hello i'm 20 years old and i have an S shaped scoliosis 27 degree thoracic and 47 degree lumbar. I don't know much about it and i need to know if surgery is the best option. thank you
@xHenri I would get under some type of care to prevent it from getting worse. A lot of time muscular imbalances cause the spine to curve. If you can catch those early and work on them you can prevent it from advancing
my back started hurting in 1997 i think i was older than 18 i never knew much about scoliosis my uncle had it i would come back from walking and be so tired i read that it can get worse
hello i was diagnosed august last year i walked 5 times a week my back was hurting i had bariatic surgery as weight came off my back hurt worse and worse i thought it was cause i was over weight since i was 11or12yrs old i was an adult when i was diagnosed it hurts when i stand or walk even sitting it hurts sucks now i can walk now i cant
Hi Im 15 years old and just been diagosed with scoliosis, my curve is about 40 degrees and i may need surgery, because ive reached my growth spurt and a brace wont help, im scared because I dont know a lot about it and im scared if its fatal or can affect me when im older
@chaimaaJBgirl Hi, you should definitely research more into the surgical procedure for scoliosis. Your curve is very advanced and if not corrected, down the line you may suffer from various conditions so surgery is probably the best option to realign the spine at this point. Once that's done you should be ok to live normal but you will probably have some limited motion in certain directions.
I found out I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was in 9th grade and my spine had a 9 degree curve. I kno it curved some more. I'm due for another x-Ray soon to see what degree it's in now.
HI i have a 14 degree curve in my spine and the base of my spine is constantly swollen. And my lower back causes me great pain whenever i push too hard with my exercises. It has gotten so bad i can no longer go running, and it also hurts when i am kicking in Tae Kwon Do. Can you give me any advice.
@bigboy789inches if you haven't already done so, go get checked out. Depending on your age, progression of the curve might be halted. Since scoliosis shifts your hips (usually one higher than the other), it may be difficult to run because you may have different leg lengths. I would recommend continuing the exercise as tolerated but definitely see a doctor about it. Maybe even take up swimming since it's a great exercise but easier on the joints.
@bigboy789inches I had similar scoliosis and was very active in sports but developed severe problems over the years (including all the painand problems mentioned in the video) to the point where I could just about walk a couple of hundred metres (I had also developed patial ankylosis and slipped disc and degeneration in cervical spine due to injury), only thing that helped was craniosacral therapy, gradually, over a number of years
i've had mild-moderate scoliosis, and may require a back surgery... i have a few queries... firstly after the sergical procedure why dont they remove the rod they earlier inserted given that the spine is straight... and secondly would i able to continue stregthnous activities like weight lifting after a few years of surgery?
@SalmanAbbas0 If caught early, people with scoliosis are encouraged to go through therapy or exercise to strengthen the back and try to straighten it. If this doesn't work and the curve advances too much, surgery is recommended.
The rod is used as a splint to support the spine and maintain it in a straight position. Once it's in there, it's screwed to the vertebrae and over time bone starts to grow around the rod and screws so it's not recommended to take it out.
@SalmanAbbas0 I wouldn't go through any surgery if I were you, you'll never be free of pain. Doctors love to do operations because it makes big bucks for them and they dont care how many people they hurt.
question... if you have the back brace on, can you work at all?
im 20 years old and i found out just a few months after i was 18 that ive got scoliosis. ive always had back problems since i was 13 but since i got older it became more worse.... im being pressured into getting a job but atm my back has been giving me alot of problems, eg really bad back spasms, knots right next to my spine, cant walk/run/jog that far without having lung problems... any advice as to what i should do?
@Melissa7917 yes you can work but if you're pain has progressively gotten worse, an increased workload on your back may just make you hurt more. It depends on what type of job you do. If it's a desk job, it shouldn't affect you much, but if it's a job where you have to stand up the majority of the time or carry anything then it might not be worth it
@Melissa7917 Try acupuncture and craniosacral therapy, these are the only things that I've found that helped, the younger you start these the better chance you have of improving your spine, don't put up with pain. From my experience orthopaedic doctors and physiotherapists are the worst people to consult on scoliosis. There are also speciallist scoliosis trained people who run specialist physical therapy in Germany and Spain, maybe other countries, google for these.
I found out I had scoliosis when I was 17. I have a Z shape spine. The top is 45 degrees and the bottom is 65 degrees. Physical therapy was a JOKE and I'm not having surgery.
I am 32 years old and my chiropractor reduced my scoliosis which was 14.5 degrees. Now my curve is 9.1 degrees. Is that still considered scoliosis? The right side of my body is weaker than my left as well. I am in physical therapy to try and strengthen it and reduce the pain in my mid-back.
@gnortonshores if it's greater than 10 degrees it's considered scoliosis. Sounds like you've had great results and the physical therapy should help you strengthen your back to create balance between your left and right musculature
growth spear of puberty ...highly unlikely anywhere near the TRUTH. but nice visual. ms is like a walk in the park to heal for lots of people, its a matter of faith if you bump into one. for all the reason :muscles contract, bone follows. relax muscle= happy camper. =) even i need a massage dude.
I felt like I had a back problem in school at times where it hurt to move my back or pick heavier objects up and I found out I have a 10 Degrees curve in my spine my doc said it could get better or worse
my friend had a functional scoliosis after traumatic event for 18 years but 2 visits to this Advanced biostructural correction doctor reduce scoliosis to almost none in 1 week. he didnt have any abnormality of vertebrae, when there is a torque in dura(structure that is protecting ur spinal cord) , by trauma(birth trauma, auto accident, periods of bad posture, to head, and cranial distortion, spine can go twisted to reduce stress on spinal cord.
Scoliosis is not a big deal it's very common and not even a big deal nobody can say anything couse you know it's true it probely dosent even do eny effects
I'm 25 years old and I found out I had scoliosis at 18 years old. I have an S shaped curvature, hopefully someday my spine will get better as I continue going to the chiropractor.
@awarenessis If the scoliosis is severely advanced, it can cause neuropathy. Advanced curvature of the spine can pinch nerves and cause the neuropathy. As far as paralysis, I doubt there's ever been any cases due to scoliosis.

He thinks Im just using my back as an excuse but he doesnt understand at all how horrible the dip feels and that being pregnant makes my back arc and the dip makes it even worse it feels like my back is splitting in half so I sleep on the couch and he always gets sad when I dont sleep with him... but its not my fault I wish he could know how it really is for me.
I have scoliolsis it was found when I was about 10 years old. It was very slight then but now it it at a 45 degree angle and I have major back pain. @diablo2freakgirl Exercise the muscles in your back, swimming is a good way to strengthen those muscles so they can be evenly balanced and support the spine.

@drjoseguevara you can continue to exercise but your range of motion may be limited, so the intensity of the exercise may not be the same.
Of course, you would always consult with your orthopedic surgeon before doing any exercise since you are under their care. Hope that helps some.
