It's such a great video :). I wish i could travel around the world to visit new places. I love meeting people from different cultures. I've been to Australia before and it was the best year of my life.
I think it's always interesting to hear what other people think of the country you live in. For example, I never noticed how often you have to pay for public bathrooms. But now, that I think about it, you are right.

But as a german i have to say, i can't agree to most of your opinions completely. Every opinion is subjective...anyplace, anytime. For example,i am a very fun loving guy who isn't shy or ashamed to let my (sometymes really crazy/ freaky) side out in public to have fun with my friends or even strangers. 0:40 wrong (beside the serious part) 1:00 wrong. Most are free. And you can just ask in any Restaurant if you can use a bathroom, you don't have to buy smth. @GodofChookie That is one thing that seems to be changing, the paying for the toilet or "lady sitting there that cleans the toilet so you give her some coins" thing.
I just remember in the 4 years i spent in germany and the numerous trips (i have lived or at least visited germany every year since 1996) there were always people waiting for coins when you left the restroom... no i guess it is not REQUIRED to pay, but as its their job i figure i should give them some money.

@manekimaki check out our German for Kids video... he is in full force there too :) and visit five things to love and hate about vicenza, italy... and you will like "five things you will love and hate about germany" and he steals the camera :)
My father was a German (now American)Obviously my family is German. I agree with the people being distant, but in a sense that we are Americans. When with relatives, I go in for a hug, they tend to go in for a shake. Germans have their days-I have lived here for about 4 years, Simply saying "have a nice day" just isn't in their conversation, unless you really know them,Its "fake" otherwise. Americans can be nasty too. Learn some German! Don't we expect foreigners to speak English in the States?
@MrPriSix You are right. The toilets on trains are free and the toilets in restaurants are free. Personally, I would rather pay for a clean bathroom than have to use a dirty one. I am sorry that Americans weren't always friendly and helpful to you. Some of us are very helpful, I promise! I am sure that you speak some English if you spent time in America, aber ich kann in deutsch schreiben...ist das besser?
1. The first thing you would hate are the people. Worst beginning ever AND you get a thumbs up for that^^
2. Germans are "organized". Okay.. Also not a good start^^
3. Your son doesn't seem to like germany.
4. And we are good people ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW US!! WTF? :D
At least you are honest ^^
btw just without judging, I heard the same (reserved, distant) about americans from a german who lived there for some time. Maybe thats a bit a national barrier or language barrier thing. just an idea.
.. well.. you point out the "HATE" things really clearly.. we got it I guess... :D
I have to say that I agree with you about the toilets - I loved that I didn't have to pay for public toilets!! :)
But I think US people are often more superficial than Germans / Europeans... like I experienced it.
You make a lot of american "friends" but you probably never hear anything back from them once you move back to your home country. They forget pretty quickly about you. Different to Germany...
@suckl Hmmm.... I guess living in Germany for 3 years, spending at least a month in Germany from 1996 to 2010 really would mean I know absolutely nothing about being a tourist in Germany. You are completely correct. I am clueless on this matter. Thank you so much for clearing it up for me. ;)
@139ICH139 Glad to hear the toilet paying thing is becoming a thing of the past. and the beer thing... well I am happy for all the 16 year olds out there :)
nice little documentary I am German and i have lived 5 years in oz. you are right about a lot of things for sure. it also depends where you go. you will find out that people from the north are in general more friendly than down south. you are more than welcome. cheers
@fraggle26 you are right, it is different from town to town even. glad you commented and watched the video. hope you will join us by subscribing. hope life is treating you well in oz :)
Theres nothing wrong with being serious. I mean Americans are considered "overly-happy" to them so when they laugh with them about something usually they won't consider it funny. Every country has their own type of humor :P And no country deserves to be bombed at ALL >:0 All of these facts that happened so long ago are in the past, and will stay there. Most Germans are pacifists. It isnt their fault that these events took place years ago. They weren't even born yet.
@krissy100298 glad to hear it... except for those old ladies that sit at the door... they guilt me into giving them money.. its not obligatory but they jsut guilt you into it
@pikewerfer yeah, i should have started with the loves first and the people then the hates. it is a bit brunt, but i think it picked up after that. i've gotten a bit better in the newer love/hate videos. thanks for the heads up and thanks for watching adn commenting! hopeyou will subscribew!
If someone here is thinking about visiting Germany. Don't. It's a shit hole. I've lived all my life here (21 yrs). Germans are still nazis. Nothing has changed in 67 years!!
No clue, no brain and... sadly... no money to leave germany right? If you hate it, LEAVE.
