I am a runner with good cardio. I started to lifts weights for about a month now. and Ive noticed my cardio isnt as good as it used to be. I want to be able to get big like you but still have good cardio. Is this just a phase? And if i keep running will my cardio get better again?
would it make a difference if i did 30 minutes of jogging at 5k pace or say 10 minutes of intense cardio like intervals. which is more effective? or would it be best to alternate daily
eating less also lowers your metabolism, in effect, u should eat more healthy foods spread out thru the day, like 5 meals. im still a bigger fan of sixpack shortcuts.
I am doing the 35 minute cardio I am lifting but I am not eating 3500 calories. I have been eating clean lots of protein complex carbs before 6 around 1800 to 2300 calories a day I am 6'0 204. am I losing muscle because of my calorie intake?
@MMAView It depends on age, genetics and how long you've been working out. If you're still in your first year or so of working out, then even if you're at a caloric deficit you should still be making gains.
To get the "afterburner effect" for your example of say, 35 mins cardio, would this have to be one sitting of 35 mins cardio? Or, would one sitting of 20 mins and one sitting of 15 create the same effect?
WTF? He got the afterburn effect idea from sixpack shortcuts and calls it the "Afterburner effect", then he talks about how the body is a race car just like Mike Chang did.
@Thecharger17 Idea ? Mike Chang didn't create the after burn effect. It's science. Mike says you don't have to do Cardio to activate it. Which is Bullshit.
@EliazGonza Wrong. He says he doesn't use a treadmill, eliptical or any other cardio machine because it doesn't burn as many calories as mountain climbers, body weight squats and other full body exercises. I know because I was crazy enough to pay for his program.
@KappoDB well im not scooby but wht i do know is the fewer the calorie you intake, the fatter you get.this is because:1)your bodies use to getting alot of calories from eating or 2) your losing your fat and calorie/protein in your body rapidly that your body is trying to store as much body ft from the little food you eat.(its like an emergency rhing in your system from keepin you from starving). @scooby1961 Hi Scoobs, greetings from Serbia... I wanted to ask you a simple question and i ask only for a short answer...
If i do cardio every day and consume fewer calories at the same time, will the afterbuner effect be better for it??? Thanks in advance, love your videos...
hi scooby the gym i am at is mostly weight lifting and very little cardio, i go twice a day and 4-5 times a week. so is it possible to get the 6 pak by mostly weight training?
@SeouIFood Well of what I can gather, sixpackshortcus claim that cardio training is pointless because it doesnt activarte the afterburn. They say that by doing specially developed wieght-lifting exercises you activate it. These exercises supposedly activate several different muscle groups at the same time, forcing the body to divide its energy resources to such a degree that it has to start using up its own storage, meaning the fat.
@xlhotlx You obviously didnt watch the entire video either, so Im gonna write the same thing twice. Where in the vid do you see/hear him offer any kind of product?!? On the contrary he gives you all this info FOR FREE !
