  • That lady that introduced her seemed to be the sweetest sister. Would love to have met her.

  • Wow, her voice gives me chills! Absolutely awesome!

  • yep... still got "the Voice!"

  • I wish music like this was still around. amazing doesnt even describe these artist. There beyond that!

  • People!!! The information on the web on this question is very much inaccurate. I asked a Facebook friend who knows EVERYTHING about Doo Wop. He tells me, which means it's true, that Arlene Smith is very much alive and well.

  • RIP WE LOVE YOU

  • Beautiful song, and beautiful voice.

  • thumbs up if john frusciante bought you here

  • Thought all the great voices were gone with the way so called music is played today. Until I met Bobbie La Day and Robbin Banx. If you've been to Do wop concerts you've already know who Robbin is. Bobbie is a Jazz singer and is writing an original song for our show, Both will be in the season ending episode of Straight Talk A Mob Story. Friends and family tell me I'm stuck in the 50's and 60's, but after the early 70's what the heck happened to music? Break the C.D. and spin the 45rpm

  • I believe this was her last performance, shes no longer living

  • How could 9 people not like this? Perhaps they think Gaga could do it better?

  • Well then! Gon and sing the song Arlene!

  • I saw another one of those PBS concerts with the Chantels. It's not the same without Arlene.

  • Gosh i love this song

  • @pjny2 Maybe the best female vocalist of ALL time> Gotta love her.

  • Arlene Smith is not dead. She is a school teacher in the Bronx

  • fantastic diva!!

  • Saw them last night at the Westbury Music Fair, still wonderful after all this time. This is one of the best songs ever recorded. But what made it great is they're just as good live! What happened to real music?

  • @deejayspop did you really work there when they did this show!!! That's amazing it must have been a great experience seeing all these artists

  • frusciante does it better

  • Wow, that voice is really amazing! I'm stunned.

  • I think the girl who introduced her has a thyroid problem, what with those buggy eyes. How come most black singers are so FAT??? Must be that gub'ment food support.

  • @chkrat22 when you are their age maybe you won't be so quick to judge. metabolism slows as you get older.

  • @chkrat22 Trust me, it ain't the gub'

    ment food support.

  • No matter what, in my mind they are the greatest female group of all time, and to see them together again for that one time was enough for me.

  • I get sick everytime I see this, I worked ast Bell studios and she was disliked by everyone including her own group.she thought her shit didn't stink, as evidence by this video, she just couldn't be on the stage with the rest of the group, no, she had to make an entrance, no other singer on that show did that. Her "dedication" to Jackie was sickening,Jackie hated heer

  • Do not argure over this song or singers....Look how many views they get! Because they deserve it all with flying colors! A classic forever!

  • I was just a little kid when i heard this song .... I thought these grils singing -" Maybe" were amazing! And they still are ! I can hear this song ringing in my ears today! Great song, beautitul singing, lovely lyrics! The generation today may not know what REAL singing and wonderful words are til they hear a song such as this one! I am so glad i was born in that era! RHCP sing this song too! I sing it at a gatherings as good also! Hope you hear me one day too!!!! Edmondo (etsonggalaxy

  • Wow. What a voice. Wish I knew the backstory of the history between Arlene and the remaining Chantels. Seems like there may be some unresolved issues but I hope they made their peace after this show together.

  • Possibly the best female voice ever.... I get goosebumps when I hear her belt out this song.

  • Listen to Arlene Smith...take notes, be humble and thankful that that voice was put on earth

  • This song is a classic, and songs like these will never die, this song made me cry the very first time I heard it :)

  • Arlene Smith is still very much alive.

  • Arlene sounded fantastic. She really took care of her wonderful voice. This was taped at least 40 years after the original 45 was released.

  • I fell in love with every girl I danced with during this song.

  • She sounds fantastic here. This song is such a timeless classic . . .

  • John Frusciante? I think so.

  • Fantastic song and singer, so many memories

  • wonder what she's been doing since she left the chantels

  • @crazybobby33 ,well for one thing she passed away.