To all the other people reading his coment: Just visit germany and find out yourself. If Germans are still Nazis as he sais, US citizens are "Nazis" too. You just call it "patriotism" nowadays ;)
To understand the phenomenon of the unfirendly germans: It's because of our native language. If we speak english, because of the german style to speak when we translate the german sentence we think of, to english it often can sound impolite.
I think the same works the other way around. If you speak german with someone from germany we may use words that sound impolite to you but in fact they aren't in germany ^^!
Germans are cheap? Well i am sure you mean HONEST. But i do understand you, buddy. It has to be hard if a goodlooking german Girl rejects you, just because you are a meaningless, boring and overweight American. But is that enough reason to judge a whole nation?
@LegioQuiaMultiSumus ;) Nice one... But having a wife who is super model sexy I really am not too upset that I only dated German girls for 4 years of my life... From Bremen, Berlin and chubby or skinny they were all wonderful ladies, good looking and very German :) I always love how amazingly lame the insults get on youtube. I mean overweight? come on. Fettsack waere besser. Oder Fettes dickes arschl0chchen... but overweight? if you want to "pune" or whatever its called at least be original
@LegioQuiaMultiSumus thanks for watching&commenting. I actually do appreciate it & the next time someone makes you a maggi dinner recipe remember what i said ;)
Hope you subscribe! check out some of my other videos... ain't so chubby in some of them :) then you can come up with some other "winners" :) all the best and keep traveling! even if you will meet meaningless, boring and overweight Americans that speak 6 languages, lived in 9 countries and spent 13 years traveling around the world ;)
@LegioQuiaMultiSumus : Wow, you sound like a baby, haha. Watch Walter other videos, especially about a country you've visited and he gives a fair taste of the good and bad. Don't get so offended man, lol.
@DieMenschMaschine85 Thanks for the support :) and I would be very sad if i came from a 24hour bar country to a mere 12hr bar country... I think I would cry... though my liver would probably be a bit healthier ;)
The "service" point: If you have a job here you don´t see yourself being a servant/slave for the client/customer. So we always act on eye-to-eye basis and this ensures dignity and self-confidence, which are key values of our social organized society. Just as an explaination, not as an excuse.
@ChimneyCharlie Glad you watched the whole video. I enjoy having people that have different opinions than mine commenting. It adds to the discussion. I have people that agree 100% and those that only agree 20% like you :)
Thanks for watching and commenting... over and over ;)
1. Claiming stuff that is just wrong information, e.g. Italy is cheaper than Germany. I don't know where you've been roaming around, but it certainly wasn't Italy.
2. Saying that Germans are cheap and unfriendly. Just look at the latest BBC rankings.
3. Complaining about stores not being open on sundays. Only Americans have to run to the supermarkets every 24 hours to get stuff they don't need, not thinking about the employees, who perhaps also would like to spend the sunday with their families.
@ChimneyCharlie I guess German babies don't have blow outs on sundays... and the people working in restaurants and on transport lines and police and other services don't count as real people to you?
@chimney: you may not like it, but we accept this sunday/holidays restrictions here as part of our culture. you have to arrange your supplies from mon-sat. and transportation and police service is also limited on sundays/public holidays. People working on these days get 150% of their normal daily wages. We dont have a hire-fire-policy here, so many people work their lifetime well paid with one employer. we like the idea of tradition and stability.
@ChimneyCharlie Germans also have control over the weather. They're amazing! You can't wake up on a Sunday, discover good weather, and spontaneously organise a barbeque! Won't work. You can't go food shopping for it, you have to have all items on hand in your tiny refrigerator.
Everywhere else in the world has Sunday shopping, not only in America.
@ChimneyCharlie : Why are you getting so offended. This is his opinion of travelling to another country through his eyes. I he came to Ireland and complained that the bars close too early, I'd think, yes, they might or might not do. That's not for me to be offended over. It's just the way it is. He might come from a land of 24hr bars :P No need to be so defensive and offended because of cultural differences. Fucks sake haha
4. The service is bad? Yeah? Well, people all over the world tend to become a bit upset once they get adressed in English right away in their own country, without even being asked: "Excuse me, do you speak English?"
5. Spreading this stuff virally over the internet.
@derast German supermarkets are the cheapest in America. People line up to go to Aldi here. Because it is soooooo damn cheap. And I am always impressed with Aldi or Lidl private label brands. Dirt cheap but taste pretty good. Thanks for watching and commetning! All the best!
@shiloh1213 Yeah, he enjoys doing that :) now that he is a whole 5 years old he likes to help more than steal the camera :) he comes in saying "tell them about eating horse" or "tell them about the coliseum" it is pretty funny. thanks for watching and commenting!
