  • Got a TC HoF 4 days ago. It lasted about 3 minutes before turning itself on/off; SO DID THE REPLACEMENT! TC Support suggested a higher quality 9v or to purchase their adapter. Spend more money on a product that doesn't work? YEAH, RIGHT!

I had my wife grab a Boss RV-5 on her way home last night and I used TC's provided 9v in it for over 30 minutes.

The RV-5 sounds just as good, despite fewer settings. I have a few Boss products and have NEVER had problems with ANY of them! BOSS FTW!

  • That click from the hall of fame ppisses me off.

  • Which one sounds less digital to you? Also, did you do a Hardwire v. Hall of Fame demo?

  • This is all very beautiful, but almost completely useless for the first 4 minutes if you want to compare two reverb pedals. IMHO fade sounds are by no means suitable for testing reverb pedals, but they mayy be great for chorus sounds and stuff like that. Anyway, if you hear no pick attack, you can't judge the reverb trail properly and this is what it's all about.

  • Oh well...tc is the winner... glad i bought that one XD

  • i bought the tc too. i was thinking about to get boss or tc hall of fame. i think the same. kinda dont like the warble . what do you think wich one is better

  • Great video! I think both sound great! Both would be really good for swells.. Only one problem I found is with the "Hall of Fame" is that it has a pop when you click it on and off..but if you the power supply's daisy chained that's probably why it's doing that. Either way.Great Video!!!

  • It would be even more interesting to run such a comparison on bass...

  • I'm starting to like the TC.

  • TC electronic é fora do comum! muito bom...

  • I think the comparison is awesome. Sometimes the simplicity of playing is needed to hear the real difference in the pedals.

  • @InspiredProphecy, thanks? what would make it better to you?

  • @mynameistin i think if you'd play some more notes or some chords string by string would make it better to hear what quality the hall is.

  • @mynameistin Nice comparisson! TC is very versatile on the church mode derived tone prints, especially now when i can put them in the pedal by simply putting my ipod close to the pickup!

  • If you showed more of the different patches like Plate, Spring, Hall, and less of the 50%, 100%, etc. it would be better for me.

  • TC has many modulated as downloads. Pity you didn't record the attack sound more--it has real lush quality to the way it treats the signal, boss feels to me slightly more metalic...

  • not a big boss fan but i say the rv5 sounds way better

  • why is there a clicking sound when you turn the hall of fame on? is that normal?

  • @matt926uk1 yeah, it happens for all my MXR pedals which have the same bypass switch as the TC's, the boss style doesn't have any clicking

  • @matt926uk1 ....it's just the mechanical switch, this is not a sound which is amplified.

  • hi guys i am currently in the process of buying my guitar rig! the amp i am getting is a blackstar ht5 head with two cabs! BUT there is no reverb setting on the amp! so which would be a good reverb pedal to go for to have as a constant "reverby" sound? thanks

  • It would be aweasome if you remake this video with a delay cranked for some explosive shoegazish swells

  • Have you ever heard an amp when you turn it on? sounds like a *crank*

The same way sounds the TC Electronic pedal when you kick on the bypass switch

For the quality and price I'd go for the Boss

I admite that the TC Electronic blows the boss, but its almost twice the price, and it has THAT sound that screws it up.

  • Had the rv5 for a long time and finally let it go due to the fact that I only really liked the modulation mode but wasnt using it becasue I use modulation on my delays. It is an excellent pedal though. Nothing beats the neunaber wet for ambient stuff-on max settings it creates a pad on its own.

  • @theglasswizard

I actually just got it yesterday...now i do need some more time to mess with it but the little bit i did i will say it sounds similar to the RV-5 but it still had a bit of warble i didn't like in it. i will mess around with it some more

  • Thanks for the demo! Did you try the room with a view toneprint already? It's supposed to be an RV5 emulation.

  • i really love the long decay the hall of fame has on church but the boss rv-5 and its modulate one so far seems to be a one of a kind. overall diversity the hall of fame wins. just for ambient content uhh man i dont know :) preference really...

  • @mynameistin

Thanks for the response. I don't really care for 'normal' sounding reverbs. Only want something to make it spacey. If there's ever going to be a shimmer toneprint I'd forgo the modulate setting on the RV-5 for the HoF.

  • For me the hall of fame blows the rv-5 away, every mode on the hall of fame is usable, the spring mode on the rv-5 is terrible.

  • Thanks for the demo. Was in the market for an RV-5 (for the modulate mode), now wondering if the HoF might be a better solution. Decisions decisions!

Which would you pick in an ambient context?
