  • Reminds me of Sean Taylor

  • This dude only hit when the WR dont see him, if the WR see him he cant dodje him easy

  • and people was giving the browns shit for taking tj ward over this bum.WOW great job mike holmgren cuz tj is a monster!!!!

  • he is a huge project, like usual thanks to Mike motherfucker for not doing anything to make the Niners better, but hopefully Harbaugh's coaching staff will bring Mays up to speed on route recognition and fluid coverage. He def has everything else down pat lol

  • He hits hard,

but his coverage is a little sloppy,

and he looks like hes lookin gfor the big hit every time, which will get him burned and shit on in the NFL.

  • Looks like all Mays does is try to hit people with his helmet.

  • did he get trucked on tha 1st play well, nt trucked, but it was a great collision

  • did he get trucked on tha 1st play

  • pantherJG3 how dare u say Taylor mays isn't a football player you don't know what football is even if it came out the sky and slapped u in the face yea he's no sean taylor but he's definitely a good football player

  • Eric Berry .

  • 49ers suck!!!they're gonna lose today!!!

  • Man 49ers suck

  • Pete really made him look like an ass half time his senior year theres no way you put him a 6'3 230 lb. animal at FS IDC how fast he is any real coach would have him roll down in the box and let him support the run more then the pass not in Cover 1 20 to 25 yrds from the LOS makin him cover sideline to sideline thats just bad coachin and flat out stupid

  • @umhb09star nah not really...with his athletic ability, he's able to cover the field sideline to sideline. He was just so worried about the "highlight hit" that he would take poor angles or come up too far out of position and get burnt deep

  • @jones26 so you would leave him at Free instead of Strong dont get me wrong the guy is extremely athletic but the best way to get the full out of him is to put in down in the box with his speed no TE or slot WR could touch him in run D as far as pass D just a simple cover 3 or man him up with a TE and you win every game

  • @umhb09star i think the outcomes would be the same. he's a hard hitter. it looked like he did alot of assuming and guessin. 6 times out of 10 it worked lol. he's gonna be a monster once he gets it together tho

  • you should highlight the player in each play hard to tell

  • whhooo hopefully mays is a beast this yr for my 9ers, not expecting him to get alot of PT but am lookin forward to him makin some big hits!!

  • Ronnie Lott Part 2

  • hes overrated.. tj wards better then him and a harder hitter

  • @twinklemouse33 u must have been high when u posted thhat comment. now way he is overrated

  • Bad tackling: He has M.Singletary to teach him how to do that.

Bad cover skills: E.Wright worked with S.Spencer in the off-season, and he made a comeback in 09 as a starter after missing a year from a ACL Tear. I dont see why he can work with T.Mays.

S.F was the best place for him. Has HOF mentors, wont have a whole lot of pressure and will be worked into the starter role by taking snaps in certain packages. Hes already better than M.Lewis. He just needs to learn the defense.

  • if ronnie lott is able to mentor mays then mays will become a great football player i have much confidence in him

  • Of course nobody "knows" how Mays will do in the NFL. But he has a ton to overcome and improve on, he demonstrated he has an extremely difficult time covering the great receivers, ones that are standard fare in the NFL. He is fast, but he doesn't wrap up either....so we'll see....

  • Patrick Willis and Taylor Mays on the same defense.....thats alot of speed.

  • well when you have malauga, mathews, cushing, as your lb core you would be a very confident safety. Mays had little talent with him his senior year selfish Carroll wanted him back, because he didn't have anyone on d. With willis, spikes, lawson, and brooks, he's gonna be a stud.

  • well coaches tend to build a player around thier strengths not their weakness. We will see how well he will do.

  • Wow, the USC defense really liked to leave TM out to dry. That being said, I also saw plenty of poor tackling and bad coverage. The 49ers use their safeties much different and hopefully this should make him better. In the meantime I'm looking for Mays to be a special teams wrecking ball.

  • Taylor Mays is going to be a horrible player in the NFL. Especially since he went to that shit hole in San Fran. Fuck the 9ers!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Willis,BROOKS,MAYS,GHOLDSON,CLEMENTS=GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!EVERYBODY IN DRAFT NEEDS WORK SO ALL U HATERS EAT DICK.....49ERS4LIFE

  • @krme2053 0-4 kid

  • GO 49ERS!!!

