his father left him when he was born, his mother left him with his grandma and moved to sacramento to be with another man, so his grandma pretty much raised him. if you haven't noticed, all his jokes are about his grandma, none of them about his mother or dad. he pretty much owes it all to his grandma, so i don't see anything wrong.
