The only thing I do different is I explode from my left leg. He post up from his right leg. I was taught to split my guys leg with my right leg then swing my left around and push off with it.
@whitepeppers1 Wrestlers have strong necks. We have a drill we use to strengthen our necks, which is just putting our hands behind our back and having a partner try to pull our heads down (which you resist against, obviously.) And of course we do neck-bridges. Which is just a bridge, but doing it with your neck. You can also do a neck bridge to do a drill which is for when someone's on you.
What variant do you recommend for shooting the double on concrete? You don't want to crack your kneecap by planting your kneecap on concrete, asphalt,or whatever that's not as forgiving as the mat is.I have my own variant which simply doesn't place the knee on the ground, but what do you recommend?
@blastdouble10 Yes.There are maaaany ways to enter a double without touching the knee to the ground.Thevariants are only as limited as your functonal training imagination is,although the end result is the same. The number of variants depends on how you train to enter the double, and since I'm NOT a wrestling specialist? I like to know what coaches of KOLAT's caliber thinks.
@darklord220 I do of course do this. But there are specific methods that coaches of KOLAT's caliber use or suggest as principles to work from. You can change levels or not.You can use a G-R shot and take him with a upper body clinch. But thank you for the suggestion,I very much appreciate it.
@ATACXGYM I wouldn't use a double in a fight; unless it was someone I knew I could easily handle... You are better off going into a clinch and looking for a throw.
@ATACXGYM None wrestlers can be trained to stop a shot... but you are not beating me from the clinch unless you are a top caliber wrestler. If I scramble into a double from there, well fine, but I don't want to shoot an outside shot because it is too vulnerable to strikes and sprawls.
@ChickityChoice I tend to strike my way into double legs a la GSP...and since I'm an experienced striker and subgrappler with pretty good timing,I don't have that much problems with shooting as a counter to a strike or in the midst of a striking combo.I would think, however, that most people on the street have zero chance of stopping a double...just keep your knees off the concrete. If the person is experienced? You gotta set the double up or catch them with a sweet counter to drop them
@ATACXGYM It's just my experience man... if you think you could make it work go for it... I used my double plenty when I trained MMA, and although it worked most of the time; I had even better success from the clinch. Good luck.
@ChickityChoice thank you very much chickity, and I'm glad to know that you tried your hand at MMA too man.No disrespect intended at all.I appreciate your words and your opinion and your experience.
You can do that, and my coach actually recommends that you don't even land on your knee; the faster you get off the ground, the better chance of a takedown you have.
You could also try a blast double, which doesn't require you to shoot on your knee.
@BlurfSmurf I never heard of a blast double until just now. I teach my self-defense students and clients to shoot without touching their knee on the ground...but what's a blast double?
There's some links on Youtube on how to do a Blast-Double. It's essentially a much more explosive form of a double-leg takedown, where you place your head into the defensive person's solar-plexus and drive from there.

@ATACXGYM I wouldn't suggest adhering to straight wrestling principles in an arena of concrete :D
