I am so sorry to hear about Cheeto. Our little birdy friends are so special, I know how hard it is to lose one. I've always clipped for fear of an accident like that. Years ago I had a parakeet named Ornery, her wings grew out just enough that a friend forgot she was on her shoulder, walked outside, Ornery caught the wind and was gone. I was very fortunate an hour later we found her down the street 20ft up in a tree. It was pure luck. My heart goes out to you!

thanks so much for your kind words. I know that Chester will be getting his wings clipped as soon as we can get him in to have them done. I don't want to risk doing them myself, but I have found myself being crazy careful until we do.
