What's the alternative and why? The con's and Labour are to very different partys though it may be hard to see. Before Thatcher inflation was 27% the industries like british coal and british steel were uncompetitive and inefficient . When Thatcher left they were in a far better position, inflation was under control and we had a far better standard of living. We went from being the 15th richest country to being the 4th richest country in the world, which means a better standard of living.

GPD growth in 1980s was 2% to 4.5% not that it means very much. Booms and Busts are caused by credit expansion and contraction, credit expansion creates malinvestment. So the bigger the boom the bigger the bust is required to purge the economy of bad investment and relocate resources. What you have to look at is did we increase our productive capacity. And the UK did, for example british steel went from being the worst steel company in europe to one of the best.
The bottom line is that when I vote for a party I want to know that, if elected, they will work for the good of the people, I want to know that my mother, a pensioner, can go to the cinema without getting raped in a dark alley on her way home, that the sweet little old lady down the road will get a new hip when she needs it, that the kids that I teach will have a life that doesn't involve gangs and drugs, that the streets are lit & safe and if I have to pay a little more tax to get it so be it!
The reality is the longer the government, any government trys to delay the problem with inflation and stimulus. The far worse the problem gets and the deeper the cuts in public spending will have to be, it's better to take the short term pain. Most of the growth in government revenue was from the growth in the banking sector and the housing bubble. This is revenue that will not return no matter how much they try to inflate the economy.

In the USA they have a quasi-public central bank, meaning the government pay the federal reserve in bonds to print money. In the U.K. very little money is owed to banks, last time I checked 3% of our debt was owed to banks. Our government isn't in debt to the BoE it is in debt to foreign investors and private companies.

First we could start by nationalizing the BoE, and returning the power of the elected Government to print money. Returning to the gold standard is also solid argument; just look at how the pound is plummeting against other currencies around the world, gold can be stored in hundreds of high security facilities across Britain. Why the British Government allows a private company to print our money and then charge us interest on it is complete madness,

I don't know why everyone keeps ignoring me but there is not enough gold to have the gold standard any more. The gold standard also destroys our ability to manage the economy efficiently. Remember, it was under the gold standard that The Great Depression occured, it really isn't that safe. Those that dropped the gold standard before The Great Depression actually barely felt it. Those, like the U.S. and France, who kept it, suffered the worst.
I can't believe that I forgot the most obvious point, why the BoE is independant. If the government owned the BoE then it could simply print off more money to pay its debts, firing the nation into inflation maybe hyperinflation. As it is, The BoE won't allow the government to do this whenever it likes as the BoE is a creditor and wants its money back with value.
Well your argument is fair but there are a few things you are missing. The BoE currently has a 0.5% interest rate, the inflation rate is almost 2% - so they really aren't making much money, if any when you consider administration costs. The BoE also pays for itself pretty much, a nationalised system would cost the tax payer a lot of money. Banks are creditors to about 2% of our national debt so I don't know why you are attacking them so harshly.

Before Thatcher inflation was 27% the industries like british coal and british steel were uncompetitive and inefficient . When Thatcher left they were in a far better position, inflation was under control and we had a far better standard of living. GPD growth in 1980s was 2% to 4.5% not that it means very much. Booms and Busts are caused by credit expansion and contraction, credit expansion creates malinvestment. So the bigger the boom the bigger the bust is required to purge the economy of bad investment and relocate resources. What you have to look at is did we increase our productive capacity. And the UK did, for example british steel went from being the worst steel company in europe to one of the best.

The reality is the longer the government, any government trys to delay the problem with inflation and stimulus. The far worse the problem gets and the deeper the cuts in public spending will have to be, it's better to take the short term pain. Most of the growth in government revenue was from the growth in the banking sector and the housing bubble. This is revenue that will not return no matter how much they try to inflate the economy.

Sorry but when are you ever paying money directly to the BoE? I think you have watched Zeitgeist and have gotten a little confused. In the USA they have a quasi-public central bank, meaning the government pay the federal reserve in bonds to print money. In the U.K. very little money is owed to banks, last time I checked 3% of our debt was owed to banks. Our government isn't in debt to the BoE it is in debt to foreign investors and private companies.

I don't know why everyone keeps ignoring me but there is not enough gold to have the gold standard any more. The gold standard also destroys our ability to manage the economy efficiently. Remember, it was under the gold standard that The Great Depression occured, it really isn't that safe. Those that dropped the gold standard before The Great Depression actually barely felt it. Those, like the U.S. and France, who kept it, suffered the worst.

If the government owned the BoE then it could simply print off more money to pay its debts, firing the nation into inflation maybe hyperinflation. Well your argument is fair but there are a few things you are missing. The BoE currently has a 0.5% interest rate, the inflation rate is almost 2% - so they really aren't making much money, if any when you consider administration costs. The BoE also pays for itself pretty much, a nationalised system would cost the tax payer a lot of money. Banks are creditors to about 2% of our national debt so I don't know why you are attacking them so harshly.

Realistically it doesnt matter who we vote for because most politicians do the same thing, they promise, they lie, they cover up and after a while they hope some of this gets buried under the mountain of lies.
Democracy would mean we would get a vote on the constitution or treaty......we wont, and if we did they would keep asking until we gave them the RIGHT answer.
Most people dont vote because they dont trust politicians, and with good right.
