  • Most under-rated guitarist. Seriously.

  • I'm a huge fan of hers...blew up my Facebook with love for her music when Actor came out!! This video is awesome.

  • she somewhat reminds me of snow white. like a cool, chilled snow white. and with a guitar

  • this woman is fantastic, that nico cover she does, and paris is burning in this session is ace

  • I want to make love to the outer ends of her top eyelids, the (for want of a better word) "evil" they produce is intoxicating. What shame over the years she tuned (yes, tuned) her music to the commercial regurgitator.

  • she's a one-woman army

  • ummm....i think im in love..

  • love her!

  • She knows how to use the octaves.

  • that audience is frightening

  • @JonGonZyb it looks like they're at the wrong place or something. most uncomfortable audience ever.

  • how does she get that bass guitar sound ? i mean, it sounds like she's playing bass and guitar at the same time. she amazes me.

  • is that a lighted bird cage in the corner??

  • Hawh...Hawh...Hawh...

  • Your right about it being a fender but it's not a strat it's a telecaster

  • @radshad02 sorry, i'm a jackson guy.

  • mm mm mm! annie where ya been gurl!?

  • wich model of guitar is she playing?

  • @MXCelis looks like a fender strat single humbucker. usa

  • She is something else. This song didn't hit me till today and damn is it hitting hard. Genius.

  • this made me just buy her album on itunes

  • I love her. Musical genius.

  • Annie can fucking shred itttttttt.

  • I'm amazed that she can play guitar, tap a beat onto a pad, and sing, all at the same time. I feel less than useless.

  • I find boring her alubms, but i like so much her performances.

  • @CEIVE4EVER Live performances > her albums

  • : ¬{=)

    Incredible....

  • WOW!!!!

    She is a Firecracker!!

this is what I would describe as modern folk art.

    It's not 'post'-anything or 'proto'-genre..

    Really vibrant stuff!

  • again mega !!

  • genius, pure genius

  • She raises the bar on so many different levels it's crazy!

  • she is so amazing live

  • want mp3!!!! weehheeehhh!!

  • y was no one in that crowd getting down. what losers

  • I'm hearing Jeff Buckley, Sketches for...

  • Funny, I hear Steve Hackett, early Genesis

  • Now, she's a delightful bit of chaos. isn't she... ?

  • perfectly put

  • Zappa, Hendrix, and "rockin in the free world" Neil Young. GREAT STUFF.

  • I love that fuzz guitar sound. That's the guitar sound I go for when I play and is reminicent of late 60s fuzz.

  • The breakdowns summon Zappa in drag... But this ain't Zappa. Long live the Saint!

  • Angelic!

  • this song reminds me of Gentle Giant.

  • What sound effects? all her music has straight instruments: wind instruments, horns, guitar, drums, synth

  • I actually like the studio version of this better, but when it comes to "Paris is Burning", I prefer the live versions.

  • in a way, she reminds me a lot of jeff buckley in the way her live performances are set so far apart from what you hear on the record and in some ways much more powerful. I love this video!

  • I agree with the Jeff Buckley reference. Kind of like a combination of Jeff bickley with Bjork, but wholly original and with a vision of her own. And a vision of beauty too. She's very beautifulll.

  • annie clark is a fucking genius,. seriuosly, every "musician" could do themselves a huge favor by taking a page from her book.

  • uh, whaaat? lol what do yo mean by taking a page from her book?

  • @eriakg0316 you've gravely overstated her ability to write compelling songs. This happens to be one of her better ones and yet when she sings something written by Jackson Browne... "these days" it's much more compelling. She's often close but not there. We are just taken by her beauty and ability to manipulate a guitar while weighing 89 lbs...

  • @harybosco The songs are in two different styles, "These Days" and "Your Lips Are Red". And maybe Jackson Browne's song is more compelling to you, but you can't assume it is for everyone. Its a classic and so yeah, its very good. But, this song is much more inventive and idiosyncratic while still retaining a good song structure. And your last sentence was just plain rude.

