The reverse side or b side of this record was "They Took My Brother Away But I'm All Right" or something like that, not the backward recording of side a....I don't think I am mistaken. I had the record in 1966.
Whenever it came on the car radio us kids clamored to mom and dad to not turn it off. Finally my older brother took me to the store to buy the 45 and it cost all of 63 cents with tax- I had saved up the deposits from pop bottles that I had collected.
I found this 45 about ten years ago in a box of 45's at a junk shop. I got the thing for a quarter because I loved the fact that the label on the back was a mirrored image of the front label. It has since become one of my favorite 45's ever!
@1787dude I know what they're thinking. Most people that are in A mental institution think they are sane and are denying them self to think otherwise.
I remember hearing this about 10 years ago on the local oldies radio station. Scared the crap out of me at the time because it was later at night (around 11pm) and they tossed this on. I love it, though!
@thechessstick I heard that there was some fear that it might push people who were already a bit shaky over the edge. It fell from #3 to #5 in one week, #5 to #37 in the next week. It peaked just after the Texas Tower massacre, so people must have been getting a little nervous.
I remember the big thing was it was supposed to contain a satanic message on the flip side because of it being backwards.oh well...I was 16 then

This is from 1966?
Wow... I always pictured 1966 as a boring, dull time. (Also, a more conservative, fearing time.) But now...
1966 is badass!

It was taken off the radio in the 60s because of protests, so it'd actually be more accempted now.
quixoticnostalgic 2 years ago
This song was actually removed from the airways in 1966 believe it or not. It would have been a number one hit if it hadn't been pulled.
