I would have loved to work on this series. We're working on a series for cable. There will be two visits to a small town and countryside. Makes me in the mood to do it. We're using a great production library we bought for less than $200. It has the theme to one of those lost in the woods TV series. Surprised me. No royalties. Good ork & arrangements.

You can stream these on Netflix now. This alone made my Roku worth it. Little known fact, the original Helen, shown here, didn't do the series when it resumed because she and Christopher Timothy had just broken up.

@deirnoel with all respect to Linda Belingham who replaced Carol Drinkwater but I could never accept her as Helen.They should have worked out an adaption of the books and have James divorce Helen and remarry a new wife played by Linda or just have him single.

I watched the shows on our public TV first. I loved them. Then I read the books. So, I had no problem with how everyone appears.

Watching the TV show just started my reading all things Herriot. The short stories in his books are wonderful to read whether you are 12 or 75, .

As a nurse I found that the animal owners were very much like the families of our patients.

I started reading the book when I was 15. I don't know if a 12 year old would enjoy it as much, but i thought it was just lovely! I would recommend it!

My mum had the book set and she was going on bout it and how funny it was and that she'd seen all the programmes, one day we found a modern version of the bookset! not sure what book im on but its hillarious im at the point where Tristans' prentending to the ghost of a monk!

James Herriot is one of the greatest British writers ever. Oh My, I have to download the serial. Is it as good as Herriot's books?

I havent seen the series much, but personally still prefer the books. I pictured Siegfried quite differently , looks and behavior-wise. But I think Timothy has done a wonderful job as Herriot.
