After the battle of Stalingrad, Russia was winning the war. The battle of Kursk was the last major battle operation for the Germans. After this battle Germany was on the defensive and continued to lose nearly every battle until the end of the war against the Russians. Even if the US stayed out of the war, Russia would have eventually took Berlin but they would have sustained more casualties and it probably would have been pushed back to sometime in 1946.
I think all those who took part in this great battle - greatest amour battle in history should be great full to providence for such honor. Be they German or Soviets those who died did so as heroes those who lived through it know they went through Hell and made it. Glory to the brave soldiers who took part in this historic battle!!!
The turning point in east happened when Luftwaffe had to pull majority of it's fighters to Reich, West and Italy. After Zitadelle about 2/3 of Luftwaffe dayfighters were against US 8th Air Force. In October 43 only about 400 serviceable fighters were in whole long eastern front. In may 1944 about 1200 Luftwaffe fighters were Germany, Holland and Denmark.
In june 1944 Luftwaffe got only about 40 serviceable fighters n Belo Russia.
Battle of Kursk is a myth. It took less than two weeks and was big mess. Casualties on both sides were much smaller thant "Great Patriotic War" legend are arguing. In fact Germans had only 1081 tanks and 376 "sturm-types" ready on 3rd of july for Zitadelle, total 1457. Not 2700 as conventional wisdom is arguing. Losses of Soviet were hardly even 85 000 while germans lost 27 000 before Hitler stopped. And why? Because Italy fell down in knees and Hitler had to move divisions to Italy.

Soviet tanks under the command of General Rotmistrov drove into a massive anti tank ditch built by Soviet prisoners and the others crashed into each other and burst into flames. The Red Army lost 235 tanks. Khrushchev invented the myth to save Rotmistrov and Stalin accepted the report.
The German army was the most outstanding organisation put together for conquest since the Mongols. The Mongols however were lead by a tactical and strategic genius, whereas the Germans were not - to put it mildly. Hence the Germans ended up simultaneously fighting the British Empire, USSR and USA - a folly unparalleled in world history. It is thus pointless to talk about turning points since this geopolitical fact ensured defeat.

It wasn't so easy, in 1939 Japanese attacked Mongolia but they were defeated by Zukov in a bloody battle, so they were scared to face again Ussr cause the weakness of their infantry and armours in open field, more the principal threat was Usa cause oil embargo and the aim of empire was on the pacific more than in Siberia, the army was busy in China and all they wanted use all energies in the fleet

I don't know what you have been reading but if you know something, Hitler delayed operation Zitadelle, as germans called it, because he promised more troops which weren't important at this case. It was Hitler's mistake. When germans had great situation to win this battle, Hitler stopped the attack. He wanted to relocate troops from these attack troops to Italy. Russians would have lost this battle if Hitler wouldn't have been an idiot.

actually he delayed the attack because Hitler was waiting for the Tiger tank to be finished and deployed for the Kursk attack.
This gave time for the Russians to cement their defenses. Plus the Russians knew where the Germans were striking....that is a big plus for the Russians knowing "when, where, and how strong."
Military maxim, "when all else is equal, the advantage favors the defender."

Yes he did, Hitler wanted to bring Tiger tanks as you said but also Panther- and Ferdinand tanks. Tanks weren't ready for fight, they had smaller or bigger problems. After the lost of Harkova, russian troops were "weak". German commanders knew than and wanted to attack against them immediately and crush them. When Hitler deleyed the attack and gave russian chance to reinforcement: men, tanks everything. It was a huge mistake. By the way russians didn't know that where germans were striking.

Even after delaying, german troops were close to victory. Hitler didn't understand how important this fight was. He didn't give enough troops and what was his biggest mistake, he canceled it in critical moment.
Germans fought this battle extremely well. If you watch losses: total losses for russians: 85 000, germans: 20 720. Russian's dead: 17 000, germans 3 330.

Even if Germans attacked Kursk earlier the result would be the same. The Blitzkrieg techniques simply became obsolete by that time. Self propelled artillery killed the comcept.
Russians had a second plan in case they could not hold their positions. To tactically withdraw in the middle and to crush Germans from flanks. Germans simply did not realized that war has changed and required new approach.