  • Taylor Mays has all the tools to be great. He is too aggressive and goes for the big hit too much. Just needs to do like Madden, up his AWARENESS, and play the ball more than the receivers. Mike will coach'em up and im sure he will be a great player.

  • @lwdboss198308 mays plays to high that's why he misses tackles in the open field overall he gets a 7 he has alotta work to do. He is a boatload of talent though

  • I hope they move him to linebacker cause that's the only real shot he has at being any good on the pro level.

  • patiences

  • everything he lacks, mainly( patients):a bit 2 agrresive, he will learn through the discipline and guidiance of coach Singletary. but he has it like i said before he is a football player. you need people like that to win championships.

  • @wxdom

  • he is a bigger faster version of adrian wilson who by the way recieved the same kind of criticism that mays is recieving now. 49ers got a steal

  • this guy will surprise alot of people never should have went as low as he did //pro bowler //like maualuga and i said the same thing about Ray and people laughed at me//Mays is a football player

  • @wxdom i know, he improved all of his stats from last year and his film is amazing, everyone just likes to point out the negatives

  • he would prolly make a great linebacker

  • @Choppaaah yea but 49ers want to keep him at safety so only way he ever be a linebacker if the 49ers dont keep him but till then he a safety

  • I dont give a damn if he lacks coverage skills. Once Taylor Mays lands some hits on receivers no one is gonna want the ball thrown to them if Mays is anywhere near them. We got Willis and Mays now knockin people out. Teams will fear this defense! Go Niners!

  • :26

How the hell do you miss that tackle?

  • A good athlete. But that's all. Apparently lacks football instincts. Don't think a good pick for Niners.

  • I know for a fact that someone on the 49ers staff can help him become better at coverage and his play making abilities. Maybe Ronnie Lott could help him get better if he gets that help then he wont be criticized anymore.

  • @flyingmules911 I think Taylor Mays will most likely play strong safety and Goldson will play free safety. He is bigger and faster version of Michael Lewis. He got all the tools to become one of the best safety. With proper coaching, he may end up being the best safety in this draft. I would not be surprised if he starts this season.

  • @montkv exactly what i was thinking he is gonna have to play SS he will become better in coverage but he wont be a FS especially since Dashon Goldson showed how good he can be and is a quality starter and a playmaker

  • Taylor mays & Patrick willis = PAIN!

  • He has an outstanding frame and this beast can hit, but his covering skills are eh...they concern me, but i'm sure pro coaching will help his technique. Welcome to the niners :D

  • Ya gotta give a little to take a little. Let's see if Coach Sing and CO. can whip this fella in to NFL ready shape!! I gots FAITH!!! GO NINERS!!!!

  • Shut up and stop hating ! He will eb a beast in the Niners secondary! Play making ... watch him !!

    Go Niners !!!

  • Niners!!

  • Welcome to the 49ers.

  • he has to be pissed he wasn't drafted in the 1st round

  • Eagles, draft him please.

  • He Needs To Learn To Wrap Up And Stop Just Trying To Go For The Big Hit He Would Rather Try To Knock Out The Reciever After He Catches The Ball When Sometimes He Needs To Just Knock The Ball Down....He Might Go 3rd Round Or Maybe Late 2nd Houston Might Get Him They Need A Free Safety

  • Its funny to read some of the comments and see how wrong all of you were. Taylor has been caught taking poor angles but he shouldnt be playing in a single high safety position anyways. As far as wrapping up you can coach that you cant coach speed and size.

  • Cant believe he didnt go first round but wherever he goes he'll be a steal in the second round

  • Wow Mays has terrible coverage skills and a very bad tackler and that may be because he is always out of position. They will eat him alive in the NFL at safety,

  • i see jerry angelo from the bears trading up and picking this beast up. we need a good saftey

  • Ravens #25,but hopefully Earl Thomas somehow slips.

