  • hey i'm trying to learn this song from the standing in the shadows of motown book. i can't find a version on youtube of the song that you have. would you mind uploading it so i can practice along to it?

  • brillant - I was learning it in the open (below 5th fret) position and Im going to relearn it now. back on the tascam ! cheers

  • In the old days, we use to play the 33 at 45rpm cos you can hear the bass better.

    Sting used to that

  • ive been trying to learn this, and youve inspired me loads to keep on it!! Thanks!

  • There's a great transcript of this bass line in the "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" book, along with a play-along CD featuring David Hungate of Toto playing this line.

  • there is a perfect transcription in the "improvisor's bass method" by chuck sher if you can get ahold of a copy. also an excellent bass method book to have in your collection.

  • My favourite Jamerson bassline, excellent work. Been slogging my way through this with a Tascam CD BT-1 for a coupla weeks. Did you have the music or figure it out yourself? Whatever, best version i've heard.

  • @mackaa8 thanks for the comments.I too used the Tascam to work this one out.If you can get hold of the CD "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" deluxe edition it has this song without any vocals which makes it easier too hear what the bass is doing.Hope this helps.

  • Nicely done on arguably one of James Jamerson's most difficult basslines!
