of time

  • good way to possibly ruin your camera and lens

  • 2:34

    thats what she said

  • rubbish!

  • or just flip your lens and move in closer and further!

  • /watch?v=xpuPu5dKEhA feedback please!

  • Only bcs of KipKay.

  • you have so much cool shit in your garage

  • This is a ridiculous video. You can get third party extension tubes and a reverse mount for about the same price as a tube of Pringles and a can of spray paint. Why ruin a perfectly good Pringles can?

  • reverse adapter + step up rings = cheap and better :)

  • so basically i need to have a lens (which will get sticky with the use of all tht tape), a cutting machine/tool, grinding head for tht tool. in the end including the cutting/sawing tools, making a useable lens sticky nd unuseable i get a "budget" macro lens with no great quality??

I would rather buy a macro lens and save me time nd money..

  • @pradviking Gaffers tape comes off cleanly unlike duct tape :)

  • $10 close up filters

  • dude.. use spade bits for holes

  • great for a project, but for serious macro photography I'd always use a dedicated macro lens

  • Well i bought a macro extension tube for 8 pounds.

  • ang jologs! baduy ang puta!

  • The lens is really expensive.

Is there a a cheaper substitute that I can get?

  • I would rather just buy a nice macro lens.

  • Or just order some extensionrings from China, that are about as expensive as the Pringles can.

  • crap

  • those were the worst pictures i have ever seen. Terrible idea

  • Great!!!!

    :D

  • ....or you can use an actuator and a microcontroller to raise and lower the camera on the tripod

  • >.> Can i have your garage?

  • Macro is supposed to show detail... these pictures aren't very sharp...

  • This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

  • @Thomnasty So do you

  • Will an old straw hat work if I drill a hole in it?

  • I doubt it works too.You have to get the lens oriented correctly.

Ie not too much off angle.

A set of extender tubes are cheap if you dont mind losing AF.

Macro focus you do move the whole thing to and fro.

  • @zenoist2

The Kenko extension tubes maintain metering and .

  • You said you moved the tripod to make sure you got a nice crisp focus however none of the images you showed were even remotely in focus which makes me doubt this even works.

  • what type nikon are you using??

  • Comment removed

  • @CalebFilmsPresent

You didn't consider the fact that you can't rate comments on this video?

  • The quality of the photos is so bad...

  • creative

  • the thumbnail looked like dildo!

  • No top comment?

    BOOBIES.

  • @Edwardtehgreat theres no top comments because you can't thumbs up these comments... so good job

  • @Previous1Next2 Thank you. I appreciate you. :)

  • nice but not the best macro to be honest its cheaper to but some macro extension tubes off ebay and some macro filters such as a +1+2++4 and a +10 i have a +20 just one lens and a extension which was about 10 pound check my photography out at james clennett's Photography on Facebook :)

  • Cooolll...! But i guess for kneekhon i'll get the new 40mm f/2.8 macro DX..

  • I just noticed this is KipKay :O

  • or you could just buy a reverser for about £10

  • Scary that people would go this route.

  • @depellerinluc That's what photography is about, no one wants to look at the same pictures taken with the same method, creativity is key.

  • yeah - do it yorself cheap macro lens and get crappy photos, plus get a tripod, because length of min distance is 60cm... No way is that good photography :(

  • What if i have a compact reflex????

  • I think it is more like micro photography than macro photography

  • Here the truth Come

  • just buy a macro lens for god sake!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • be sure to clean your sensor after this...good god

  • i like to watch pom.........thumbs up if you read it as something else

  • Is the expired pringles can ok to use? Lol or how about some walmart great value brand! , Really good savings trick and video.

  • Ah ha! Pringles Can... we meet again! I haven't seen you since the Yagi Antenna debacle of 2002.

  • hey kipkay what camera do you have

  • Hot glue... isnt it tooweak for a normal 50mm lens wich protrudes about half a metter from tha cam body?

  • one word - macrorings ;]]

  • for focusing you could just wrap the cloth around the focus ring. Then turn the lens while the ring just stays in place. Little more time consuming but faster for shooting.

  • What flavor of pringles can should I use?

  • But will it blend?

  • Really smart. How do you focus?

  • wondered how you can focus?! :D

  • watching this video is like having one of those crazy dreams which don't make any sense...

  • Good for Digital cameras but still prices for the lens but if your using a camcorder just go to Raynox and buy one there for 40-100 dollars =p

  • well that we ruin the Inside of your lens!

  • @IproLegendHDz No harm will come to your lens if you take care of it. Novoflex, the German manufacturer of professional camera accessories and adaptors, everything for macro and close up photography, make a special adaptor for reversing Canon EOS lenses, and mounting them either directly to the camera, on extension bellows, to do exactly what is demonstrated in this video. Visit novoflex.de for an interesting tour of what's possible.

  • Why would I want to ruin my body cap? (Not that I ever use it...)

Just flip your lens and hold it in place. You will get crisper, nicer photos than what this guy is getting.

  • @TheChihuahuaDuo The purpose of the pringles can "extension tube" is to greatly increase magnification. Macrophotography refers to reproduction ratios greater than 1:1 This can not be achieved by simply flipping and holding the lens as you suggest. What you achieve is no doubt some nice 'close-up photography".

When working at in the region of 1:1, depth of field is greatly reduced, even more so in microscopy.

If you have ever worked with a microscope, you will know what I mean.

  • Dont waste your time!

Use your normal lense, reverse it and hold it in front of body.

You will get sharper images than this kipkay wannabe guy.

  • @DonaticX true.

  • @DonaticX Read my response to @TheChihuahuaDuo above, to see why you are wrong about this. Why the rude remark "this kipkay wannabe guy". Remember that folk of all ages and levels of experience see these videos, and he is actually a very good teacher. I have introduced photography to school kids at various levels, and I'd gladly have him as a colleague. And think of this, the TV series MacGyver ran for 7 years, and is being repeated, continuously, around the world. Why? Improvising is fun.

  • @DonaticX this is kipkay you dumb ass!

  • @M1sterHamilton lol right ^^ that shows you how interesting this video was for me ^^

anyway this also shows you what i think of this shit =P

  • what a ghetto lol

  • very nice

  • Kermit? Is that you??? :)

  • just get some macro extension tubes on ebay . and save your prime

  • @MrPlaystationboy You will need at least a bellows extension, as well as extension tubes, to achieve the same degree of magnification. Besides, to spend a little spare time using the brain and improvising, especially if you don't happen to have the cash to buy extension tubes, it's a good way to learn. Far more productive than wasting time on Playstation.

  • You can also just put a magnifying glass in front of the lens. Works just as well.

  • Booo! Nickon :P

  • retarded

  • he cleaned it before he showed cutting it out....

  • OMFG WTF! ! ! !

  • i think that camera has a boner

  • @YellowArdy96 BONER CAM

  • Someone mentioned buying a macro lens-that's BIG bucks. And a macro lens by itself is not going to achieve reproduction ratios even close to this. You can probably improve image quality and lower your reproduction ratio if desired by using a shorter can-just cut it in half. And you need an older lens that has an aperture ring like he used here. Otherwise the aperture of the lens will be stopped down all the way.

  • stupid

  • my hands r too big.

  • Screw that.

  • Oh come on. Get a BR2-A for your Nikon body. Cost is about same as this weird set-up. And img quality 10 times better. No offence.