  • @harybosco I definitely enjoy "Your Lips" more. I had no clue what she looked like when I heard it... or that she was even playing the guitar. This version sounds a little kooky though haha, it's much easier to hear the notes on the album one.

  • Doing myself a big favor, I'm going to see her play live :)

  • That's hilarious. She does seem a little precious, but ACTOR is a great record. Can't stop playing it. Looking forward to more from her.

  • Yes, I agree that's what music is about...blinking.

  • @ ashdyfd1; I've seen you in the hood giving BJs for hits on a crack pipe. Too bad your other talents never panned out.

  • i saw her live two nights ago. was fucking amazing. she is so much better live, her music has so much more intensity and power, also its more unpredictable.

  • God I love Annie's music! I searched all over town until I finally found a copy of Marry Me but I like these live versions of her songs SO much more. Is there any way I can buy a copy of the Dumbo Sessions online? That would be awesome!

    Thanks in advance.

  • she was fantastic live

    oxegen high point!

  • i hae when peopel start comparing singers because they are females saying whos better or what not.. Just listen to the music

  • Amazing. After watching this and the Paris is burning clip with just a acoustic guitar, I bought Marry me and Actor. Both of which are phenomenal.

  • at the end when the camera zooms down, theres the loop pedal I just bought ahahaha makes me feel better about my choice that I see someone like her using it to do those ghostly overdubs

  • amazing has never been a more apt word.

  • that 2nd mic is pretty cool

  • a crafty guitarist- she's in the league!

  • Fuck, if she put out a live album I'd buy it in a second. And I usually don't like live stuff as much. Definitely someone I'd want to go out and see. The girl can shred!

  • oh mannnn! I love St. Vincent but I wish her performances were more like the songs on the album...she's very creative though!

  • This song reminds Montys Loco , a great swedish band. =)

  • M.E. in love......cold as ice

  • BEAUTIFUL EYES!

  • ya i also like this much more than the recording. girl is such a gnarly guitar player.

  • i agree, her live versions are much better, i wish she would sell them on i tunes. she does not sing like michael stipe, or pj harvey, she sings like the girl from damien rice's first two albums

  • Lisa Hannigan, and i disagree

  • ok i'll keep your denial in mind.

  • Yeah, Lisa has a deeper, maybe smokey-er voice than annie. Both are good, but I think they are very different

  • she's a bit pj harvey vocally.. mixed with... who's the dude from REM?

  • Whats that stomp box she's playing with her foot and where ca i get one?

  • This chick is awesome! I'm currently listening to her and Jeff Buckley and they're both fantastic!

  • Fantastic !

    A one-woman Radiohead - more please !

  • I like the little break-down.

  • the dis-chord thing where she is pounding her foot and going haaaa into the microphone....is that what your talking about

  • Yeah, the little riff she plays too. It reminds me of creepier early Peter Gabriel songs. I like creepy.

  • ma quanto spigneeeeee!!!!!!!

  • somehow i can hear interpol doing a cover of this.

  • I like this a LOT more than the studio version. Her songs are usually really overproduced on the album, but they're great live; especially when it's just her.

  • what is that that's she's kicking on?

  • You'd have to be a crazy genius to make your chorus exhales. Not to mention the wonderful guitar skills she has.

What is the name of the microphone she sings into attached to the normal kind?

  • i think thats a condenser mic

  • God, what a talented musician Annie is... I love the live version...I love the studio version...both equally. Can't wait for future recordings. Bravo!

  • Such an original guitar sound... love it

  • damn i jsut fell inlove with this gal

  • jmy favorite part is when she says your skins so fair its not fair. absolutely amazing!

  • I just got chills

  • wow it just astounds me how hung up everyone these days (meaning always) is on who listens to the music that they listen to. For instance there is some dick down there spouting off about the dumb indie kids and such. I listen to grindcore in addition to stuff like this and I hear people all the time spouting off about it's "scene kid" following and all the time I'm kinda like "does that effect how the music sounds?" I didn't think so.

