Perhaps it was travel fatique, but this is not the JH we should remember. I had heard that he was losing his voice at the end. Perhaps this indicative of his problems to come. I chose to play his earlier work. A fine singer/musical artist.

@Lovelytenor1 I notice, just from observation a real switch in approach from 1997 or so onward to a wider whiter sound, also, I noticed watching this concert that Jerry does quite alot of coughing... He is still a great inspiration to me,

@hightenor123 Nobody, & I mean nobody, comes close to him in broadyway tunes. As a singing lesson, listen to his "Ideale" by Tosti. He sings this lovely melody completely without headtones throughout. This means that the voice is doomed to a short career. At 66 I still sound like a young tenor because I was taught better. Gedda states that tenors should not study with a woman because they know nothing of head voice. I do think that JH studied with a woman.

@Lovelytenor1 I had the great good fortune to work with Jerry before he died. I learned a very valuable lesson from him about registration and everything I know about the singing of broadway songs (there are some clips on youtube on my channel :)) and interpretation of text with honesty. I loved the man!

@Lovelytenor1 I mean, if you listen to a moment like 2.19, he is singing that F sharp wide and open, and then he covers (or rounds or puts it in line however you like to think of it) right at the last minute. That suggests to me that his swtich was intentional if he still had the control to go back and forth.