@fkkstrandwixer Yep, but somehow i have a supermodel wife so i guess i will be able to live with my fat self just fine :) check out some of the learn german videos or learn italian videos... not so fat there my friend ;) just too much schweinhaxe while in germany ;) thanks for watching and commenting and finding my speckrolle lustig ;)
Since when is germany more expensive than france or Italy? At least as long as you are a tourist you can stay in germany for half a month and be quite comfy with the money you would need just to survive for one week in paris.
I'm fom Bonn. I stumbled upon this vid serching the comments about the german-american relationship. You' are right about the Rhineland Karneval beeing very similar to Mardi Gras. That is because both have french origins. I have a friend living in New Orleans who sent me this delicious original Luisiana extra hot sauce for chrismas. If you come here for Karneval this year bring some warm clothes 'cause there'll be temperatures of -1° to -6° F. But alcohol warms the stomach.
@binaryf00l Yes indeed it does... I remember the last time in Karneval and the alcohol did quite a bit :) and i burned the pictures to not have proof :)
ah and a little hint: gas stations are open at Sundays if you need anything really bad, of course it's more expensive but better than nothing, they've normally got a small range of groceries...even Germans arent't perfect at planning ;)
paying for a toilet is really fucked up...i'm always searching for another opportunity^^ about the opening hours...as an employee at a supermarket I'm happy I don't have to work on Sundays. I always say if people are too dumb (sry^^) to manage to buy their things on Saturday, why should they be able to buy it on Sunday? You just have to plan more carefully ;) German mind working ;)^^ nice video, hope you enjoyed your stay :)
greetings from the lake of constance (nice area btw)
Nice vid but with one point, I disagree: The German Service is not that bad - it's often just very pragmatic (don't know, if it's the right word).
Do you want to know, where I experienced the worst Service I've ever seen?
NYC! I visited NYC for three times during the last three years and everytime I was very upset about the Service.
Most time, many people are very, very, very, very unfriendly and often they're talking like robots to you: "hellosirpleasegothere/dothatthankyousir,NEXT!"
@jamalmjf i kinda get the expression the german waiters aren't being unfriendly maybe they're just nervous....good example i learned english since i was 3 years old and i'm pretty confident in my capability of speaking it but once i have to talk with a native speaker i get sooo conscious of my pronounciation i try to cut the conversation as short as possible so maybe they think if they talked more you could hear their german accent
which all germans are REALLY counscious about REAAAALLY!^^,
It's always bad to stereotype people. I think you are a typical ugly American! How many Germans come to the US and ask for a German menu at a restaurant? In the States, good luck tryng to find a clean toilet somewhere for free. Don't mind paying a few pfennig for some place that I won't get crabs. Get some perspective dude!!!
@atukazhit I am a typical ugly American. I speak six languages, have lived around the world for the past 13 years, I respect all races and creeds, I allow people to post compliments as well as horrible threats on my youtube channel, I try to help travelers prepare for their journeys, learn more about different cultures and help them have an experience instead of just a holiday. If that is what an ugly American is than I hope i am the ugliest American there is.
@BritaniaANDPrussia It is a good place to go. if you make some german friends they will take you under their wing and show you all the country has to offer. it may take a little bit of time but young germans are really outgoing (more so than their older like me counterparts)and the society and culture is changing so it is a great time to go. i hope you will go. i have some learning german videos on here too that may help you. good luck and have a great time! i loved living in germany.
@woltersworld Quick question - Does Germany allow dual citizenship? In other words, can I be a citizen of the United States and Germany simultaneously?
@EvilWeevil7 I am glad that has changed because the 3 years i lived in germany you had to pay, ok there was a lady there with a plate and it certainly seemed like you had to pay. did all those ladies at kaufhof, mcdonalds and all the bars and clubs disappear? if so that is great.
actually there is even a law in Germany, that if you really have to go to the toilet and have no money, a public place (like restaurant, etc.) is obliged to let you go
Even if someone rings at your front-door you have to let him pee (unless you are scared to let a stranger in, that's a seperate law)
Same thing for a glass of water
The money you give to the toilet-lady is tip for the clean toilets and they let it look like you have to pay
@Ecstasia1 Your English is great. And thank you so much for the information. I had no idea. That is pretty cool to know. Thanks for commenting and watching! and for the great comment!
@woltersworld i dont know how the situation is like near bonn - never been there, but i never made such an experience here in the southern parts of germany.
@EvilWeevil7 this is something i will be checking out my next trip to germany this summer because i used to have to pay everywhere i went and now it seems like it is less common judging on the comments. thanks for the heads up. and thank you for commentingand watching! please sub
agree on the toilet thing, but compared to northern Europe it's really cheap to buy stuff.

