即係大姨媽到訪, 做妹妹的就唔得閒應付平常生活瑣事

所以"月事來期間性事免問"就用"大姨媽來了"取而代之

古時婦女的生理事務如產子、婦女暗疾等都屬羞於告人之事，需有勞­阿婆協助，因而月經布亦被謔稱為「姥姥」或「陳姥姥」，即「阿婆­」之意。

由於其時年老的女性（即阿婆）又被稱為「姨媽」，於是成為現今月­經之隱語。
