  • Dude, SWEEET!

  • It sounds very good!

  • @mileennka Thanks you so much!

  • beautifully played - and your Ryan sounds fabulous!

  • @Richpicking thanks!

  • is that a Ryan Cathedral guitar ? it is divine sounding

  • @wisesatyr72 yes that's a Ryan Cathedral and it is divine sounding indeed.

  • Very good job of playing the guitar. Many people have tried to compare to Tommy as a player but not many have gotten quite as far as you have. Would you please tell me where you got the tabs from so I could try too.

  • @TommyEmmanuel2 Thank you very much! I can't post a link here, but just google Saltwater.ptb and you'll get the tab!

  • YOU ARE AMAZING!

  • @myozeusr Thank you!!!!

  • Great job man! Keep up the good work!

  • Cant tell ou how many times ive watched and listened to this in aww..Definetly one of My Favorites Thanks

  • @merrittman63 Wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate it.

  • Beautiful attempt my friend. One of the very best, and I feel I give praise lightly.

  • Ok thanks for the help jazzinc

  • Thanks jazzinc. Do you know anything about the azden sgm 1x mic? I am debating over the rode and the azden. Also what software did you use for the reverb? Thanks again and keep on posting videos!!!!!!!!!!

  • @gavenid No sorry, never heard of that mic. I used a UAD-1 card with effects. The best out there IMHO

  • Hi jazzinc. Very very very nice cover. I think you are the 2nd best player of this song here on youtube other than tommy emmanuel himself. One question, did you use a rode videomic and did you use any effects such as reverb? Thanks!

  • @gavenid Hi Gavenid. Wow thank you so much for your kind words. Yes, I used the Rode Videomic straight into the cheap-o Panasonic video mic. The compression is from the videocamera and I did add a hint of Reverb later

  • I signed up to Youtube just to tell you how beautiful you make this song for me.

    Thank you.

  • @presidentflush Wow, I am very honored! Thank you so much. This is why I share music on YouTube!

  • this is great..makes me wanna learn this song too.

  • just awesome..<3

  • You say you're not quite there yet with this..you're damn close..and I'm sure it's just a matter of time... keep it up. Great sound and technique.

  • @eighthwit Thank you!!!

  • @FrancisFurtak Hey I didn't try to spam anyone . Computer glitch? Hey you really are quite good . If you have the chance check out my one video on the tube. FF

  • Great job keep it up! I hope you are making a living at this ! Sincerely Francis Furtak

  • @FrancisFurtak Thanks! And no, sorry, I don't make my living at this :-)

  • Really beautiful..

  • wd! It needs a lot of training to play like you..!

  • Let me tell you brother that the ryan sounds so good It will make the angels cry. I don't have enough money to buy the case for it. But would sure like to have one. You did a great job on the song. Tommy E. is my favorite acoustic guitar player. He is amazing, and for that matter so are you. How long have you been playing? I have been playing off and on for over 40 years and I don't come close to you. Great job and keep up the fantastic work.

  • @dragonass77 Thanks. I have been playing on and off for about 20 years, mostly off though. Then in 2003 I saw Tommy and got serious about the guitar and started playing finger-style. Got an entry-level Taylor acoustic and went from there.

    Keep at it!

  • bravissimo

  • Hi JazzInc, firstly I would like to tell you that THIS is one of the fest versions of this song I've ever heard. Trying to learn it for two months already. :-)

I just want to ask you for something - how exactly do you play the flageolets in 1:50? It simply too fast to catch it.....

  • Hi

thanks! Check out my video 'how to Play artificial harmonics' that'll teach you all you need to know. I just bar at the second fret and pick the harmonics and open strings. My video tutorial explains it all.

  • Thank you for your tip, it's a very useful tutorial, I have much to learn now. :-) But actually, I know HOW to play it, I just don't know WHICH strings you play at this part. You're simply too fast. :)

  • @TheMarsyas1 Ok, that's a harmonic over the 14th fret of the 6th (low e) string, then the 'open` 3rd (G) string fretted on the 2nd fret , then a harmonic over the 14th fret of the 5th string, then the 'open' b (2nd) string, then a harmonic over the 14th fret of the 4th (d) string) and 'open` 1st (e) string, then a harmonic over the 14th fret on the 3rd (g) string. and then play the last bit on the 1st (high E) string that ends in a slide upwards

    hope this helps

  • first of all i want to say i am very impressed.. you play this song very well!

i wondered whether you could explain to me what chords you play at 1:30-1:33. i am learning this song but i am nog using tabs... thx!