  • his coverage skills are terrible, never seen him make a legit form tackle. he always go's for the big hit, misses way to many tackles. it doesnt matter if you knock a guy out, if he hold onto the ball for a 20 yard play, who gives a shit how hard he hits. his instincts suck. eric berry and earl thomas are by far the elite safetys in the draft. i think berry would look good in a browns uniform

  • @prksafety6 i was thinking the same thing he only goes for the big hit now imagine in the nfl the rbs are much bigger and stronger than these college guys he wont get pro players down that easily but hes a beast in college tho nd yea hes not a coverage guy he just want s to knock some heads off

  • he may have to switch to olb

    very good athlete though

  • he needs to get better at his coverage than he would be a better player

  • christ, how fucking hard is it to put a circle around the guy prior to the start of the play? the video quality is already shitty enough that i can barely read the player's numbers, yet these are the only (and quote-unquote best) highlights that don't utilize this simple identification tool.

  • he has the size for nfl unlike berry and thomas but not the mechanics they have....

  • taylor mays is horrible

  • 3:31 golden tate is a beasssssssssst 3:49

  • No ball skills even worst at the tackling neva seen him wrap up . imagine try lay those weak hits on ap and getting ran ova.

  • to bad he is a terrible tackler. If he would stop lowering his shoulder and wrap up he would have easily had 20 or so more tackles.

  • please dont draft this guy cowboys!!! lol

  • Underrated. This showed the worst game he has ever had, and he still looked pretty good in my opinion. Always in the right position, and great in run support from that single high safety position. Great athlete as well.

  • I juss don't know bout this dude.

  • wow i thought taylor mays wuz gud but now that i c this i betting hes a bust

  • @CampinCarl80 what are you talking about ?! mays in my opinion is the best s in the 2010 draft nd he's NO bust. you watch in the pros, hes gonna be something. its cause of all the cover 1 nd 3 defenses the dumbass usc coaches use...

  • wow, I cant believe how terrible his insticts are...he was out of position so many times, and he even seemed to badly lose track of receivers while he was in zone coverage. Amazing athlete, but I sure hope that my niners dont waste a first round pick on this future bust.

  • Mays could certainly improve aspects of his game but ball skills, instincts and awareness are attributes that come naturally and can't be learned.. I honestly think he'll be a bust but he could have a decent NFL career.

  • Seems like Tyrell Johnson's Twin.

  • HEE GOES 4 THE HIT.... HE NEEDS 2WRAP UP

  • i dont even need to watch this thing 2 give my thoughts on Mays. YES he is a freak of nature, but as many of you already know he is not a FS in the pros QB's and WR's would have a field day with him in the middle of the field. Im gona go out on a limb and say that Mays will be a Bob Sanders TYPE of player in the league( not saying that he is as good as Sanders). but a SS that is basically a roam the field type of guy and is pysical at the point of attack.

  • Taylor Mays will have to become a WLB or a SS in the nfl. He cannot play FS. He's an athlete but not a great football player by any stretch of the imagination. He doesn't have the instincts needed for FS and thats something he can never learn. He's gonna have to be in the box.

  • @bigsteelmike89 Please let the OLB thing go; all the teams he interviewed at the combine never spoke to him once about switching to LB period. It's not happening.

  • @bigsteelmike89 you are stupid the reason why draft anaylst were bashing him was because on film it looks like he has bad hips and cant change direction that well

  • @bevans52 He does have bad hips. He doesn't have the Football instincts to play FS. Probably a SS but he'll always have trouble matching up against TE's and RB's. He doesn't wrap up well when he tackles. He does have bad hips and he struggles in pass defense drills.

  • @bigsteelmike89 well guess nobody gives a flying shit wat he plays all i no is he is not playing linebacker and he is going to make a huge impact any safty position he plays whether FS or SS

  • @CawChampionshipWE Yeah He'll probably make an impact. very possibly a negative impact. niner's might have hurt themselves by taking them to help out in the secondary.

  • @bigsteelmike89 how u gne say wat a player cant do stfu nigga

  • @itsyoboydj Wow that was a pretty impressive and very well put statement. I hope i can recover from that.