@SeouIFood Its self explanatory Theres no short cuts to 6 pack abs . 500 crunches is not going to give you abs . In order to see your abs you need to get your body fat below 10 % or you wont see your abs .
@ILIK3HATERZRight. Except that's what sixpackshortcuts says as well. So you and Scooby are basically agreeing with them. Doesn't answer SeoulFood's question.
@ILIK3HATERZ What? Seoulfood asked why "sixpackshortcuts" is wrong, and your answer didn't make sense. You said that just doing a bunch of crunches won't do anything. But sixpackshortcuts have videos saying the same thing. You aren't making any sense.
hey scooby what type of crunches are good for getting rid of a beer belly? ............haha no just kidding, no my real question is if i do 15 min of cardio in the morning and 15 min at night does that count as 30 min of cardio? thumbs up so scooby can see this!
@101mattlewis well 15+15 = 30 minutes. depending on your capabilities, you should involve yourself in HIIT exercises and add sprints. can take less time but use more calories.
@sylta09 Just keep your heart rate between 75-80% of you max heart rate for half an hour.
That´s it. No matter how. Running, walking, biking or swimming. The afterburn-effect is even better after doing 10 minutes of intervall-training like doing 10X 100m sprints. Without warmup you might get injured that way pretty quickly.
I jog on the treadmill about 15 or 20 mins and then do 20 or 30 mins on the elliptical. Both cardio exercise or high tense running and pushing myself. But I saw your afterburn effect video and saw the part about jogging for 35 mins and how much calories you burn after the jog. does this afterburn effect work to his I do about 50 mins of treadmill and elliptical? Thank you for your time...
Did you say that the research was done in 1918? Aren't there any more recent stidies available on the subject? I agree that cardio will increase calorieburn, but there are numerous studies that suggest that it is not a linear and simple relationship between the two. Perhaps this afterburneffect is part of that complexity. It'd be great to read some more recent studies. Keep up the good work, your videos are much appreciated.
@viskandevesslan thats what I was thinking, how can people from the time when jet engines werent made in scoobys own words, be able to calculate the equation for calculating afterburn effect. Seems a little iffy. Recent studies are definetely needed.
This video contains false statements. Although the afterburner effect is proven to exist, it's no more than 6-7% of the calories burned while working out.
@iSintendo It doesn't matter, but it's depend of your body. If you keep up with your diet , its always works for you, no matter - in the morning or at night. For exemple, I can't do cardio after 10 PM coz can't sleep well, and my body does not revovery and regenerate properly.
@BirmzWeedhead Im planning on buying a bike and riding along the canal to my nearest city and back which is about 15miles away, so that should be good cardio.
so if im doing this nfl football traing camp thing and it takes me like an hour to do it. But, if its not continues running does it still activate afterburn??????