  • Hi

that's a dim7 chord shape. Like x-4-5-3-5-x Which is the first chord in the sequence: C#dim7

    have fun!

  • Does anyone know how exactly to play the short flageolet part in 1:48? I know what flageolets are but I never seen to play them like this...

  • well, i found some lessons how to play this style. But it seems really hard. :-)

  • thats a really nice nightingale you have

  • Thanks! But this one is actually his Cathedral :-)

  • you are really good sir, this sounds wonderful.

  • Keep at it, doing pretty good at this point.

  • man that was realy good :) awesome song

  • He does this so well. this is deffinetly one of my favorites.

  • Amazing tone. I've never heard the original song, but from the fluency with which this was played, i'd say i've heard the professional recording.

  • dude, your really amazing

i just subscribed, keep up the great work!

  • Simply beautiful

  • amazing...

  • awesome guitar

  • that guitar sounds absolutly amazing!! what kind is it? and what woods?

  • Thanks. It's a Ryan Cathedral with a Caspian spruce top and ziricote back and sides.

  • great job man

    i give you major props

me and my dad watched and were amazed

  • Thanks! That made my day!

  • awsome

  • Hi Joost,

I enjoy your videos very much. I remember when you received that Ryan and you are doing well with it. Everything I heard from you so far is from TE. I've seen your posted pics when you took your amazing Ryan out of its case for the first time. Beautiful instrument it is for a very good player you are. The first title I heard from you is Amy and you had me discovered TE then. I never left TE since. Isn't it fun when you can achieve one of his piece from one end to the other.

  • Thank you very much! That made my day

  • Very nice ; ) I just learned this from watching you..love Tommy too. I'm just learning about computers and want to download some songs...could you share with me what set-up you are using for audio and video, and the connections to computer? I would be grateful....nice Nightingale too..have you had it long? I'm playing a Martin dreadnaught now but auditioning some others for fingerstyle....thanks for the help..

  • Hi,

Thanks! I recorded this with a standard panasonic videocamera and a Rode Videomic. Then I just downloaded the clip to the computer and that's it

  • very good...

  • this is beautiful. Hope I can learn it that well <3

  • *haha* I have long fingers, though I had to practise this as well. The key is in relaxing your hand as much as you can

  • Beautiful playing and love your version as much or more than Tommy's. Any chance you know where I could get the sheet music for this arrangement? I've searched the web and can't find it.

Keep posting, you are clearly a great guitarist!

  • Nice job man... Tommy would be proud of you...

    Keep posting TE Songs

  • I've been working on tapping my foot more, too (like Tommy recommends).

My problem is that my left foot is metronome challenged, and being right-footed it bounces my guitar all over the place LOL

  • *haha* keep tapping that foot! I had the same thing! Funny, but I head to teach my left foot rhythm, and sometimes my right foot just wants to play along.

  • Well done! One of, if not the, best i've heard. Also AMAZING RYAN Cathedral!!!!!!!!!!!! And I see you've got a Nightingale as well. Very nice!

  • very very good!

  • I need to hear that again... and again... and again... great job...

  • were did You Get The Tabs ?!!!!!!!!

  • Mijn oprechte complimenten!! Ik heb al een aantal van jou YOU TUBE gitaar stukken bewonderd! Je bent 1 van de weinige in Nederland die Tommy Emmanuel op een goede manier weet te benaderen. En er zijn zoveel goede gitaristen. Dus keep on goin'..... gr. just another guitar player.

  • wauw, dank je. Da's een geweldig compliment. Dat maakt mijn 2e kerstdag :-)

  • WOW!!!

  • I am so gonna figure this out =) hope you don't mind haha

  • You are very talented :)

  • Nice. I was wondering who are your favorite acoustic guitarists.

  • Laurence Juber, Al Petteway, Pierre Bensusan and ofcourse Tommy Emmanuel

  • Beautiful tone. Very expressive delivery. Someone tell TE their is a new sheriff in town.

  • Wow, AMAZING playing!!!

  • oke je bent hoollandss:p waar woon je klinkt super troues ik leerde m bine 2 dagen haha:p maar hij klinkt wel nog niet soo perfect als bij jou :p

  • " It's not quite there yet but I'm working on it" Wow my friend, this is not 'quite there yet', then I am still lightyears away... This was truly amazing and a worthy cover of Tommy Emmanuel..!

  • this sounds like so beautiful , im breathless!

  • bien ouej cest bien joué continue

  • Maravilloso.

    Felicitaciones

  • whoa great job. how long did it take you to learn that one?

