  • I remember the big thing was it was supposed to contain a satanic message on the flip side because of it being backwards.oh well...I was 16 then

  • The reverse side or b side of this record was "They Took My Brother Away But I'm All Right" or something like that, not the backward recording of side a....I don't think I am mistaken. I had the record in 1966.

    Nick

  • @nickandmikec I had the full size LP and the B side had Josephine's response "I'm glad they took you away"

  • I had this one

  • Hard to find? As of right now there's several on ebay.

  • They're coming to take me away as well. The men in white coats are here. Heeeelllllppppp meeeeeee

  • Whenever it came on the car radio us kids clamored to mom and dad to not turn it off. Finally my older brother took me to the store to buy the 45 and it cost all of 63 cents with tax- I had saved up the deposits from pop bottles that I had collected.

  • I have this same exact song on loony tunes 25 Greatest Hits

  • @adz929 lolz it is a very scary song. It still freaks me out. I heard it in the 90's. I had no idea it was so old. ;)~ he he ha ha ho ho.

  • I was 7! My Mom would sing it. I now have a long lasting impression. Those were the good old days!

  • The opening drum beat is IDENTICAL to Bob Dylan's " Rainy Day Women #'s 12 & 25 " ( Everybody must get stoned )

  • THIS SONG USED TO SCARE ME SO MUCH

  • I was like 7 when I first heard this song? ILOVE IT

  • They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!!!!

  • I found this 45 about ten years ago in a box of 45's at a junk shop. I got the thing for a quarter because I loved the fact that the label on the back was a mirrored image of the front label. It has since become one of my favorite 45's ever!

  • This is from 1966?

Wow... I always pictured 1966 as a boring, dull time. (Also, a more conservative, fearing time.) But now...

    1966 is badass!

  • i wonder what mentally ill people think when they hear this.

  • Comment removed

  • @1787dude I know what they're thinking. Most people that are in A mental institution think they are sane and are denying them self to think otherwise.

  • A firm Seopard family favourite...............

  • Dr Demento!

  • I loved this as a kid

  • I remember hearing this about 10 years ago on the local oldies radio station. Scared the crap out of me at the time because it was later at night (around 11pm) and they tossed this on. I love it, though!

  • Napoleon XIV was radio disc jockey Jerry Samuels.

  • If it came out that long ago, does that mean I might not be able to find it?

  • This song scared the sh*t out of me as a child when I saw it on the telly

  • 1966: Cool Jerk, Hanky Panky, The Happening, and They're Coming to Take me Away. What a great year!!!!!

  • The white coats are coming...the white coats are coming....brandishing their strait-jackets!!!!!! AAAAHHH!!!!!

  • lol 4 song

    nice record

  • please post the reverse side too !!!

  • Wow really wish that I had keep my 33 1/3s and 45s.

  • How do you get all these records? You are awesome!

  • this would be politically incorrect now.........ah, those simpler times are gone and never to return

  • There has never been simpler times....

  • It was taken off the radio in the 60s because of protests, so it'd actually be more accempted now.

  • This song was actually removed from the airways in 1966 believe it or not. It would have been a number one hit if it hadn't been pulled.

  • @thechessstick I heard that there was some fear that it might push people who were already a bit shaky over the edge. It fell from #3 to #5 in one week, #5 to #37 in the next week. It peaked just after the Texas Tower massacre, so people must have been getting a little nervous.

  • NICE!

  • Sensational.

  • I have like 9 or 12 record players how much do you want for it!

  • Very good posting. I heard this sometime in the mid-1970s somehow as a kid. Way before MTV, I might add.

  • I had this record in the early 70's. The reverse side played the song backwards. Does yours? If it does I'd like to hear it. Thanks

  • .sdrawkcab yalp seod ti seY

  • @11191066 If it is possible could you put the other side of the record on your channel. I would like to hear what it sounds like backwards. Thanks.

  • @pourawayminehost it was in reverse

  • It's not a rare record - probably $3 to $6 depending on condition.

  • Whoever thought that a song about mental illness could become such a suprise hit?

  • @DJJamminC

    Hmm mmm.

  • The b- side is played backwards, and even stranger--ha! Ha! a great classic!

  • my mom told me its a satantic message

  • OMG I just read your comment and I see my view is No:666

Spooky..... ANd number one in 1966...

Oh no there coming to take me away.....ha ha