  • @RATHAHONNI - I can't find anything online about it, are you sure?

  • @RATHAHONNI

    No she didn't dude.

  • @RATHAHONNI NO MORE WONDERING NOW!! *SMILE* GOOD ANSWER!! THX 4 POSTING THIS ONE..VERY SPECIAL!!!!

  • @RATHAHONNI Okay, that was good. She's about my favorite singer but I laugh nonetheless.

  • @RATHAHONNI I didn't know that. I loved Arlene Smith and the Chantels..had their album so gee, guess how ancient I am. But great music is timeless, thanks for the video..

  • @crazybobby33 No, Arlene Smith still performs, just not with the Chantels.

  • @crazybobby33 Eating

  • what a voice; love her

  • she sings with so much heart and soul!!

  • LOVE it and Arlene!!! So happy when I saw this years ago on PBS!! The ORIGINAL Doo Wop girl group, without which there would be NO Supremes, Destiny's Child or ANY other famous girl groups!! Lets all remember that and give them their props as we can NEVER fathom what they went through during those times in a Male dominated Doo Wop world!!! BRAVO LADIES!!!!!

  • She's still got it!

  • What a voice!

  • the first time i hear this son i was 24 years old. it made my tears come out. the first time.... it was like if some one wrote this song for me many years ago. year 2003

  • She still sounds good, you go girl, the chantel still rock!!!1

  • She still has that beautiful voice.

  • One of my favorite songs.I like it soooooooo much.

  • Would somebody please tell me where to get tickets for the next Doo Wop Gold? We'll go anywhere to see this great show!

  • Just an aside here for the edification of mankind:In the way of truth-seeking, LSD is unlike human frailty, And whereas, the necessity of paving the wave of the future in concrete predicates an interpretation of reality that cannot agree of a moral ethic which does not preclude preemptive violence, injustice, and inhumanity, while bridging the gap between global apprehensions and the “Sure Reality,” (of the Qur’an,) is the means* to sojourn in the totality of cosmic consciousness.

  • I danced more than once to this song

and it was my favorite slow dance song with my first girlfriend although the first song we ever heard together was Pat Boone,

at least that's how I recall it now. Geez.....the days, the glories, the fun.

I wonder why she tanked me to this day. As I recall it was the winter of 58-59.

  • Arlene Smith had one of the greatest voices of all time. The last great female group was The Supremes. They were preceded by the Chantels, the Chiffons, the Shirelles, the Crystals, the Marvelettes, Martha & the Vandellas the Dixie Cups, the Bobettes and the great Roni Spector and the Ronettes. No femal groups that I've heard since can be added to this list. Great, great harmonies and great songs.

  • i was lucky enough to be dancing in the park thu the years when this song was the song of the year!!

  • I have taped a few of these doowoop shows. I just love it.

  • GOD, What Pipes This Woman Has!!

We LOVE You ARLENE......This Music Will Live Forever!!

  • real talent, unlike most of the girls of today's music

  • Arlene keep blowing. You are the best!

  • I love The Chantels! Wish there was some video from the 50s. Still sounding great! You girls should go back to that church now and do a recording again, or a whole concert. The acoustics in there were magical. Thanks for this great song.

  • what a beautiful Song! and Arlene is just AMAZING.

  • MAFIA 2 brought me here. nice song :)

  • ARLENE, I AM SO BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO HEAR YOUR MAGNIFICENT VOICE. This song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.

  • F.Y.I. THERE IS NO SUCH FUNERAL HOME IN EAST RUTHERFORD NJ. ALSO THERE ARE NO OBITUARY;S FOR ARLENE SMITH THE SINGER. IF YOUR POST WAS A JOKE IT SUCK'S.......

  • @ILIGANO DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU GOT YOUR INFO ON ARLENE SMITH IT'S NOT....

  • Believe it or not this woman helped create music today

  • No one can ever touch this woman's voice. She sang that song when she was 16 and I cruised to it when I was 17-21 myself. She is an icon! Love it!

  • She's fabulous!! I love this... it always gives me chills.

