My beloved soulmate called me one night when I was truly depressed and told me to go out on the porch and look up. He played this song, and it became "ours" - He died in 1990 but this remains "our" song - I play it tonight for him - my beloved Garry.........
I know. I do have a good life now and I am grateful for all - - a loving close family, a home, food, so much I have. I also realize Garry & I shared a love to few ever know - and even in death we are not parted in heart. Once in awhile my heart reaches out to him with this song and after a few minutes I remember all he taught me and realize he still lives because of what I learned from him. Mostly he taught me how to Hope, and how to Love. Thank you for your comment -
it just sorta means that someone always has someone to think of before they go to bed. like... somewhere out there, there will always be someone who thinks of you, because you're special to them in some way.
Great classic duert. Pairing a female country singer and a male soul/gospel singer seems like a great formula (if done right). It worked very well in "Up where we belong" even if Joe Cocker isn't a genuine sould/gospel singer. Anyway: this is a great ballad. The song is the movie, sung by the characters is sweet, but this is the version for the end titles sung by top artists. Love it!!!
I remember when I was in the 2nd grade (11 years ago), the whole grade level was singing songs about love (It was February) and my class had to sing Somewhere Out There. I remember seeing my mother crying in the audience when my class was on stage singing this song. She had just lost her mother (my grandmother) and her sister a few months before and I think this song reminded her of them. I love this song so much.
the one that i care and love is serving in iraq and i try not to cry when i hear this song because somewhere in iraq and cali, we're both wishing on the same big star.
Thanks for posting this... It really brings back memories... And now that I'm older I understand the lyrics on a much deeper level than when I was a child.
Wow. I Think I'm Going To Dedcaite This Song To My Favorite Daytime Soap Opera Actor. And To My Favorite Pro Wrestler Too. I Hope That I'll See Either One Of Them In Person, Someday.
Thank you for putting this back up! I have a beautiful/funny memory of singing this with a perfect stranger in a department store in Cleveland. The song was playing on the radio, he heard me sing, came over and sang James Ingram's part, we acted it out, looking into each other's eyes, then when it was over, he told me thank you, I had a beautiful voice, and walked out of the store! Never saw him again! lol!
This might just be the most perfect song ever written.

one of the best duets of the past 40 years! Ronstadt's sensuous alto and Ingram's molten baritone - unbeatable. Thanks for posting!