  • he is great he's not really bad at covering just probably just depends on raw ability more than his techniques. he's gonna be probably one of the most feared cuz now all he can do is practice on his tackling, cover skills etc. remember most college athletes don't work on their fundamentals that much cuz of school and NCAA rules that only gives coaches a certain amount of time to prepare

  • This seems like there is more lowlights than highlights. Mays needs to play SS, near the box. Hes not a FS, he doesnt posses the balls skills, often takes bad angles, and hes not a guy that will save a lot of tackles. Put him near the box where he can attack down hill to use his great athletic gifts to the best of his ability. Adrian Wilson is a great comparison. The further he gets away from the line of scrimmage the worst he will play.

  • he's jsut like Adrian Wilson, but he is not a good deep pass defender and needs to play more "downhill" but it will be fun to see him lay-out runningbacks out of the flats in the NFL

  • I dont know what half of your are thinking, taylor mays is a SS in the pros, thats alot less ground to cover than his "center field" role at usc, making him alot less vulnerable to giving up big pass plays like the wiff he has on the third play of this video, the kid is a freak thats for sure... The sean taylor comparisons need to stop though, he's half the player taylor was.

  • nah he's going to the 49ers.... RAiders is juz weak...

  • Mays has no business playing safety in the NFL, linebacker maybe, please Al davis dont take this guy!!

  • People need to stop comparing him to Sean Taylor. Yeah hes bigger and faster than Sean. But hes still not close to being the football player Sean was. Sean HIT and made plays on the ball. Taylor was a football player. Mays is an athlete. there is a difference

  • i agree, but i think he can learn to become a better football player, and if he does. watch out

  • you right. thats true

  • @pantherJG3 Question, which is better? Oh and would it be wise for the Dolphins to go for him in the draft? They need a WR and Bill might go for an outside LB (ex. Lawrence Taylor and such).

  • @pantherJG3 I dont think that ppl are saying he was the player that sean was. Everyone is saying he's the close thing we'll be getting to sean taylor anytime soon. Believe me every elite safety KNOWS how to make plays on the ball, and he is an elite safety.

  • @pantherJG3 Mays is a Football player who happens to be very athletic nobody care if he is not like sean taylor Cuz he is gonna make his own impact in the nfl

  • @pantherJG3 Don't compare yet wait until he gets to the same level

  • @crankdayank i got you man. i like taylor mays too. he just needs time but i think hes gonna a good safety

  • out of the 3 taylor is bigger, faster, stronger, and had more tackles also he is more aggressive and u need tht mind set in the nfl and u can learn to cover better thts y they have something called training camp so u can work on stuff like tht and he'll be better than the other two because u can use him in a lot of different schemes too and a lot of coaches like tht in a player

  • This guy has a good shot at being a Raider.... I won't look forward to it much

  • I think Taylor mays should play WR... :)

  • Ravens should draft Taylor Mays.

  • No they shouldn't.

  • People think he's should have been a playmaker but when was he ever in position to make a play?

In the Senior Bowl, he played in a regular defense of Cover-3 or Cover-2 and he made a pick through pure instincts in the game. The guy will do well outside of USC's bullshit Cover-1 system. Cover-1 is not for playmaking unless you're Ed Reed and you can allow one of your corners to get beat deep if you think the QB is throwing it to a deep in route underneath. Mays couldn't do that at USC.

  • LOL! Mays played center-field his entire career at USC. That's the perfect position to make plays. This video alone shows him failing to make plays.

The scheme had little to do with it. Mays is stiff in coverage, has no ball skills or instincts.

  • @Ginga ...and Eric Berry is not in the least bit like Ed Reed in the return game. His very first pick in college, he ran in a straight line to the endzone and the only person he had to beat was Tim Tebow and he barely beat him. Berry gets way to much credit for his "return abilities", he only gets to the endzone or gets any yardage whatsoever when there's broad daylight in front of him. Half the time, he runs into his own damn players.

  • LOL! You're grasping at straws. Berry was 7 yards shy of breaking the NCAA's record for INT return yardage and he isn't good with the ball in his hands? Just stop it. Also, what do you mean he "barely" Tebow? He made a great cutback and left Tebow in the dust. And that's just one example him getting big INT return yardage. His fumble return against UGA in '09, INT returns against Miss State, UGA & SCar in '08 prove he's SPECIAL and very Reed-like with the ball in his hands.

  • There is nothing that Mays will ever be able to do that will change people's minds about him.