This is very interesting. So which just 30 minutes of cardio, i'm burning almost double that amount by after burn effect.. Scooby how accurate is this.. And if this is true, how come other people aren't talking about it? If this afterburn effect exist, I don't understand why people are fat, when all they have to do is run 30 minutes a day, and watch what they eat!
hi scooby. Could u explain a little more about what type of cardio can be done other than just a jog? Its hard to just jog everyday. Pls thumbs up this comment so that sccoby can see this! thankS!
@ImJuStoOGoOd Using a Skipping rope is somewhat equivalent or greater cardio then jogging..research jump rope on google its really cheap to buy and can be done anyway :)
@ImJuStoOGoOd Cycling is really good cardio. In fact it's much better for burning calories than jogging. Jogging in a normal pace burns about 7 times as many calories as
just sitting still, doing nothing, while cycling in a normal pace (15-20 mph) burns 12 times as many calories. Walking burns 4 times as many, so that's good too.
@ImJuStoOGoOd cardio is cardio man, you can jump rope, jumping jacks, plyometrics, mountain climbers so many things just look them up and make a routine that works best for you.
@ImJuStoOGoOd Do M100s, it's a great cardio workout that really gets your heat going, and most people cannot finish them without taking breaks inbetween search m100s in youtube if you don't know what they are. search "Sixpackshortcuts" On youtube or "Insanehomefatloss" for cardio workouts and dumbbell workouts daily. Hope this helps you and some more my friend.
@ImJuStoOGoOd inline skating, swimming, fast walking, jumping rope, soccer, basketball, anything that makes you sweat (except for sauna and reading bills of course) =)
im now 25 and used to be a heavy smoker, as such i cant do much jogging before i get tired to the point where i need a couple of minutes rest. Any tips for gettingmy lungs relativley healthy again, i quit about 3 months ago.
@lostunsunghero Yeah the more you run, the better you get at it! Just like the harder you study, the smarter you get.. It just takes time! If ur tired a take a break and go at it again. And than after that try to jog longer with less rest, and eventually you'll be strong enough to run without resting!
@Southportzz Check his other cardio videos. He states what is considered cardio and what is not. He basically states that the activity is considered cardio if it increases your heartbeat to a certain range and maintain it for at least 20 minutes. Type what is cardio and scooby and you may get that video.
Hey Scooby, What's your take on HIIT and heavy compound lifts? I read somewhere that HIIT & Compound lifts could increase the afterburn effect more than a regular cardio would
So basically out more effort in lifting weights and eating well rather than running for hours. it is unnecessary when body composition is your main goal ie: lowering bodyfat., hope this helps someone, regards, Pietro
in my opinion if fat loss is ultimate goal then consistent pace cardio is time consuming and ineffective. You will burn more calories by doing hi intensity interval cardio say 15-20 min, walk then sprint at 1 min intervals. Lastly diet, its not about eating less your right about that but rather eating under your maintenance- bmr, when done with correct foods its actually quiet alot of food considering how many calories it amounts to.
resistance training raises your metabolism not only higher but for longer than cardio does. plus you will be gaining lean muscle which in turn needs more calories to support it so its a win win.
What a great human-being this guy is. He reminds me of the guy who works at my local privately owned organic store. So polite and strait to the point! NO BS!
hey scooby when do you suggest do cardio, in the morning, or after weightlifting? It really sucks to do it in the morning, and if I do it after lifting weights it's taxing too cuz my weight training session is intense
@jaydarenegade hey jay im a personal trainer. if your looking at striping fat do 30 minutes of cardio in the morning before your first meal and make sure when you do eat its healthly. Try eating a handful of nuts as well first thing :)
Ok ill ask it, im sure you've got this many times before.. im trying to gain lean muscle mass and lose fat not a whole lot but i just want too drop1% to 3% BF and still bulk at the same time? One is it possible? Two if possible how can i go about doing so? Im about 13%bf right now and i just kind want to get to about 10 or 11% just to have some nice abs, but my problem i want the bet of both worlds. I will say i have made gains in the past few months while keeping my bodyfat the same.
I started a high fat, low carb diet when my gym membership was up about a month ago. I pretty much only started doing simple home workouts, push ups, pull ups, core workouts, etc. and I my body fat actually went down, I was shocked. I went to the gym again for a day pass and also noticed my strength increased a little. So scooby, would you recommend a diet such like mine? Where I even weave in two cheese burgers a week?
u got increased strength because u had time away from the gym and werent working as hard as your body was used too so when u went back your muscles werent as tired =increased strength really wouldnt recommend a high fat diet. best way is small high protein meals going back to the basics staying away from processed foods 5-6 meals a day if you have the time. only small serving sizes remember your eating so your no longer hungry not eating to the point you want to explode.
I have read that your heart rate is not necessarily indicative of how many calories you are burning, because muscle cells are what use calories, and it is possible to get your heart rate up while you are not using many muscles to do it (like doing 150 reps of curls, for instance). However, if you are using alot of muscles in your cardio, your heart rate could be lower but you are burning more calories because you are using more muscle cells to consume them. What do you think about this?
Hey great video but I have a question. Is there a heart rate I should reach to be considered cardio? I can jog all day long and not really raise my heart that much. Other sources say you really need to reach around 85% heart to start the afterburner effect. What is your opinion on this?
@7091FIN1987 That is like the dumbest comment i have ever read..
When you gain muscle, your muscle pushes your veins up to the surface of your skin. and when your healthy and lean there won't be any fat to cover your veins.
when i have done cardio, can i do it again the day after ?
ThomasAkaTheBoss 29 minutes ago

