I agree - I will opt for engine sounds over music every time. I don't know if you've ever heard a P-38, but I can tell you that they are very quiet! Not even close to the sound output of a Mustang.

Much of the video was shot with an extreme telephoto lens using a $500 microphone, but MOST of the time all you hear is wind blowing & grandstands being torn down at Reno. I brought the music way down during the flybys. P-38s are just too quiet, so I made a professional decision to use music.

I'm really a purist when it comes to airplanes. I just love to see them fly and won't watch videos that constantly cut from one shot to another - spoils the whole thing.

There's some good P-51 shots taken at the "Gathering of Mustangs" also on my channel. The music is from the loudspeaker system, but I did get some fantastic sunrise footage of Mustangs and a B-17 taking off for a camera mission in front of me with the sun behind them. Just need some time to edit and post the footage.

Yes - I have a bunch of planes starting up and taking off, and will post more in the next few weeks. But "Glacier Girl" is definitely the 'Queen'!

I also shot the Unlimited Gold race and follow the planes (completely) around the course. It gives a good perspective.