If you look at all 5 of the interceptions Berry got in his freshman season, EVERY SINGLE ONE of them were from horrible throws but people look at the numbers and the easy interception yards that he got and they think he's Ed Reed.

People only pay attention to numbers because they are more abundant/more publicized and understable than actual analysis. He'll have to win DROY to shut everybody up.

  • @MrDuke32 men lie women lie Numbers don't don't

  • Yeah you obviously don't know shit.

  • @MrDuke32 I know that you are a fucking dumb ass who think's taylor mays has cover skills

  • I'll be looking for you when Mays proves you and a lot of other people wrong... and you better reply, bitch!

  • @MrDuke32 don't play Internet tuff guy role with me you fucking fag

  • Yes, the interceptions Berry had his freshman all came off poor throws. However, can you really say that about the other 9 he had during his career? And what about what Berry did with his interceptions after snagging them? There are certain players that are always around the ball and Berry was such a player during his time at Tennessee. You can't say the same about Mays. That's why people compare Berry to Reed; their playmaking abilities are similar.

  • this is why i will put him at safety because he is a man back there, with a little at covering he is the truth. the man is a beast. you can trust him.then he is fast , he can make up ground for that.

  • Taylor Mays will be a better pro than a college player. In my opinion USCs defense is stupid if u watch this look at how much single high safety they asked taylor mays to play. There is no way to disguise coverage with a single high safety its either cover 1 or 3. Any safety would have gotten beat as much as Mays did in this defense.

  • @ababybaby thats exactly what i was thinkin after watchin this. USC took advantage of his speed and stuck more people in the box to stop the run. n people wonder why his numbers fell off after losin 3 NFL linebackers now he was forced to cover the whole field by himself

  • @ababybaby

regardless of the coverage, mays is too stupid to read plays quickly enough. he's just another in a long line of overrated USC players drafted way too soon. he can't cover and if he can't knock the player out he's actually a bad tackler. reminds me of another overhyped college S named roy williams.

  • @gls777a Roy Williams? The Cowboys safety who went to five Pro Bowls, led his team in tackles two years and was considered the best run-suport safety in the leauge? Sure he peaked pretty quickly but to say that he was over hyped is to go a little far. Mays, just like Williams, has the ability to flourish in the NFL, if the 49ers fits their Defense around him. Williams was cut by the cowboys because the Cowboys switched up their defense. But before they did that, Williams was awsome!

  • @ababybaby Your post shows a basic unfamiliarity with the USC defense, calling it "stupid?" What are you, 10-years-old? This is the same basic defense with the same basic responsibilities as the past. Offenses wised up to Mays, and recognized you can catch him out of position fairly easily, because he goes for the hit first, ball second....

  • @ababybaby

I have to agree with that...to an extent. Taylor Mays did have it pretty difficult when under constant man coverage Cover 1 schemes. The problem is though, his weakness at covering receivers was horribly exposed during the one-on-one drills of the Senior bowl. I thought maybe he would show some of his actual coverage skills in those drills, but he got consistently burned. Thats not a big deal though, I'm sure Mike Singletary can coach that. His raw super skills can not be coached!

  • Boom Herron ran his ass over in the first clip 0:08..I aint a Buckeye Fan..but Im a Buckeye!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • lol, i think the raiders will draft him, they allways draft the physical freaks

  • true that they do always draft the freaks of nature. or who knows they may go after peppers in free agency.

  • hes like a heat seeking missil

  • okay Taylor Mays cant cover.he got away with that in college cuz in college he is a presense!u cant do that in the NFL.who ever drafts him might wanna switch him 2 OLB if they dont have confidence in him at S

  • He could start as a OLB for the Ravens.

    That'll be a good fit.

  • Stop it with the OLB shit, nobody is going to make him a linbebacker.

  • Taylor Mays would excell at either position for the Ravens, Sfety or OLB, it wouldn't matter but i'd rather have him at S since I don't think Ed is coming back.

And Chris Carr is terrible so he could start over him if Ed's back.

  • LOL! You actually think Mays can play corner in the NFL? He doesn't even look like he'll survive at FS(if any team puts him there). The Ravens draft football players, not athletes.

