  • I guess it´s actually Gankakku kata...

  • Yes. The Shotokan version is called Gankaku (crane on a rock) but in Okinawan styles it is (Itosu) Chinto.

  • @txikistrikizz Which came first Okinawa's Chinto or Shotokan's Gankaku? The Kyudokan's lineage is from Yuchoku Higa, the first master of the Kyudokan to Chosin Chibana a peer of Funakoshi to Itosu. The major changes in the kata were made during the start of the JKA. If you watch a Shotokai version, it is more like the above. Please check my channel for Kyan ha Chinto. I would suggest that u call the kata "Chinto"

  • @NewEnglandBudo Thanks for the info. I wonder who made the major changes to this kata, perhaps Nakayama sensei himself?

By the way, Makiko san performs this kata pretty good!

And yes, the more accurate name is Chinto, but remember Funakoshi, as a founder of Shotokan style, rename many of the original kata names.

  • @txikistrikizz Hah, just making you think a bit! It was either Gigo or Nakayama that changed it. Check out the older version on my channel page/ Take care,

  • @NewEnglandBudo

I practiced this version of Chinto as a kobayashi stylist, but the Kyan version, or the Yabu Chinto version, is the oldest version. It predates this and the more modern Gankaku.
