  • I can't think of any other way of saying it

  • 9 people can stand up...

  • Eye scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

  • @strummeresque Haha there's no ,,eye" but ,,I.": I scream, you scream, we all scream..;)

  • An amazing singer however looks like he's got somekinda palsey goin on there

  • he is a king of music !

  • 8 people are fucking idiiots!

  • @bluevalentine9 Geez. If that's your opinion, keep it to yourself.

  • @Tedminat0r Geez, sorry if I hurt your feelings, Tedminat0r. Must've been full of bourbon when I wrote that comment.

  • @bluevalentine9 Even if i agree, i don't think Tom would approve <:D

  • What I love about Mr. Waits is that he doesn't play for other people he plays for himself. To all the greatest artists their art form is a hobby, with which they made money, got famous and had brilliant lives. Hopefully we all get that satisfaction.

  • I have a drug dealer who sells me a specific kind of weed. Its called waits...Its hard to get used to at first. Once you've tried it though...there isnt anything like it.

  • @markmarktarmanni " brawlers, babes bastards." painful to listen to . his voice is so rough, somehow much harsher sounding than before., w/o the same control

(how it got any rougher without self destructing is another mystery). i am serious. he could lose it entirely if he's not careful. progression from "ol 55" thru the end of the 70's those tours and that louis armstrong thing expanded his sound, but imagine the nodes on his vocal chords.i think he should protect what he's got left.

  • @markmarktarmann Yeah, maybe he has lost a bit of control, sp on some of the slower ballads... But on the other hand, his growl isn't as strained or artificial-sounding as it was on the 70's IMHO... And he seems to be on better voice on the Bad As Me album. Besides, some people can sustain an insane amount of vocal punishment. I mean look at Brian Johnson, for God's sake!

  • i like joe bonamassa's version better...YEA I SAID IT!

  • This inspired the theme tune to Black Books I like to believe....

  • awesome

  • Its like if the monster that was under my bed when I was chlid, grown and started to sing in bars then I found him, and I liked it

the most amazing voice for a monster!! =D

  • Very much prefer the original.

  • :D:D:D

  • i want the kick drum of his drummer so bad!

  • the first time i heard this brillant

  • somebody didn't pre-engineer sound very well. I love this guy.

  • when he dress's like a bum it gives me hope. ....... in a strange way..

  • We r not winos - we bourbonos

  • 7 people drank to much bourbon and fell off a cliff

  • @mulder19x95 shut up

  • @weirdo033 you shut up. it was a joke.

  • hes like a loveable satan!

  • I've never heard music from Tom Waits before but

GOD DAMN IT WAS AWESOME!!! xD

  • LOL!!! hell yea! this song is fucking awesome!

  • Bone machine dancin his ass off

amen i hope he stays around for a long long long long tim.......e

  • It's not to my taste as I prefer the rock version. To me this sounds just a tad too much like a jazz band and a heavy metal singer xD

  • anyone heard Moxy fruvous' version of this? they do it justice save the "10,000 pack a day" voice.

  • @needusername12 You must like pop. How 'bout you shove it?

  • @LadyeXo No, I love rock n Roll. What is this "music" called?

Btw, "xxxx" implies its not actualty music. Just clearing this up with your because you seem to make assumptions.

  • @needusername12 if you want to know, this is technically vaudeville music

  • @needusername12

That "music" is better than 98% of "rock and roll, wich btw, rock nowadays is pop in his pure conception.

  • Hiccup!) Lee Evans......exceptionatly inebriated!

  • probably better growler than many death metal singers xD

  • @cacoddwarf I wouldn't recommend trying to sing like him though, it really makes your throat sore.

  • @cacoddwarf

    probably?

  • i'm not full of bourbon, i'm full of rum, but this song still kicks major ass!

  • @blacksabbathgnr098 or whiskey

  • Tom waits jest wspaniały.Muszę to przyznać.Ale poznałem Go dzięki Kazikowi.howgh.

  • The greatest

  • he's been dancing the same way for about 4 decades and it never gets old. i could watch him dance forever.

  • omfg this is awesome. he never disappoints.

  • A true genius, one of a kind!! I've loved him since the early 70s!!

  • Gotta love that stomp

  • ...i f'ing love Tom Waits and was overjoyed when i heard Joe's cover... it's a great blues interpretation of an already awesome song...

  • so true

  • kind of buzz

  • this is an awesome song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i also heard joe bonamassa's cover a few days ago and i think he really covered it!!! he made a blues version of the song and didn't t try to be heard like Tom ( thank god,Tom is only one)

  • We don't do "crack" around here. We're Bourbon people!

  • @SgtBastard101 DAMN RIGHT! people need to learn respect....

  • @marksmanpret Yes they fuckin' do! This is TOM,not the flavor of the month!

  • am i right in guessing you are a primus fan

  • hahaHA! Yes,among many things!

  • @SgtBastard101 we're full of bourbon anyway .....

  • @SgtBastard101

Yes we most certainly bourbon people...its like TOOL has their followers who might worship them...but tom made me start drinking bourbon..

  • @jordanlannert1 he's one of the reasons i pick up smoking as well.

  • probably has been at some time. But coleridge was a doper to ya know! artists just the same.

  • @ jesse4630

This song is from the "Rain Dogs" album and it's "Frank's Wild Years" not "Jack's"

not trying to sound rude...just a correction

  • I first heard Tom Waits in the mid 1970s when "The Piano Has Been Drinking" came out. It got a lot of airplay on WNEW-FM back then. I've been hooked ever since. He's awesome!