  • Thanks, I guess a month or two

  • wow. not sure if you know the song 'those who wait' by mr. emmanuel, but that song took me like 6 months and its still not perfect. im hoping to get more skilled in the art of learning songs.

  • I love the song and love your arrangement of it.

  • how long are you playing guitar?

  • off and on for about 18 years, but I started this fingerstyle playing in 2003

  • ok, you are very good keep it up!

nice guitar i've got a Taylor 415 CE very nice guitar too:D

  • omg 18 years... but this does reflect 18 years of hard work, you're awesome, keep it up love this vid, man

  • That was some amazing playing my friend....and that guitar has some monster tone...well done

  • superb ! directly in my favorites. ryan 's guitars are fantastics but i can't afford one of them. you are a lucky man and a good guitarist. ;-) André

  • Awesome execution of this song of Tommy's. I jsut started working on this song and your video is helping with those "obscure" chord progressions that Tommy (and you) use to create that amazing effect. Thank you so much.

    Jim

  • What brand is on that wonderful guitar ??

  • It's a Ryan Cathedral

  • you play magnificient!! i'm truly moved by your touch and tone. great work!

  • Very amazing playing! I listen it over and over again, thanks.

  • It's a pleasure listen to this song! Great cover :)

  • I never get tired of watching this video. Any way I can get this recording on my IPOD?

  • *haha* that's a great comment, made my day. PM sent

  • Brilliant! This is the best recording quality I think ive heard on youtube... awesome bro

  • Thanks man, all because of the Rode Videomic you see in the bottom of the screen. Then a quick noise touch-up in Adobe Audition and you're good to go!

  • Adobe Audition... i'll have to check that out.. thanks!

  • WOW! what a sound !

  • brilliant and a perfect video also ! I want to have a go at it with your help ! thank you very much and best regards from Berlin.

Well done ! (the harmonic while using the thumb pick is not so easy - is it !)

    thanx again

  • Thank you Thomas, it's a great and rewarding song to learn and it's a real crowd pleaser. That's why it's my most popular video.

The harmonics with a thumbpick are both hard and easy. They're easy because you get the best attack, but hard because it's hard to strike the string cleanly with it, as you can see in the video :D

  • Hey man .. nice job .. I can't decide which version of this song I like better, yours or Tommy's... I was wondering if you had a tab for this song? I've looked everywhere for a tab for this song ..

  • Thanks Juzanordinaryguy, but Tommy's version is definitely better (of course)! His hybrid picking technique creates a better flow.

I sent you a message about your other question.

  • Gorgeous.

This is rightfully, a very popular song on youtube.

You do a sensational job. Would love to hear the whole 'Day....'!

  • Wow. Outstanding. Thanks for sharing. Ah to have long skinny fingers. ;-)

  • Haven't heard this song in awhile and forgot how good it really is. Great job and thanks for posting!

  • You must have giant fingers. At 00:18 you stretch from the 2nd fret to the 7th. That is physically impossible for me even with capo up one (I normally play standard 1/2 step down). And I have big hands . . .

  • *haha* I am 6'7, so I do have larger than average hands, but I couldn't make that stretch at first either. I had to practise a lot. Besides, Tommy Emmanuel does it too and he has normal hands. Watch your wrist angle and the position of your thumb. The rest is practice.

  • I have puny Asian hands. I can't reach it either. So Instead I tapped the G. Or you can move the position of the chord with your thumb up to push down the lower E on the fifth fret; middle finger to push the A the seventh fret; ring finger to push the D on the seventh fret; index finger to push the G on sixth; and your pinkie on the high E on the seventh fret.

  • instead of:

    e 7

    B 2

    G 2

    D 2

    A 0

    E

It's the same chord. If you opted for this option you have to throw out the slide you make from barring the DGBE from the second fret to fourth and back. It sounds complicated but it's really not. You just need agility, which you'll get from practice.

  • looks like this:

    e 7

    B

    G 6

    D 7

    A 7

    E 5

  • I'm lucky and can do it, but you really have to put your wrist up and thumb down to do it.

  • try playing it with a flat pick

  • Great work man..

  • one of the best TE covers i've seen from another guitarrero ;) very clear and feel'playing !!

    very cool mate

  • Superbe, tout simplement superbe!!!

    Congratulations Man

  • you.are.awesome! period! :D

  • ouch.. my fingers are burning doing these chords! methinks this is not a tune for intermediates like me..inspiring tho it is.

