joon rhee a taekwondo grand master taught Bruce Lee kicks, and taught muhammed Ali a punch..... and who are these people mostly known for??? yeah so dnt dis on TKD. lol GOD BLESS
i wonder if this actually works in a full contact fight against a well round fighter that actually knows how to punch and take any of these 80 pound cats to the ground
@LeoLovesNature your an idiot, of course it's effective, sure american stuff isn't but these are fricken epic fighters here. Also if you think mma fighters are "well rounded" then your wrong. those people really suck actually. these people are good at fighting, though the olympic stuff sucks, these guys don't.
@hrDiablo2 But bullets aren't locked on so they "CAN" be avoided enough to get away. Also you don't always have a gun running around places, you always have your fists, well for the most part :P
The crappy and fricken awesome part both is that you have to go to korea to test for a certain degree and up -.-
I think it might be 7 that is required. And sucks because it will be hard, but korea has a lot of amazing martial artists. But belts don't matter, one of my sensei's is a 4th degree black belt but he could be an 8th degree black belt, like one time I was talking to him, I felt like he was trying to avoid to test -.- He like refuses to go up in rank.
@600013818 But he's way better than his belt rank. He's been in the army, been a police officer, and has done many martial arts. He has a deep understanding of the body. He's way above the level of his belt.
This is not what im use to... is there a difference between itf and wtf? becase what i am tought is that you use your balance to kick higher and higher yet most of there kicks invole there upperbody 90 degrees from there Leg. or there punching, involves the arm mucsles while im thought to use your lower body to generate the power that these guys have.
There are quite a few differences between ITF and WTF, but most of them are pretty subtle. The method of generating power for hand techniques is slightly different too. I'm with the Progressive Taekwondo and Budo Alliance, which draws from both styles.
These are guys are good yes but they dissapointed me with the self defence endings. The combos were brilliant but at the end of each most stumbled. Dont get me wrong these guys are amazing!
Iam going for my Black Belt in September/October time, i cant wait. I wish we were taught like that in England, it would be soooo much more useful, its like when you do it here, it doesnt feel like a martial art, more just a bit of self defence, but i still love it, i have it tonight infact lol
@lrjs93 If you do WTF do your self a favour. Drop out of the WTF and join the ITF. They hand belts out like candy in WTF. Not to mention the fact WTF barely uses hand techniques. If your really passionate about Taekwon-Do stick with the traditional/original version.
@randomnator I do WTF but my teacher is no pushover, the main one of it. He was in the army, he was a police officer, he has done like 6 martial arts. All I can think of on the top of my head are muay thai, taekwondo, and some weapon art that uses a foot long stick. It's the exception to WTF I suppose :P
Quoting him from conversation: "WTF is sport martial art, olympic style. But I am hoping to teach you guys martial arts for practical situations"
@randomnator In my class, there is a person who specializes with wrestling and MMA moves. I learn that stuff from him, my master teachs us some judo stuff, he teachs us some muay thai stuff, and he teachs us the practical taekwondo moves. But he still makes us do hellas line drills, which is tiring as hell but it's the important part. A green belt girl 14 in my class versus a 16 year old boy black belt.
@randomnator Black belt was visiting our class, he says "I can't waste my time on this stuff, let me do sparring" and my master was like "What the hell" and he put him, the 16 year old black belt against a 14 year old girl who was a green belt. And let me tell you, line drills makes a difference. It wasn't even close, she kicked his ass, he didn't even get a good hit in. It was extremily embarrassing for the guy I bet :P
@randomnator Let me tell you, I train extremily hard for taekwondo and I could have gotten a black belt at other WTF places a thousand times over but I'm a green belt blue tip. I'm hopefully going to get blue belt or blue belt red tip but the tests are hard.... to get the yellow belt, like a 6 hour test, no joke. It was 6pm at start, and like 11 something at end. And most of that was line drills, which are as tiring as hell....
@randomnator dude let me tell ya something... NOONE trains the ORIGINAL taekwondo... each dojang has a way of training, none of them are wrong, all of them are right, on their way of seeing taekwondo
@DTIESTO16 WEll not Tracy's Karate. All they do there is have birthday parties and let you hold real samurai swords, ohh and they teach taekwondo too :P
just because they are all black belts dosent mean anything. i mean where i train there are tons of black belts who cant do shit and makes the school and all the instuctors look really bad
No, maybe you should read more carefull. I practice ITF Taekwon-do for about 13 years now, but I will never ever say WTF doesn't 'work'. The 'pure' form of Taekwon-do is found in ITF taekwon-do, WTF is more focused on the sport side of Taekwon-do. So, ITF Taekwon-do is the 'real' Taekwon-do for as it was meant to be.
Sorry, you're absolutely right. Forgive me for my bad choice of words. I meant to say ITF is the original form of Taekwon-do. BTW I'm not saying ITF is better (or worse) in any way. Though, obviously, I like ITF better=)
I've seen WFT work in real life. grew up in nyc w/many koreans. HS lunch room korean kid being bullied. Korean kid is looking at the lunch room monitor instead of the bully. When the monitor is looking away korean kid snaps a side kick to the bully's head and then walks away. by the time monitor comes to see what the commotion is it's all over.
Actually... this is not the "real" Taekwon-do, ITF Taekwon-do is the "real" one. WTF is something else than Master Choi (founder of Taekwon-do ofcourse) intended Taekwon-do to be, so I figure ITF is the "real" Taekwon-do. Though this movie is great, ofcourse. I think WTF is more spectaculair than ITF, Olympics do show WTF and but that doesn't meen this is the real Taekwon-do.
That is a big misconception, one that is really, realy wrong. ITF is not the "real" Taekwondo. ITF is counterfeit Taekwondo based on the Shotokan Karate that self-promoted "Grandmaster" Choi Hong Hi learned as a 1st Dan (yes, he was only a 1st Dan in Shotokan Karate). WTF does not recognize him as the founder of TKD simply because he wasn't, only ITF people believe that lie. Search "1980 Kukkiwon Taekwondo Promo" and watch both videos to realize that WTF did not evolve from ITF as others believe

I suppose you do karate... calling your master sensei...
One of the reasons that martial artists dont want to go up in rank is that they would look bad if they have high rank but bad skills.