I am sure that you speak some English if you spent time in America, aber ich kann in deutsch schreiben...ist das besser?
runr100 1 week ago 3
MrPriSix 1 week ago

You make a lot of american "friends" but you probably never hear anything back from them once you move back to your home country. They forget pretty quickly about you. Different to Germany...

The "service" point: If you have a job here you don´t see yourself being a servant/slave for the client/customer. So we always act on eye-to-eye basis and this ensures dignity and self-confidence, which are key values of our social organized society. Just as an explaination, not as an excuse.

Five things I hate about your video:
1. Claiming stuff that is just wrong information, e.g. Italy is cheaper than Germany. I don't know where you've been roaming around, but it certainly wasn't Italy.
ChimneyCharlie 3 weeks ago
@ChimneyCharlie let's look at wage rate comparisons by country... I think that would clear up part of the disparity.
woltersworld 3 weeks ago
ChimneyCharlie 3 weeks ago
@ChimneyCharlie I guess German babies don't have blow outs on sundays... and the people working in restaurants and on transport lines and police and other services don't count as real people to you?
woltersworld 3 weeks ago
@chimney: you may not like it, but we accept this sunday/holidays restrictions here as part of our culture. you have to arrange your supplies from mon-sat. and transportation and police service is also limited on sundays/public holidays. People working on these days get 150% of their normal daily wages. We dont have a hire-fire-policy here, so many people work their lifetime well paid with one employer. we like the idea of tradition and stability.
cyreander 3 weeks ago
@cyreander : Sounds great.
DieMenschMaschine85 3 weeks ago
@ChimneyCharlie Germans also have control over the weather. They're amazing! You can't wake up on a Sunday, discover good weather, and spontaneously organise a barbeque! Won't work. You can't go food shopping for it, you have to have all items on hand in your tiny refrigerator.
Everywhere else in the world has Sunday shopping, not only in America.
bumpy783 3 weeks ago
@ChimneyCharlie : Why are you getting so offended. This is his opinion of travelling to another country through his eyes. I he came to Ireland and complained that the bars close too early, I'd think, yes, they might or might not do. That's not for me to be offended over. It's just the way it is. He might come from a land of 24hr bars :P No need to be so defensive and offended because of cultural differences. Fucks sake haha
DieMenschMaschine85 3 weeks ago
@DieMenschMaschine85 : We dont feel offended. We respond to an argument. This is our culture. We respect his opinion, but we do not hide ours.
cyreander 3 weeks ago
This has been flagged as spam show
4. The service is bad? Yeah? Well, people all over the world tend to become a bit upset once they get adressed in English right away in their own country, without even being asked: "Excuse me, do you speak English?"
5. Spreading this stuff virally over the internet.
Toilet thing is true though. Annoys me also.

You just have to plan more carefully ;) German mind working ;)^^ nice video, hope you enjoyed your stay :)

Most time, many people are very, very, very, very unfriendly and often they're talking like robots to you: "hellosirpleasegothere/dothatthankyousir,NEXT!"
jamalmjf 1 month ago 2

Get some perspective dude!!!

woltersworld 1 month ago
@woltersworld
actually there is even a law in Germany, that if you really have to go to the toilet and have no money, a public place (like restaurant, etc.) is obliged to let you go
Even if someone rings at your front-door you have to let him pee (unless you are scared to let a stranger in, that's a seperate law)
Same thing for a glass of water
The money you give to the toilet-lady is tip for the clean toilets and they let it look like you have to pay
(sry for my english ^^)
