  • I just came upon your video. I was stationed on a 'buck & a quarter' from Jan. 66 thru Aug. 68. It was the CGC Cartigan, WMEC-132 out of Panama City, FL. We did SAR and Campeche Patrol - 10 days at a whack. When decommissioned in Nov. 1968 she was bought by a guy who sailed her up to Sheepshead Bay, NY. She languished at dock for a number of years and finally turned turtle about 7 years ago. She was eventually cut up for scrap. Sad ending for an old workhorse.

  • I served on the Alert for a year and a half out of San Diego for SAR and decommissioned her in Long Beach. A sad day for her crew then but to see her running against the wind again makes me very happy. Where can I see her again and how do I get in touch with current owner/s for contributions and assistance?

  • thank you for sharing that coastal cruise with all of us.She is a beautiful boat and good luck in your preservation of her..thanks again!

  • This was so fun to watch. My dad sailed on the Alert during WWII

  • I think you guys were having way too much fun. The Captain might be a little nutty. How is the project coming along? Planning a voyage any time soon?

  • We still need to get her into dry dock and check her bottom... I'll keep you posted.
