What a fucking brilliant chart that week. I know we always say music is shite now but we'd be lucky to get a chart like that for best of year let alone a random week in March
The ITV Chart Show was a music video programme shown on a British Television channel called ITV between 1989 and 1998. The ITV Chart Show consisted of exclusive music videos, specialist charts shown each week with rock, indie and dance and the Top Ten singles chart.
Oh yeah, that Lush track "Deluxe" is on Rock Band 2, nice to see a shoegazing track on a game like that, hopefully Jesus & Mary Chain or My Bloody Valentine may find their way on to such a game.
Interesting fact - Fugazi (at #10) were one of the first bands to be labeled as "emo", even though their sound and image are a million miles away from the dyed black fringed, tight clothes wearing whinings that the genre is associated with now. It was originally a subgenre of hardcore punk which was more experimental and less aggressive. The band didn't like the tag then, and I can't imagine they would like it any more now!
Yes, it's called "And David Seaman Would Be Very Disappointed About That", wrote by Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins) and released with the September '91 edition of The Spur fanzine. Definitely a beautiful and unforgettable song. Go and hear it on the VPME (Von Pip Musical Express) on line.
Well of course the "guy singing with his head in a bowl of cornflakes" in the Sugarcubes video is Einar Orn, the one who got on people's nerves by doing the shouty bits in their songs, when more Bjork would have been preferred.

I loved Lush. I had a Lush badge, and someone once asked me if that meant that I drank too much. Ahem.

galaxie 500 are another band

Birdland were really, really bad throughout their career. Galaxie 500, however, never made a bad album in their lives.
Not very constructive, but there you go.

Birdland seem to be on pretty much all this indie charts, yet I'd never heard of them and no-one seems to have a good word to say about them!

1990, an under rated year for Indie. Thanks for reminding me of Ride. I've not heard them in years.

"Chris and Mike"? No, that's MikI, Chart Show bods... (Like I've never made an error before, I know... ) (And how I love the music of Lush, too)
This is really making me want to go on eBay and look for some '90s indie compilations. Thanks so much for posting. :)