Kursk was first Eastern Front battle where German forces failed to achieve significant breakthrough using blitzkrieg tactics. Also first instance of serious challenge to Lutwaffe by Russian fighters and first a major ppearance of the formidable Stormovik. ground attack aircraft.

I do not know to whom you are yelling like this, but please do keep certain things in perspective: 1) 9 out of 10 german soldiers were killed on the eastern front. 2) For every US casualty (aproximately 260 thousand, on all fronts, including the pacific) at least 100! Russians died. (Approximately 30 to 50 million) Now, do I tell you this in order to make you love Stalin? Off course not! Without Stalin,and all his misstakes, War in Russia would have lasted far shorter than it did in the 40's

It took two countries- Russia and the US to beat Germany, either one of them were at least equal militarily (granted Russia took a couple years to catch up) and both were far superior industrially to Germany. Germany was out produced and strategically screwed from the beginning.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not downplaying the sacrifices the brave people of all the Allied countries made- but without US/USSR they would not have won- without their allies, US/USSR would still have won. After the battle of Stalingrad, Russia was winning the war. The battle of Kursk was the last major battle operation for the Germans. After this battle Germany was on the defensive and continued to lose nearly every battle until the end of the war against the Russians. Even if the US stayed out of the war, Russia would have eventually took Berlin but they would have sustained more casualties and it probably would have been pushed back to sometime in 1946.

The turning point in east happened when Luftwaffe had to pull majority of it's fighters to Reich, West and Italy. After Zitadelle about 2/3 of Luftwaffe dayfighters were against US 8th Air Force. In October 43 only about 400 serviceable fighters were in whole long eastern front. In may 1944 about 1200 Luftwaffe fighters were Germany, Holland and Denmark.
In june 1944 Luftwaffe got only about 40 serviceable fighters n Belo Russia.

Battle of Kursk is a myth. It took less than two weeks and was big mess. Casualties on both sides were much smaller thant "Great Patriotic War" legend are arguing. In fact Germans had only 1081 tanks and 376 "sturm-types" ready on 3rd of july for Zitadelle, total 1457. Not 2700 as conventional wisdom is arguing. Losses of Soviet were hardly even 85 000 while germans lost 27 000 before Hitler stopped. And why? Because Italy fell down in knees and Hitler had to move divisions to Italy.

good point-The battle of Prochorovka was a myth. Soviet tanks under the command of General Rotmistrov drove into a massive anti tank ditch built by Soviet prisoners and the others crashed into each other and burst into flames. The Red Army lost 235 tanks. Khrushchev invented the myth to save Rotmistrov and Stalin accepted the report.

The German army was the most outstanding organisation put together for conquest since the Mongols. The Mongols however were lead by a tactical and strategic genius, whereas the Germans were not - to put it mildly. Hence the Germans ended up simultaneously fighting the British Empire, USSR and USA - a folly unparalleled in world history. It is thus pointless to talk about turning points since this geopolitical fact ensured defeat.

Maybe so. But the Russians displayed the most courageous patriotism and love for the nation than anybody else before.

They saved the German Army on the Eastern Front on many occasions. If Hitler had formed thirty more SS divisions in 1941-42, he would have won the war.The german soldier were simply outnumbered by too many enemies.Anyway the bottom line is at an 1 :1 scale any army in the world would have been no match for the german troops( especially for the the SS shock troops like SS-Totenkopfdivision, SS-Viking or Waffen SS.They were the best and bravest, but simply outnumbered on several fronts.

Germany was not as capable as Russia to resupply troops and equipment hence the Soviet victory. Germany was fighting on many fronts.

IF germany wasnt fighting on any fronts, other then russia, would they have had been able to push the soviet back? I would think so, since it took so long to push germany back out again, while everything was spread so thin. Shame they lost, I wish I could speak german. :(

Yeah, Germany would have probably beat the Soviets if it hadn't made so many enemies.
