Hey GMD, Kinda a random comment for ya, but I was curious. I never owned a dual speaker amplifier. I'm looking at the new Fender Mustang III and IV amps and which would I should go for. I don't play gigs(yet) but I want something that will be a good all-around amp and I don't know if the dual speakers will make a big difference for a single channel amp. I'm also 17 and NOT in possesion of alot of money so I was looking at the III and just buying the 4 button footswitch. Please respond. Thanks.
I have one of the first 66s and I must say its really hard to demo this amp. Its the most tube responsive amp on the planet. Right now mine is so dark that it needs a treble boost at live volumes. The only common factor I have seen between tube sets is the responsiveness - you can do a lot with just a boost and a volume knob no matter tubes are in.
Wattage is rated at 32, but its just plain loud. Way louder than my 45watt Mesa through the same cabinets. Not a practice amp.
I've never played a DR. Z that I didn't love. It's one of the few amps out there that is truly worth the (larger) bucks. They smoke amps that cost twice as much.
After watching the SG demo and then this one, one thing is instantly obvious: this amp LOVES single coils and was made for them. There's just a lot more going on tonally with single coils than with the humbuckers. You really can't get a more spot-on "American rock" sound than a Fender through an amp named the Route 66.
crank it man

one of the things i love about Dr. Z amps is how they stay musical as you turn them up. they don't get all mushy and bassy. this one in particular.
"Sorry! Suckin' over here." i loved that.
good videos.

Whenever I hear a clip of the Route 66, it sounds like "Steppin Out". Satisfied Carmen Ghia owner here. Dr. Z is the best thing since M&Ms!

You should kick your wallet and spend 1k on a Fender Deluxe Power Stratocaster...
With the Piezo powered pickup. Sounds beautiful.
Bet it sound groovy coming from that Dr. Z