  • for all you people that are set on the Eagles drafting him look around. I like Mays but i would feel better if the Eagles got Berry or Thomas because Mays doesnt make plays on the ball and doesnt rap up...Eric Berry hits hard but also goes for the ball......But i would still be happy with Mays because he would make more of a difference that Sean Jones did

  • wouldnt want him on my team unless he switched to linebacker

  • dallas cowboys

  • hes goin to the Seattle!...thats the obvious choice;being that Coach Carroll is there

  • in most mock draft i seen the eagles picking him up. i think he's a good player hard hitter but lacks coverage skills and is not always a sure tackler. overall he should be a late 1st rounder (if a team needa a runstopping safety)but besides that he's a great 2nd round pick

  • he looks like a adrian wilson cowboys gon get him

  • I don't think he's worth a first round pick, to be honest.

  • I would love the Eagles to take Taylor Mays only if Brandon Spikes ,Earl Thomas, and Brandon Graham are already off board.

  • @jarell313...He consistantly ran a 4.25 on the 40

  • he runs a 4.39 40

  • B-Dawk but taller, heavier, n faster

  • @spangy88

but he is missing the biggest attribute, he needs better instincts and learn how to not overrun an angle..

  • @Flwayne91....Yeah i agree with you i looked at Earl Thomas and Eric Berry and saw that Mays needs work......But still he would stop the run against dallas. i would feel a lot better about drafting Berry

  • Reminds me of Brian Dawkins with the hitting. He still shows some coverage skills even though thats what every one complains about. He can work on that anyways. The Eagles need somone like this again. They need somone physical n hes only gonna improve

  • Man...I hope Philly don't grab this guy, Coverage skills look like they need some WORK!! They dude can hit no doubt, but pass coverage was 1 of Philadelphia's weakness this year...They DON'T need another Liabilty!!!

  • that can easily be fixed so stop being worried

  • Easily Fixed? Was it easily fixed with Roy Williams? Cuz Mays is the exact same type of player, A BIG Hitter, good against the run. But LACKS any Coverage Skills...He has not improved on any his weaknesses since his Soph. Yr. so what says he will in the NFL? Philly needs an IMMEDIATE Impact Player, not a developmental prospect. They can't wait for his coverage skills to develop. Especially when theres better ball hawks and more Complete Safeties in this draft.

  • Eagles r gonna pick him 24th in the draft

  • I hope so we need another hard hitter

  • I been saying since last year that this guy is bum ppl looked at me like I was a hater . but now yall know the tru fact's

  • oh god i hope the niners dont pick this dude up

  • Wow! can the guy make a play on the ball when its in the air? teams must love to throw at him. Jerry reese better not draft this guy, he'll turn out to be C.C Brown II (but, 100x more athletic LOL!).

tho, reese has a history of loving althetic players regardless of their instincts and technique(michael boley, william beatty)

  • mays spends to much time in the gym and not studying technique.

  • hes strong, fast, talented. but he either a miracle to play safety, or simply switch to LB

  • Hes good very good but people get carried away with his size and wieght to much. Hes a lil over rated

  • His Coverage Sucks, I hope the seahawks don't use there 14th pick on him.

  • Well as of right now...he should be a line backer...face it all he wants to do is hit...he has terrible ball skills...the golden tate touchdown he didnt look at the ball once...if thats eric berry thats an interception...he takes terrible angles to the football

  • He is the prototype of the safety possition, 6-3 230 pounds, ran a eletric time of 4.25, and bench presses 225 30+ times. With a jug machine he can fix his hands and with the proper coaching he can become better with his ball skills. When his carear is over he will become a hall of famer!

  • @Brantly1987 he don't run a 4'25 that's false

  • @jarell313 mays has run an electronicaly timed 4.2 40. think it was his jr year at sc....he didnt do it at the nfl combine, but still the fastest of all the dbs and thats amazing cuz hes the biggest and strongest also

  • mays problems can be fixed with coaching...if he can take in an NFL coach's advice he can be good....hes already a good run defender but once he develops coverage and ball skills.....Ronnie lott?

  • Id like to have him as a teammate...I think he'd be good along side like a Ed Reed or sme body like that

  • Rex ryan can find a spot for this guy