And if this is true, how come other people aren't talking about it? If this afterburn effect exist, I don't understand why people are fat, when all they have to do is run 30 minutes a day, and watch what they eat!
stockmaster1982 1 month ago
hi scooby. Could u explain a little more about what type of cardio can be done other than just a jog? Its hard to just jog everyday. Pls thumbs up this comment so that sccoby can see this! thankS!
ImJuStoOGoOd 1 month ago 52
@ImJuStoOGoOd the cardio i did was mainly two things.
The crosstrainer machine (looks like a mix between skiing, running and riding a bike :P).
And a rowing machine.
Those two was basicly the ONLY excersise i did and i lost 30 kilos in 2½ months.
Cardio and i stopped drinking 1.5 litre of cola/soda every day..

@ImJuStoOGoOd
skipping rope is the best cardio I've ever done. doesnt take very long either.
6BURG9 1 month ago
@ImJuStoOGoOd stationary bike or normal bike and aerobics.
varun009 1 month ago
@ImJuStoOGoOd Using a Skipping rope is somewhat equivalent or greater cardio then jogging..research jump rope on google its really cheap to buy and can be done anyway :)
yohabibee 1 month ago
@ImJuStoOGoOd Cycling is really good cardio. In fact it's much better for burning calories than jogging. Jogging in a normal pace burns about 7 times as many calories as
just sitting still, doing nothing, while cycling in a normal pace (15-20 mph) burns 12 times as many calories. Walking burns 4 times as many, so that's good too.
Collinffs 4 weeks ago
@Collinffs what about jump rope?
darkfranky6 4 weeks ago
@darkfranky6 Not sure. I'll have to look into it, but i'm guessing it's similar to jogging. It might burn more, depending on how you do it.
Collinffs 4 weeks ago
@ImJuStoOGoOd cardio is cardio man, you can jump rope, jumping jacks, plyometrics, mountain climbers so many things just look them up and make a routine that works best for you.

im now 25 and used to be a heavy smoker, as such i cant do much jogging before i get tired to the point where i need a couple of minutes rest. Any tips for gettingmy lungs relativley healthy again, i quit about 3 months ago.
lostunsunghero 1 month ago
@lostunsunghero just keep jogging. If you do it consistently enough without smoking, your lungs should repair themselves in time
backtoids 1 month ago
@lostunsunghero Yeah the more you run, the better you get at it! Just like the harder you study, the smarter you get.. It just takes time! If ur tired a take a break and go at it again. And than after that try to jog longer with less rest, and eventually you'll be strong enough to run without resting!

So what should we do in the 48 Hours of not working out to still be burning fat?
MMTPproductionz 1 month ago
is mike chang charging people for this? what you just told us in the video? haha.
and scooby, is 30 minutes of walking also cardio? like just regular walking. not slow, yet not mega fast. thanks for the video =)
Southportzz 1 month ago
@Southportzz Check his other cardio videos. He states what is considered cardio and what is not. He basically states that the activity is considered cardio if it increases your heartbeat to a certain range and maintain it for at least 20 minutes. Type what is cardio and scooby and you may get that video.
latira100 1 month ago
Hey Scooby, What's your take on HIIT and heavy compound lifts? I read somewhere that HIIT & Compound lifts could increase the afterburn effect more than a regular cardio would
madballerz2000 1 month ago
How did u come up with these numbers?
kriegpaolo 1 month ago
So basically out more effort in lifting weights and eating well rather than running for hours. it is unnecessary when body composition is your main goal ie: lowering bodyfat., hope this helps someone, regards, Pietro
huyaha 2 months ago
in my opinion if fat loss is ultimate goal then consistent pace cardio is time consuming and ineffective. You will burn more calories by doing hi intensity interval cardio say 15-20 min, walk then sprint at 1 min intervals. Lastly diet, its not about eating less your right about that but rather eating under your maintenance- bmr, when done with correct foods its actually quiet alot of food considering how many calories it amounts to.
huyaha 2 months ago
resistance training raises your metabolism not only higher but for longer than cardio does. plus you will be gaining lean muscle which in turn needs more calories to support it so its a win win.

hey scooby when do you suggest do cardio, in the morning, or after weightlifting? It really sucks to do it in the morning, and if I do it after lifting weights it's taxing too cuz my weight training session is intense
jaydarenegade 2 months ago

Where I even weave in two cheese burgers a week?
strongfp 2 months ago
u got increased strength because u had time away from the gym and werent working as hard as your body was used too so when u went back your muscles werent as tired =increased strength really wouldnt recommend a high fat diet. best way is small high protein meals going back to the basics staying away from processed foods 5-6 meals a day if you have the time. only small serving sizes remember your eating so your no longer hungry not eating to the point you want to explode.
scriptaz 2 months ago
@strongfp no thats a terrible idea, high protein more carbs would have helped u more

That's the keto diet right?
madballerz2000 1 month ago

I always thought that afterburners were associated with weightlifting and with cardio you only burn calories while you're actually doing it.
