In January 2012, MI Extension classes in Audio Engineering, Music Video & Film and Music Business will be offered independently of the certificate or degree track programs.
Hi Irieiris28, we strongly recommend a background in music theory that involves sight reading if you're looking to pursue any of our performance degree programs. However, we take into consideration your entire application including your personal statement, letters of recommendation and audition video when determining acceptance.
Our certificate Industry certificate programs are offered as emphases to the performance programs, or as individualized certificate programs. So you may study those...
If you a are a beginner at playing bass (beginner as in never had any formal lessons and only been playing about a year or so) is there still a good chance of getting in? And is it possible to take the Audio Engineering class and Music Business class without taking a bass, guitar, ect. class? Or is taking one of those necessary?
@RandyRhoadsFan96 Well It would be a good idea to try and at least learn the basics before you go here. In the associate of arts they have Music reading 1 2 and 3 where you can learn to read music. if you go to there website and go to the tab backgrounds and find associate of arts (im assuming you play guitar) and choose guitar and it will take to a page where you then have to click on associate of arts and it will show you their curriculum and what they do during those classes from single strin
hey im only in the 9th grade, but i have been playing guitar for 5 or 6 years now. I know basic theory (reading music, major and minor chords, basic stuff). Where can i find information about getting into the school/auditions?

i want to go here when i graduate from high school but the thing im worried about is if id be good enough to make it in :/ but i still have 3 yrs left so........
@InsanityType66 i know exactly how you feel. My biggest fear is that I wont be able to get in over something stupid like some bad grades in math or because I'm not that good at theory you know?? And im only a year older than you dude.
yeah man. im indian so the pressure on at school. everyone thinks im supposed to get A+ grades in stuff when im really only good at music. math im bad at and history and L.A. i suck at :( but im gunna try really hard to keep everything up. and i just started doing theory cause i felt stupid musically .
ya i know what ur talkin about too im a sophomore and im wondering if i need to get into algebra 2 to get into the bachelors program at mi. im currently in geometry.
im in geo too. we have a really strict teach FML . on my quize, i turned it in knowing i got an A+ and i had 2 mistakes: not putting an angle measure and not putting a --- over a reapiting number. FML
I've been to Berklee. I went for a couple semesters...in all honesty...MI looks better to me for being a player aqnd a casual artist. Berklee is amazing..but just way to...idk...traditional.
Berklee is very traditional. In terms of teaching I know berklee has amazing professors, but are as you said traditional in teaching. I look into MI further. maybe I'll take a trip down there and take a tour. Maybe when i finish with Northeastern ill apply for the hell of it.
I graduated from MI in '89 (drums) and I'm sure there are some decent teachers there now too, but the place is set up like a factory: $20,000 in, "musician" out. Don't go if you don't have some serious cash, and don't let someone else pay any of your tuition for you. You need to earn your talent.
My advice is to first take good lessons in your hometown for six straight months, showing you have the discipline to practice MORE than he assigns. Then you'll have a clearer picture.
hey umm ok so i just graduated from high school and i been playing guitar for 5 years im pretty good and i want to attend MI but im not sure like what it can do for me can you explain it alittle more? please W/B
I have been playing guitar for about 4 or 5 years but I am not sure how good you need to be to sign up there for the aa program can any one help me out with that?
There are players at MI that are beginners, and there are players that are professionals. If you are a beginner and havent played for so long, you probably have to work harder. Go for it!
OHHHH shit so this is in california????? ME WANNA ME WANNA