  • Exactly. I mostly listen to rock and metal, but stuff like this is intriguing. The bottom line is that if it sounds good, it is.

  • Yeah. I try to listen to as many genres as possible, from indie folk to death/black metal.

  • it'd be awesome if she recorded an album that sounded more like this live performances, i like her better without the "marry me" musical production

    mm just saying

  • Yeah her live sound is loads cooler that the record in my opinion. When see plays with the full band it sounds amazing!

  • hello.. im trully amazed' this is great!

the album sounds like a brodway show soundtrack. the dumbo session sounds like something id like to hear traveling through space..:+)

  • I don't like city grafiti,

  • so much more awesome than the studio version. the crowd doesn't seem to give a shit, though.

  • How could you say that? They're obviously speechless or dumbstruck by Annie's talent. Don't be so negative. This music is too great for any such comment's like that.

  • Maybe so. But I myself would react in a groovier way... at least to this song.

  • Err...have you ever been to an indie music concert before?

  • Stand up, look aloof, sway a little to show you actually two shits to whatever you're listening but not too much, mind you (you don't want to look like the designated drunk party chick) - seriously, what fucking dumb standards.

  • They look pretty dumbfounded. I'd be, too.

  • fuck indie kids.

  • No way.

  • YES WAY! *air solo*

  • that looks like a damn tricky song to play live

    she does it really well.

better than the version on marry me methinks.

  • WOW It is a good song, I like more the second time so that I have an Idea of whats going on.

  • i like this song so much better live than the version on marry me

and the thing is, is that i usually like most people better live

  • Awesome song!

    Much Love, And Many((((Hugs))))

    Sheryl:)

  • nevermind. i just watched it again. i take it all back. had to imagine what might be possible in the studio. this probably just isnt a good song to play solo.

  • It's amazing ont he album, I am not a big fan of this live version...

  • That little solo part is very hard to play live. In the studio it is a combination of keys and such. She does it incredibly here.

  • amazing.

annie rocks, and plays better then a lot the sad excuses for female musicians out there.

  • Can't find her new album darn it.

  • Fascinating performer. Buy her new album, it's great. :)

  • Holy shit that jazz thing at 1:25 or so came out of nowhere. Awesome

  • wow, I didnt know she was such a good guitar player. You don't see alot of great female guitarists. Hendrixesque even.

  • Brilliant

  • Wow, famous, greatly voice-colour

  • if she looked like tad doyle you would not like it

  • the way her eyes bug...it's so artistic it makes my esophagus ache

  • She meant to say Donald instead of John on mary me. I love her.

  • wow! that was great.

where can i get one of those things she was stepping on?

  • a foot? dawg you probably got two of yer own. look down and get happy!

  • I don't know why everyone is thumbs downing this. I thought it was funny.

    I gave him a thumbs up. :-)

  • i love my gay granny.

  • An effects pedal? Go to a music shop.

  • Hot performance, and she's beautiful to boot!

  • some of the best 5 minutes of my life. Thanks

  • Amazing! Another great artist on Beggars Banquet!

  • HM! She good!

  • I like the Pj agressiveness. The minor recending chords don't hurt. Sexy.

  • lol. I like Pj. I like the minor riffs this wonder unfolds.

  • My mom is not Jeff Buckley but this was cool, can't

wait to see StVincent with Scout Niblett on the same

    bill.

  • What voice?!!!!

  • This song is incredible. May she record dozens of records.

  • Saw her live in Vancouver, she was awesome!

  • Saw her open for the Arcade Fire concert.. she was really great. Too bad her next show in Vancouver is not an all ages show.

  • evidently Jeff Buckley Lives

  • Jeff Buckley? I don't see the similarities.

  • Listen to "Sketches for my sweetheart the drunk" (unrealeased final album)

It is sparse and raw, crowded with angelic voice and lots of guitar- very similar, very good. I think Jeff would dig St. Vincent

  • Cool, I'll check it out. I haven't heard anything from the unreleased album.

  • evidently pj harvey lives lol

  • i love this; poetry
