Egad! I've been a fan of the Magic Captain for more years now than I'd care to remember and it's only now, when I see the snake footage, that I realize that THAT is what this song is all about; snakes... most particularly certain species of rattlesnakes with a very 'zig-zag' form of locomotion: these are Van Vliet's zig-zag wanderers!

Far out! He actually does make sense... eventually! (Not that it matters, of course! Makers of music don't have to make sense!)

I love Beefheart's music for all it's weirdness and insanity (Trout Mask, Decals etc), but at the end of the day you can't beat fantastic, down-to-earth blues rock like this.

Safe as Milk is the greatest album ever made, therefore this is one of the best songs ever made.