  • Does anyone know if a version of this song was recorded with a similar arrangement and 'gruff' voice. I can only find the track on the album "Rain Dogs" and its not like this. I would love to listen to a good quality copy without the cracklyness.

I only discovered this guy the other week (I am sheltered musically) when I heard the track "Walk away" on the end of a prison documentary. Now i'm hooked.

  • i love how he always creats a certain atmosphere when he plays

  • the guitarist is ma-ta

  • Who's the guitarist here?

  • Usually people either love or hate Waits (I love him). But you have to have an open mind. He's in no way traditional. He doesn't so much use his voice to sing as he plays it like another instrument with more valves than you can shake a stick at. He looks and acts like he does because he's similar to others (Bowie, etc.) in that they act how they play when the mood strikes. And all that aside, read his lyrics. Some of the best ever.

  • You said it right. Right on.

  • yep, certainly one of the best around!

  • Tom Waits= the best

  • you are a moron

  • I don't see why his voice is a problem . . . It's like the distortion you get on an electric guitar; it's not as 'clear' as an acoustic guitar but it's all good.

  • This isnt singing? Are ou serious? You got Satyricon in you're favorites, which is screaming.

  • Please try then, and make sure to post a video about it so I can piss myself laughing

  • Really? Just listened to Joe Bonamassa's version and it's awful. Really, really awful. He's taken a great song and made it sound utterly generic

  • Comment removed

  • his singing IS percussion and melody.

and this song proves that music featuring accordion can be badass.

  • shadowofmorgoth: another guy that proves accordion can be badass is the Finnish Kimmo Pohjonen. Be advised it has nothing to do with Tom Waits, but equally cool for the instrument. :D

  • wtf is this xD He sounds scary, but maybe that's the point

  • Bonamossa's version is pretty good... this sounds way creepy

  • ..on the lawn with someone else's wife... lmao!!

  • I can't imagine anyone else "singing" this song. It just wouldn't work.

  • Los Lobos do a great version of this song on their "Covers" album.

  • Joe Bonamassa also has a great cover on The Ballad of John Henry.

  • amazing!

Sometimes waits live performances make songs sound completely new!

  • Is it just me or is Tom Waits the equivalent to an intravenous shot of awesome.

  • Nicely said...

  • Heroin?

P.S. Dont flame me, I love Tom Waits. That just sounds like your describing smack.

  • No, not heroin, just distilled awesome

  • Nah, but I'm guessing that's Alice. ; )

  • @burtonrulez5 No. It is not just you. He's a double shot of RULE!

  • @burtonrulez5 asskisser

  • Comment removed

  • @burtonrulez5 It's not just you... and Tom is the musical equivalent to Charles Bukowski.

  • sta reci JEDINI na svetu

what a say ONLY on a world

  • When I first heard this song, I could only describe it as 'evil shopping music.' Its clearly so much more.

  • diablo pero ritmo tiene ete tipo!

  • i want that hat

  • Hey little man your house is on fire, yeah ... let it burn.

  • I lol'd irl. :D

How piece of shit must be a man like fighterneo1, to say things like this.

  • My previous comment was directed at

    "fighterneo1" aka fucking retard.

  • this guy would've made a great death metal vocalist.

  • Wow, cool cuban flavor to the tune. When I saw him in '98 he played it just like how it is on the album. The guitarist Smokey played Ribot's part perfectly.

  • yo probably only listen to one style of music.... it's cool though.

  • i dont care for him live, but hes one of my favorite musicians and one of the most creative of all time. theres such emotion in his voice, even here

  • Uau! You must be one huge fucking retard. Thrust me I know retards and you just blew up my scale. he thinks he is good? Wanna tell us where you got that from? I could write 40things that would show everyone (and remind you) what an idiot you are, BUT I believe that the best thing to do to someone like you is to ignore. There are so many idiots out there you're just another brick in the wall. When people ignore the likes of you completely you will all disappear.

  • You belive in kid's dreams. Sad.

Tom Waits is legend, extraordinary, creative, and unique performer.

Your Brain is a piece of shit that can't consider different songs then what your closed mind knows.

  • You want him to thrust you?????

  • Ow his voice box must be screaming from pain

  • yes, and so are my eardrums

  • he wasn't screaming though =o

  • he's so great

does he give some live-performances sometimes??

  • are you sure this isn't Vic Reeves doing his club singer routine?

  • Hey, do yourself a favour, ok? Ready? Read less and enjoy life more. Really. I don't say "put your brain to sleep" or anything, but geez man, you're just weird.

  • no ones going to buy your book benny, because smart people take responsibility for their part in "our culture" and dont blame things that cant defend themselves to the countless ignorant comments you have left on every tom waits video on youtube...

  • bennyjail ur a noob so be quiet

  • great performance

  • he has had that voice for many years..

  • no he had not. listen original record of bourbon.

  • you don't think i've heard the original?. the voice in this one, is something he chooses to do.. the original voice is the best on the record, but at a live performance, it's obvious he does this, or else it would sound boring.. yes, his voice has of course evolved to be more trashy. but listen to big black mariah.. it's not exactly the same, but close. and it's from the same album.

  • he doesnt always sing like that. but listen to the compilation "heart attack and vine", he does on quite a few tracks

  • oops, i meant listen to "heart attack and vine" on the compilation "used songs" he sang like this both, before and after the release of the album "rain dogs"
