I have a copy of Technicolour Dreams released on Pye 7N17650. B-side is Paradise Flats.
There's no indication of it being an advanced copy. Advanced copies on Pye had either white or yellow labels. Mine is the usual blue label. Also have Make Me Stay A Bit Longer. B-side is Auntie Nellie - 7N17665. Price Of Love 7N17825. Are You Growing Tired Of My Love - 7N17728. Tune To The Music - 7N45077.
@eurocharter Ok, I stand corrected. But the copy of 'TD' I saw was white with a big 'A' on it. I learned somewhere that it had been withdrawn hence my confusion but from what you say it must've been officially released. I didn't know that. I've never seen a blue label copy.
This was their 3rd hit. Their 2nd single (Black Veils Of Melancholy) flopped as did 3 of the next 4. They were Technicolour Dream - Make Me Stay A Bit Longer - Are You Growing Tired Of My Love - #42 hit - The Price Of Love
@eurocharter Close. It was their 2nd hit and 3rd single as 'Staus Quo'. Yes, 'Black Veils' bombed but 'Technicolour Dreams' was withdrawn. Advance copies sell for hundreds of pounds. The beardy geezer in 'Beanos' in Croydon let me hold one a few years ago! It was marked at £600 then. Didn't buy it .............
it made it to #8?? which chart? because i don't remember this one. and if this one was #8 then what was "matchstick men" it came out in '68 also? just asking.
@m1kewithaone "Pictures of Matchstick Men" entered the UK Top 50 on 10/2/68 and reached no. 7. It entered US charts on 27/7/68 and peaked at no. 12. "Ice in the Sun" entered the UK charts on 21/9/68 and reached no. 8, while in the US it got as far as 70. If you're interested in this figure, you'll get the UK Top 40 from 1952 to the present on the Internet at everyhit.co.uk — I've got it in book form up to the Top 100 or whatever it was earlier — and the US under the band name at allmusic.com/
@theherald1000 oh awsome, that is fasinating just how different we are from you english, matchstick men was #1 in my house, i couldn't get enough, and never even heard the one that reached higher than matchstick men over there!! and our sense of humor is different too! what a world huh? i was 10yrs. old in 1966 but i stayed up all night long, taping the top 100 for that year, all i can remember is 'wild thing' by the troggs, now i can go look, so thanx!
@m1kewithaone Actually, I'm South African, not English. Am English stock, tho' (add a little Scottish, too). My one set of grandparents moved here from England to the Cape in the '20s. I live 120 kms inland of Durban. Out here we follow both British and American music. (Best band ever = Beatles!). Also love Beach Boys, Journey, Eric Carmen, Archies, Dylan, Springsteen, Lovin' Spoonful, Blondie, Bread etc. Your movies too. Not US sitcoms! Our sense of humour IS different. We prefer the British...
I wish I was around in the 60s so so so so so so bably!!!!! instead i was born in 93 and have to grow up with R&B and rap and pop and all that nonsense!!!!
@JoeConcerts Well, Joe, you are fortunate in that these days you can be armed with Wikipedia, YouTube and the Internet and seek out those old songs. My nephew was also born in 1993, although he's not much interested in music. I'm trying to catch up on CDs by buying 60s - 80s. I'll never finish, but can recommend that there's tons of great stuff — so keep going !
@theherald1000 60s and 70s I'm keen on. I always seem to identify an era by who the doctor was, so this song would have been in the Troughton era. There were some great music around the Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee era, also the Tom Baker era, of course that era saw Abba. Oh well, thats me being a Dr Who fan!
I just think music from 60s to 80s, also some rock in the 90s just had more soal than what we are seeing today, I mean, music today is just carelessly brainwashing our young people.
@JoeConcerts You may be right. I don't follow rock/pop these days because our radio stations mix it up with other genres that I don't like. I'm more in tune with the gospel tunes of today and I must say, I think a lot of them are very lacking. (In the 70s and 80s they used to be very good). m1kewithaone's advice below to listen to the Turtles' "Elenore" is spot-on. Give a listen to their other great hits too — "It Ain't Me Babe" (a Dylan number), "She'd Rather be with Me" and "Happy Together".
@JoeConcerts joe, calm down. you don't have to do anything you don't want to do, ok. just stick with us, and we'll set you free. now, go listen to "set me free" by the kinks, and "elanor" by the turtles, and i think you will see the light.. it hasn't disappeared, just faded away, alittle, but i think if we stick together here, we can bring it all back. and i don't know what you were talking about there, 'cause i never watched dr. who. but i do remember 'abba' and the song 'fernando' is my fav.
Advanced copies of Technicolour Dreams are worth £1000 mint my blue official release is worth £70 mint. My slightly near mint I believe is worth £50.

No. Marty Wilde (father of Kim Wilde) and Ronnie Scott. One of the nicest songs of the Quo in the early years, I think
