Jon ran a folk club in Bingley W. Yorks. I was a regular member of the audience there, I think that his death was a great loss to English folk music. It is great to hear his voice again. My copies of his albums disapeared in the mists of time but do I have the Brimbledon Fair recording but it would be good if his recordings could be re released. I still miss his voice. He did a song called Jumbo the Elephant which I particularly enjoyed. I add my thanks to you for putting this up CHEERS.
Jon played regularly at the Kennet Folk Club in Aldermaston, Berkshire. I was 17 at the time and was part of one of the resident folk bands. This has brought so many memories flooding back, thankyou so much for posting this on youtube, there were tears streaming down my face as I listened...
@Gillyharvey25 Thanks for your lovely comment Gilly - it was really interesting. Sorry for the tears, but it's good to know that people are remembering him.
Can' believe 40 years have gone since Jon's death. Remember him so well from his visits "over the Pennines" to folk clubs in Cheshire - namely The Bush in Hyde and Bate Hall in Macclesfield. Still remember him and regularly play his music.
This is such a beautiful song...thank you for posting it, it's so lovely. Where is the album available? I can't seem to find it on Amazon UK but I'd love to buy a copy if I could.
@flippyxadomp Many thanks. Unfortunately Jon's albums are no longer available, but we are posting tributes to him as it is the 40th anniversary of his death in July. You can download the song 'Brimbledon Fair' (from the album 'Seasons, Ceremonies and Rituals') via Amazon and there are a few more of his songs on YouTube now. Glad you enjoyed it :-)
@thesupercol... you're very welcome, good to know people are remembering him. Lots of his songs are on YouTube now so Jumbo might be here too!