  • its a shame music aint this way anymore

  • These ladies absolutely kick ass!

  • What a beautiful voice. Never get tired of hearing this song.

  • I almost begin to cry...

  • she is amazeing :)) just love her song

  • Maybe was part of my innocence.... The song guided me during my youth.... it introduced me to emotions....

  • i love this song

  • What a great oldie, she still can hit those hi notes what a voice. The chantels are the best female group of Doo Wop. They just don't make music the way they use to. Todays music cannot even come close to our Doo Wop days. Doo Wop has the best love songs, todays music just cannot compare. I give the chantels a 5* .

  • Mafia 2!

  • That's when people knew how to sing! So Powerful and so rich!

  • WOW she stillhits those notes Bravo!!!!!!Love this song!!!!!

  • Still kickin it

  • You still got it!

    Love;

    Richard

  • So good to see this. I agree with BBOY73 that Arlenes voice reached every corner. Top marks to Chantels and Arlene for this great live recorded performance. The song belongs them them and all of us. My thanks for the upload and youtube. Enjoy.

  • The time we had REAL female singers. Arlene you are still FANTASTIC! I love you..

  • i am gettinbg goosenips...

  • wow still as powerful all those years later...

  • what a voice

  • Awesome!! I get goosebumps whenever I listen to this timeless song. The one and only Ms. Arlene Smith

  • Is this her natural voice? Or does she normally sing in a lower register?

  • gives me chills every time. especially towards the end!

  • i agree with you .. goose pimple city... One ov the best voices ov the 50s ....Timeless

  • arlene sang this to me sitting on a couch when I backed her up in a Long Island night club many years ago along with a bunch of other stuff Imagine sitting face to face and listening to her fantistic.........

  • Unbelievable

  • Still sounds great and sexy bring it on lassie

  • Is it me or does Arlene's voice reach every corner of this theater? This is how you create a song that's remembered half a century later.

  • @BBOY73 No. She still has it after all this time. One powerful voice. : )

  • @BBOY73 My thoughts exactly

  • This original sounds good, but I believe The Three Degrees tore this up. The lead singer of that group can absolutely blow! Check it out and see.

  • Her voice brings tears to my eyes, magnificent now as it was, just fantastic, nothing and no one today can compare to her.

  • So bloody amazing. Wow. Just wow.

  • One of the best if not the best of Our Time....

  • just watched the xfactor, compared to this none of it deserves to be called music. Thank god we have youtube so music like this lives on.

  • beautiful!!!!! classic!

  • i was just checking this song out because john frusciante from the red hot chili peppers does a cover on their live @ slane castle dvd , and i wanted to know what the original sounded like... original is awesome

  • goose bumps all over my body...

  • gotta love this! so much emotion in her voice... Thank you Arlene and the Chantels! :D

  • fabulous....she is still the greatest.

  • And the new generation listen to Justin Bieber, what a joke...

  • @laggar28 Why is that name always mentioned in the comments for such great songs? Why is there always a comparison with that little piece of shit? Can't we just love the music and don't think about the wanna be singer with a name I'm not going to mention? Thank you so much.

  • @M8T12B93 yeh fucking justin bieber woo

  • One of the saddest love songs ever recorded.

  • This woman's voice is the reason i LOVED this song then & still LOVE it now !!!!

Without question, one of the all time GREATEST songs, ever.....................

To think she was so young when the group recorded this song, it's just mind-blowing.

THIS is music, this and all the great songs of late 50s, through the amazing 60s and into the 70s.

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT VIDEO

  • They make a big fuss about young singers but there have always been young people with extreme talent. Arlene Smith was 13 when she recorded this, Maureen Gray was singing at 12. I love talent.

  • I get choked up with the first note.

  • Oh man, MAYBE! I played that song "EVERY NIGHT". What is so amazing besides the Chantels were considered about the coolest thing going...... Was how 'highly romantic' that whole period was........it was all in the lyrics and they really sang back then!

  • The problem with todays music is it can't compete with this! Thank you so much for this upload!
