What happens when you use two monitors? Does it just split the screen in half? Or can you choose options (like say, gnome panels on one monitor and dock on another?) I tried looking carefully at the video, but really can't make out...
@wdrpsp19 it pretty much acts as one giant monitor so instead of 1920x1080, its 3840x1080. then you can just kinda drag any windows over to one monitor if you want.
@christian1terminate Why did you have to return to Windows? I still do too, because there is still no driver for the printer at home. So I have to load Windows everytime I want to print!:*( However, if your problem is not the lack of a hardware driver, I think GNU/Linux can offer almost everything Windows can offer. WINE can even run Internet Explorer on Ubuntu (which I think is illegal!). Me being a tutor? Sure! If I know the answer..:)
@christian1terminate I see... I'm not really familiar with VMWare or VirtualBox, I just went straight to Mint and OpenSUSE. Maybe you already know, if you want to run native-Windows games or programs, there is WINE which could emulate Windows so that your programs think they're running on WIndows. I've only used it once and it was really easy. I read that it can't handle advanced gaming, but I also read that it can run Warcraft nicely, which I would consider an advanced game.
@christian1terminate Also, if you want to really learn about computers and operating systems, GNU/Linux is definitely the way to go. You'll be able to see everything under the hood. I've been using it for a year now and I'm just having so much fun taking everything apart and just learn how things work together. And I don't want to ever go back to Windows, because I felt like it kept me stupid. It's also the future OS along with other free OSes. Many governments are beginning to migrate already.
@christian1terminate You're right. Many of them aren't user-friendly. But user-friendliness sacrifices configurability. Take Mint for example. It's very user-friendly, but don't intend to turn it into a server, because you'll have to untweak all the tweaking Mint's developers have done to turn the system into a home desktop OS. This is why I think Windows is behind Mint in user-friendliness. Because Windows must serve a wide range of audience.
@christian1terminate We never interact directly w/ the kernel and so you can't say that Linux is not user-friendly. I don't know what OS you used, but try using Linux Mint. I LOVE it so much, because it's so simple. I'm a command line junkie and love programming, so I use Debian. But there are times when I need a break and just want to enjoy my beautiful, elegant and simple Mint (it's much simpler than Windows IMO). But it's like Mac, don't modify it through the CLI. It'll behave strangely.
@christian1terminate Saying that Linux is not the easiest OS in the market shows that you don't know much about the OS. First of all, it's a popular misnomer to say that Linux is an OS. Linux is just the kernel. The kernel is the central software that manages your printers, monitor, mouse and all your other hardwares. It also manages that processes on the PC don't step on each other. But there's more to an OS than the kernel, including boot loader, userland, desktop environment, etc.
whoa whoa whoa, someone gave u a thumbs down christian haha. ill thumb up to make it even. i dont fully agree with everything you say, but I do like that your not blowing shit out ur ass like alias and you actually have knowledge of a computer. opinion is fine on my channel, idiocracy is shunned.
lol, i have read ALOT of bad comments in the past, but im pretty sure 90% of intelligent people will agree that vista is the biggest joke on the planet. W7 is good, but it still looks no where near as good as what compiz can do, and linux still runs faster. im quite sure based on your comment u have never used anything but windows vista and 7 therefore u are ignorant to comment on such video.
sure- im running an intel quad core at 2.33 ghz, 8gb of ram, 1gb 9600 gt video card.
although you dont even need that much to run what i have running in the video. all 4 cores never touched 20% cpu usage in this video, which means a dual core and a 512mb video card could do it as well. ubuntu is very very resource friendly.