  • nice work bro! ;)

  • jesus, i want play just like you

  • hey that was great i havent heard that song before i would like to try to play that , where do i look for the tab or sheet music . lets hear some more

  • Nice work man! My compliments! Please accept my friends invitation, as I always like to keep supporting fine guitarist!

  • Hi, First my compliments you play fine and preciscely. But i have a question. I'm now starting with tommy emmanuel music. I first learned some Harry Sacksiony. I know it's hard studying but how did you managed it. I'm going to start with borsalino and next I will be starting with saltwater because these songs have not i think the most difficult techniques of tommy. (i come from holland)

    Greets and succes,

    Benny

  • Hi Benny,

well, I don't know if I did anything special. The only thing is to keep at it and don't get discouraged (play every day if you can) and you'll get there. If I can, you can, believe me. Saltwater and Borsalino are fine songs, but there may be easier ones to start with, like 'stay close to me'.

  • arranged not created lol hahaha so many overated guitarist yawns... only pain, passion and creative composing is everything^&($^($

  • your very good? and ur sexy and howv old are u? and can we be friends?

  • i play guitar

but im very bad at fingerstyle

    still working on it

Visit Koolie0o's channel and watch my videos

well after this awesome guitar video

  • holy moly!!!

  • Wow...amazing

  • its really nice to see that someone can play Tommy Emmanuel's song as good as he does :)

but, some things that caught my attention.

put more emotions in the song youre playing :) right now it all sounded very good, but very..boxed. play with the melodoy more, make it yours, play slower and then faster, gentlier and then stronger.

otherwise, like said, very good :)

  • what kind of mic is that your using?

  • It's a Rode Videomic going into my very basic panasonic camcorder

  • wow thats amazing sound for a video camera microphone, sounds like it was ment for instruments. do you know of any microphones for recording guitars that you recomend?

  • the Rode Videomic is an all-round mic and it is great for a quick-n-dirty video recording. For more serious studio stuff Rode has the NT4 for stereo recording and I like a Large Diaphragm condensor so the N1a and even better the Rode K2 are incredible mics for the money. If you can only have one studio mic, get the K2 with the warm valve tone and the adjustable pick-up pattern. For serious stereo recording I would suggest a matched pair of Microtech Gefell M300s. They are incredible

  • wow, thanks alot man

  • Joost man... I don't know how many of your videos I have on my favourites list, but they're there for an obvious reason. Your playing is incredible, the notes sound crystal clear, and the pace is perfect. Nice choice of songs as well! Enough is enough, my cheap old Morgan can't be dusting away in the corner after hearing this tune.

Cheers, and keep up the phenomenal work! :-) 5 Stars *****

  • Thank you for your very kind words. It makes me want to practise more.

  • truly you are a genius on the strings - fantastic!

  • you cant arrange music for shit,

  • Love the tone and the pace. You have excellent skills and really make the song beautiful. Guys like you do more than entertain you inspire. As a long time picker I know how hard it is to get from struggle thru a song to being able to play it with real feeling. My hat is off to you.

  • heel mooi!

  • I think I have listened to your version of Saltwater now for about the thirtieth time. You play it so cleanly that I think I have come to prefer it to Tommy's. Outstanding job! Thank you for the wonderful music!

  • Wow thanks! that's about the biggest praise one can get. thanks, though I realize no-one can outplay Tommy

  • Jazz... may I ask the tunning??? ... thank you ...

  • It's standard tuning

  • nice work...

  • awesome bro, from New Zealand :) chur chur lol

  • Beautiful as always, Joost. I have become a big fan of your playing, and of your great-sounding guitar. Tommy would be proud of you!

  • WOW thank you, that is so kind!

  • Wow man. That as awesome man..... One century Ill be able to play that lol Keep up the good work dude :)

  • Hey ... thanks for posting ... so nice ... mate you have a touch ... enjoying every note ... keep em coming ... making my tough day already better ... ah ... now that's what good music is supposed to do ...

  • wow you play it like tommy you kick ass !

  • Tried to play this song, but I just can't stretch my fingers from 2nd to 7th fret :/

  • Keep working on it. I find if I relax myself and don't worry if it sounds right or I make the stretch it eventually comes. Big stretch in Chet Atkins "Vincent" I can now do it 90% of the time. I remind myself constantly to play relaxed and don't force anything. This helps alot. Good luck.

  • loved this soong...very emotional for me - thanks a mill JazzInc.

  • hey u play sry DAWM good : )) love it. you're subscribed ofc ;D thx a lot for your postings.. for sure i'll look for your stuff pretty often : )

  • Great playing, very enjoyable.
