Easier way to get Shadow Flare: Equip a Reflect Ring on the character you have with the Enemy Skill materia(s), and have them deal the final blow. Ultimate WEAPON will cast Shadow Flare, but it will reflect back on him, and you'll STILL learn the skill. Better yet, a glitch will cause the boss defeat animation to play TWICE.

Like I said before I always finish off Ultimate Weapon early when he appears after Diamond Weapon is defeated in Disc 2 so I can get Cloud's Ultimate Weapon and learn Shadow Flare. I mean he's there, early, so mind as well get it then.

And this was the point when i stopped following you with the completion of this game. It is utterly frustrating that you edited out the locations of the Ultimate Wapon. After the first fight it escaped, i catched up with it to the snowy mountains (which was ALWAYS its second location), and now it's lost and i am sick of searching. Seriously, a short clip with the locations would have helped.

@timewasterization He didn't edit it...if you happen to deal enough damage to him(which knights of the round will do), he'll just fly to the last location above cosmo canyon(well near it anyhow), but if you don't deal enough, healve leave and you have to find him..that part was interesting to me because i found him while he was still in flight and kept ramming into him lol(which u mentioned in ur second comment)

hahahahahahaha damn wussy kept running away but then i found him in the cosmo area and so i used holy alexander like in the other battles with him and i defeated him and luckily he used shadow flare on vincent so it didnt do nothing to him and he learned the new enemy-skill but because of my incredibly stupid mistake i didnt put the second enemyskillmateria on him from cloud so cloud didnt learn shadow flare that sucks!

There's a great room in the North Cave that changes when you walk out and back in. It has tree roots and some other stuff. You can encounter an enemy called 'Magic Pot', and if you give it an elixir you can kill it for 8000 xp/1000 ap per pot. Coupled with the W-Item dupe method, this is the best grinding spot in the game.

In a previous episode, it looked like it said Flare was a fire elemental spell... which is what it is in Chrono Trigger, but it in every other FF it's non-elemental. I was just thinking about the similarities between Ultimate Weapon and Deathgaze when HC mentioned it..and the fact that Ultimate is a lot easier to find.

I see I'm not the first one to drag a little-used, little-liked, and underleveled character off of the airship for such purposes..though it's usually for those various situations where you need a character to die quickly in a battle to gain an advantage..

Yes and no. Basically, every time you get on or off the airship Doom Gaze moves to a random coordinate on the world map (although I think altitude doesn't matter, so we're only talking x-y coordinates), and will stay there until you land your airship. So, to find Doom Gaze, just slightly tilt your direction and go forward so that you cover every coordinate of the map.

Well, if you're playing the original Japanese release of this game, then no. =P Otherwise, yes. Remember that thing HCBailly saw in the ocean that looked like a green palette swap of Diamond Weapon? That's Emerald Weapon, and that's one of them. Also, if you happened to see some kind of red tail when he flew over the Corel Desert, that would be Ruby Weapon, the other one. Emerald and Ruby are this game's superbosses--i.e. INCREDIBLY hard optional bosses.

Easily Chrono Trigger. It would have probably been FF4, if I had more experience back then, which is why I'm going to redo it with another version of the game someday, as a side LP. FF7 gave CT a run for its money, surprisingly, and FF5-6 will be a blast too. The more I do these, the more fun I'm having with it.

If you want a real challenging time at Final Fantasy IV, try the DS version. Rydia got bumped off by goblins at least 3 times after I got her. And the bosses are much stronger this time around.

no, you dont get it... barrets ultimate weapon relies on how much AP the materia on the weapon slots have. So since underwater materia has an almost unlimited amount, he's saying it would be ideal to equip

i completely get it but between the time u get the materia and by the end of the game u would probably only get enough ap for about 1/3 the amount of ap for an all materia..... who with any amount of iq, would go and waste time trying to actually get it up... its a good 10hrs waste of ur life trying to push barrets weapon to the limit, considering knights of the round summon is strong enough to destroy all the bosses easily...

you'd be surprised how many of us do perfect runs getting everything mastered and getting to lvl 99. you're talking about an rpg, you cant use the argument of wasting time, it almost contradicts the fact that you're sitting there for 40+ hrs with normal gameplay. plus farming magic pots in northern cave gets the job done pretty fast.

Ohh, poor Ultimate Weapon. I have to admit, he was such a cool monster that on my second run I couldn't bear to kill the guy. I figured I could beat the game without Cloud's ultimate weapon anyway. And hey, if Bugenhagen is to be believed, Holy'll wipe everyone out if Meteor doesn't, so no one will mind the rampaging kaiju-sized dragon in the end.
